I don't have PCOS, but my a good friend of mine does and since I'm a medical researcher she has asked me to read through the actual literature for her. If you have PCOS with insulin resistance, which you do, your diet should be very similar to a diabetics. Do you have a glucometer or way to test your blood sugar? Some…

Beans, lentils, most whole grains, and eggs are cheap. These make up most of my diet everyday along with lots of fresh herbs, fruits, and veggies. ;) I also cook beans from dried. My favorite way is to do a quick soak. Bring to a low boil for about a half hour, drain, then add to a crockpot with lots of water to cover and…

It seems to be mostly women responding on this thread. I'm a woman too, but I've always been fascinated by this issue. Try doing a google search for 'wife gaining weight' to start out. I think the book 'his needs her needs' is another great read. To put it bluntly men want a hot wife. What that means is different to every…

I went back to work full time when my daughter was 6 weeks as well. We did nanny care until she was 6 months, and then started her in daycare. It sucked then, and it sucks now. To be honest I hate working full time. I know some people are happy about it, but I don't feel like its a good balance. I have a full time job at…

An omelette is my usual go to quick food. You can add some veggies and herbs to make it especially tasty. Sautee a bit of onion or scallions with spinach and red bell peppers in a tad of butter or olive oil. Add some chopped dill and/or parsley. Make a southwest omelette with beans, corn, tomatoes, salsa, fresh cilantro.…

Hi therer! I'm 27 years old with a 3 year old daughter and a 22 week bean. I had about 20lbs I wanted to lose before this pregnancy, and at 22 weeks I've gained right around 10lbs. I'm hoping to stick to a 25lb weight gain, but we will see!

Yummy. I love rice dishes. ;) I would definetely add some fresh cilantro to this, and/or fresh salsa or pico de gallo. Probably beans too cuz I'm crazy like that. If anyone is looking for other rice/vegetable dishes I love kabsa. Its an arabic rice dish made with meat.…

Thanks! I am going to get a second opinion. I'll go to the doctor I went to for my previous pregnancies just for my peace of mind.

I'm not a fan of juicing, too much waste, but I love smoothies. Lately I've been substituting a green smoothie with a pitcher of water for a meal when I feel like I've eaten too much. If you're doing a juice diet for a cleanse or weight loss I wouldn't bother. Use the search function to find a thread titled something like…

I definitely feel bad for those kids. In general I feel bad for any kids with extreme diets either because of food allergies or something their parents impose on them. She's right, the social isolation is the worst. Imagine those kids trying to go to a birthday party? Out for a play date at another kids house? I remember a…

Cutting out most unnecessary sugars. I still bake with sugar, maybe once a month, and eat ice cream, maybe once or twice a week, but on a day to day basis I don't add sugar to anything. I used to drink coffee or tea LOADED with sugars, and now I don't add anything except a bit of honey to my tea. Eating more fresh fruit. I…

Your list was pretty comprehensive, but I'd add lentils to it. If you can find a store with bulk bins, like a whole foods, things like bulgur, couscous, and quinoa can be good bets too. They are a bit more expensive than white rice or pasta, but have more bang for the nutrtional buck, so I consider them worth the price.

Maybe you should find a new doctor? I have no idea what you are going through, but I had a friend with back pain who did cortisone injections, and they really helped. My father had problems with his knees. He said it took about a year of strength training and swimming to get his muscles built back up. Since then he has…

You may lose some weight, but you'll probably go nuts once you go back to not fasting. +1 For everyone who says you don't need to fast. Lately I'm into substituting a green smoothie for a meal when I feel as if I've been eating too much, eating not too much but too much junk, or am feeling tired/stressed. Doing a mega…

I love to eat and watch TV on the weekends too. ;) The last week or so I've been doing a modified fasting a tad. Not big time because I'm pregnant, but for a meal I'll do a green smoothie and a ton of water for a meal. I did this two nights for dinner before the weekend. What about having grazing safe snacks? Lime with…

On the housekeeper bit try to find a teenager or poor college student to come and help. I did house cleaning as a teenager and in college in cash, so no taxes, for not much money. Also, do you have to be working that much? What is more important, your health and family time or money? I'm not suggesting you completely stop…

hahahaha Someone just try and take my morning coffee away from me! With that said I no longer put sugar in my coffee. Just a bit of lowfat milk, often whipped up so its nice and frothy. I used to drink my coffee with lots of cream and sugar, but it was a ton of calories and now I only do that on occasion.

Oh ya, and this pregnancy I'm being monitored for spotting and my placenta being too low at 20 weeks. I keep meaning to ask my doctor (different doctor) to check my cervix length, but forgot at my last appointment.
-
I'm not sure what the exact measurements were, but I was put on pelvic rest for a too short cervix at around 6-7 months. That kept my cervix from continuing to shorten. After a few weeks I was taken off of full pelvic rest and told to just take it easy. I wasn't working at the time and exhausted so that was easy enough to…

I like chicken marinated in yogurt with cajun spices. I also love, love, love grilled veggies. Thinly slice some potatoes, peppers, tomatoes, add some corn and fresh cilantro, toss in a bit of olive oil in a foil packet. When cooked add in a bit of yogurt to make a southwest style potato salad. Stab some holes in a whole…

Nobody is obligated to change their eating habits just because you are trying to change yours. Just remember, that no ones belief or lack there of can change your actions. If your friends doubt does it change whether or not you go back for that second helping of something that puts you over your calorie goals? Or whether…

I went for awhile where I was eating haagen daz pretty much every day. And baking peanut butter cookies and finishing them off with a gallon of milk. Not huge amounts, but enough that I gained about 10lbs in month and a half. The peanut butter cookies I justified by the fact I was completely broke and flour and sugar are…

I don't have this problem because I don't eat things I don't like. My brain doesn't say "where's the good stuff?" because I've already had the good stuff. If you don't want to eat a plate of carrots don't eat a plate of carrots. I haven't read all the comments, but I agree with those that said increase fat and protein, and…

I did a juice fast once for 10 days. The first 4 or 5 days was miserable. After that it wasn't so miserable, but I was constantly thinking about food. I didn't lose much weight, and the weight I did lose I gained right back when I went back to regular food. Mentally/emotionally I think it was good for me. It made me…

I had a (big) late loooong lunch yesterday with guests so ended up not hungry for dinner and just had a green smoothie. It was one of those meals with several courses that you sit down to for more than an hour. My lunch was good though. I don't have any pictures, but it was delicious. Lentil soup, salad with pomegranate…

I follow a low carbish lifestyle. Meaning I limit my refined carbs to make more room for fruits, veggies, and beans. I have a refined carb with probably 1 meal per day. Sometimes a girl just needs her pasta. ;) I do disagree a bit with the MFP calorie stance its all fine as long as its in your calories. If I ate too much…

The first trimester is all about survival. I ate mostly macaroni and cheese during mine. I'm not saying go nuts, but don't beat yourself up too much for not eating at optimum nutrition. I gained about 25lbs during my last pregnancy. I did a lot of walking. This one I am doing considerably less walking and I'm at 19 weeks…

Plenty of people have commented on the fact that you're not eating enough, so I won't get into that. I took a quick look through your diary, and I don't think you're getting enough fiber. I know for myself to be satisfied on fewer calories I need a LOT more fiber. Try combining your food types to see what keeps you full.…

There are plenty of lunch bags that will keep your food cool for a period of time if you want to go that route. Or a thermos for keeping things hot. Drier vegetables like carrots, celery, and peppers would keep well. Maybe not so much on the wetter ones like cucumbers.
