Hi, I'm Louis and I've dealt with my weight pretty much all of my life. I was diagnosed with diabetes in my late 20's. My heaviest was 425lb and I was able to loose some before MFP. Now I'm feeling great. I also have a 2yr old son and another son due anyday now. Recently my doctor took me off of my meds and I just monitor…

there's 2 types of diabetes, type 1 and 2. T1 is juvenile diabetes, kids are born with it and some are diagnosed as young as 2 yrs old. Those people have to manage it for a lifetime. T2 is what is called adult onset. It can be managed and controlled with diet, meds and exercise. For T2 people, checking blood sugar is a…

I do use a food scale at home. I measure most of my food. I even measure liquids like milk and juices. My scale has both fluid ounces and ounces and I haven't seen a difference in the two. I also measure foods in grams. For me, portion control was the biggest factor I had to overcome. And when I go out to eat, I don't…

this is just a crime against nature LOL I was in Portland OR back in '96 and went to a brew pub. I had pizza and beer and when I got the pizza there was no sauce at all. First I thought that I was drunk and seeing things, then I thought that maybe the cook was drunk and forgot the sauce and then I thought maybe they don't…

Honestly, I got tired of the runaround I was getting with my insurance, when it comes to strips and meters. As of this year the rules changed it became a hassle to get my strip scripts filled. And now that I am no longer diagnosed as diabetic, the insurance sees no need to cover any of the supplies. I use FSA account to…

I don't remember my number off hand but I did have high cholestrol/triglyceride and took meds for it. I increased my fiber intake and took l-carnitine, too. For me, it was that plus a combo of eating less, eating better and using my treadmill that also helped me get off of the meds. I also took metformin but now I don't.…

I want to get a heart rate monitor/calorie monitor but I have no idea where to start. I want something that I can wear that also has a watch in it. I've been researching them online and I am lost. I have a nordictrack treadmill that is ifit ready but I'm not sure about that, either. I have an android phone but I'm not very…

I have been using the CVS brand True Track meter. I bought it for $15 and there was a $15 rebate with it so it was free. And the strips are .56 each when you buy the 100 count. I also was able to buy strips on Amazon and they were a little cheaper. I'm sure there are better deals out there but happy with this one. I had a…

I participated in competitions in school on clarinet and I earned my high school letterjacket in choir. I sang tenor. I gigged in garage bands in my teens and 20's playing…

I've never heard of NSV's. But after reading what everyone has posted, I realize I have a few victories, too. Clothing is the biggest one. Being able to shop at regular stores and not the big and tall places is a plus. I started at 60in waist and now I'm at 48in. My friends have always called me Big Lou but now when they…

Hi everyone, I'm Louis, I'm 39 and working on losing the weight I've collected since I was a child. When I was 20, my doctor told me if I did not change my ways I would be diabetic by the time I was 28. I did not heed the advice and by the time I was 26, I was diagnosed. I ate what I wanted, drank sodas and alcohol. I…
