  • Op, have you looked into getting a rice or multicooker? I have an electric pressure cooker, bought it on sale for $30 and a rice cooker, $15. I cook beans in the pressure cooker and freeze them. On quick cook nights I can make a fast dish of rice and beans, or soup which is ridiculously easy in the pressure cooker. A cup…
  • Chop up some fresh dill, parsley and chives. Grate a nit of fresh garlic. Add a bit of olive oil, a mild vinegar and/or lemon, salt, pepper and some yogurt. I used to love bottled dressings but since I started making my own dressings with herbs and spices I can't stand the flavor.
  • Have you seen a doctor to make sure you don't have muscle separation? If you haven't you should go before starting any sort of abdominal exercise regime. We are nearly post partpartum twins. I had my baby 9/4, also by c section. ;)
  • Fritattas or most breakfast casseroles.
  • 1 meat dish, 1 grain dish, 1 salad, 1 vegetable dish, and dessert. Usually we have a light soup too. Last time we had friends over Marinated chicken (all different parts - breast, thigh, drumstick) with bread crumbs, baked and then broiled to get the bread crumbs browned. Rice pilaf with lots of bits of veggies in there -…
  • Thanks for the responses! Colecake, I didn't even think to ask for anxiety meds! I used to have panic attacks, but haven't since my life has become, well, less panic inducing. I've never taken a lamaze class, and ya that style of breathing seems goofy to me. I've been listening to relaxation guided meditations and just…
  • I have a desk job too. I've found the biggest deal with my weight loss has been to teach myself NOT to snack. I just don't eat outside of mealtimes, except that I normally have a tea time in the afternoon around 2 or 3. This is when I find I really want a sweet pick me up, so I have some nice warm tea and some fruit. I…
  • It sucks, but I'd try and power through it. It will make your adjustment to the baby being here MUCH easier. I had a horrible time sleeping my last trimester with my last pregnancy, and it was awful, but by comparison having a newborn around was a breeze. I definitely feel you though. One night I got up and started crying…

  • At 34 weeks I've gained just about 20lbs. I was just 10lbs under being overweight, so I wanted to stick to the lower end of the weight recommendation. Looks like I'm just about on track to do that. I've been on limited physical activity and have been all around exhausted this ENTIRE pregnancy, so I'm pretty happy with that.
  • I think walking is excellent exercise and awesome for stress relief. Go for it. With that said you don't need to do any exercise to keep the weight off. I'm on limited physical activity, have sciatic nerve pain, and can barely do anything besides swim sometimes. I started in a normal weight range and have gained 20lbs at…
  • Two pregnancies have done a number on the enamel on my teeth, so I make sure to brush them with an enamel strengthening brand directly after I finish a meal or drink a lot of lemon water. I keep a small cosmetic bag in my purse with a toothbrush and toothpaste. I love water with lemon slices. ;) Sometimes I switch it up…
  • Don't let your mind play games with you. Controlling your weight during pregnancy is just like controlling your weight not pregnant. You don't indulge in every craving when you're not pregnant, so don't do it when you're pregnant. Go to your OB and ask what is an appropriate weight gain for you, and try to stick to it. I…
  • My husband took my 3 year old a trip, and I don't even know what to do without them. Its kind of pathetic. I'm starting to run out of projects for myself. Its nice to get to just relax, but it takes some getting used to as well. ;) I'm just about 33.5 weeks pregnant, and I'm finally starting to feel like this will end at…
  • On the weekends I do a kid physical activity. We go to the beach, park, bowling, swimming pool, something where we're running around. There is a great park nearby with a playground in the middle of a walking track. Score! Most nights after dinner we go for a walk. When my daughter was little I used to do a half hour of…
  • Either budget your calories in such a way that you can have your night time snacks or start a hobby that requires the use of your hands.
  • I don't have any ideas that haven't already been said, but have fun! That sounds like a blast!
  • Aaah it makes me nuts when people say this because unless you are buying the trendy 'health' food or ridiculous out of season imported fruit/veggies eating healthy is sooo much cheaper than processed food, even fast food. Eggs, beans, lentils and rice are as cheap as they come. A whole chicken, or even a cooked rotisserie…
  • Never google! Do you have endometriosis? I do and I get weird clotty periods sometimes. I'd drink a LOT of water and lay down for a bit. If you're still having symptoms in a few hours go to the doctor, unless you think you should go to a doctor now, in which case you should go to a doctor NOW.
  • Do you have an ethnic aisle in your store? If you do its probably there.
  • Meditation oasis has a good and free series on meditation. There are also a few apps out there. 1. Go for a walk or run 2. Go for a drive. Nothing more therapeutic than driving around with loud music on 3. Journal. I used to do this, but got too paranoid that someone would read it. Oh wait, it was read several times. 4.…

  • You're all missing an important point. Juice is delicious. And not that crap you can buy in the store. The fresh stuff.
  • I just throw some water and lemon/fruit and mint into a regular pitcher. I use a small tea strainer to strain out the fruit as I'm drinking, or if its already been sitting for a few hours I strain and transfer to a new pitcher anyways. I use a strainer like this:…

  • I eat a lot of soup. We probably have soup with our meal nearly every day. I think its a great tool for weight loss and maintaining weight. Some people want to have air popped popcorn as a snack, but I prefer soup. Bonus, soup is really easy, can go straight in the crock pot, and kids usually like it. My knowledge of…

  • Water. I drank an insane amount of water last pregnancy, and I am this pregnancy too. If you get tired of regular water look up 'infusion water recipes' on google and pinterest. My favorite is just lemon slices with fresh mint, but I also like pretty much any fruit with mint.

  • The crockpot is perfect for soups/stews and shredded style meats. If you get one of the very wide ones you can use it for whole chickens and roasts. Its also perfect for cooking beans. Quick soak, rinse, and throw them in there until done. There are plenty of meals you can preplan, freeze, and throw in the crockpot. I like…
  • If you are TTC go on amazon and order the big pack of pregnancy tests. Then, each month test yourself as early as you can. You'll only be a few weeks along, your baby will be smaller than a pea, and not affected in the least by weight loss. Many women lose some weight the first trimester from morning sickness anyways, so…
  • Do you like the mayo based pasta salads or other kinds? I like vinegary style pasta salads myself. Or a southwest pasta salad. Sub some amount of the pasta for veggies and/or beans. Is it the pasta or the sauce you are craving? When I find myself craving the sauce (think, mac and cheese) I make zucchini or sometimes a mix…

  • Either plan ahead or just go to sleep. Are you getting enough sleep? I find I make horrible food choices when I'm tired or not sleeping enough. My favorite before bedtime snack lately has been peaches heated in the microwave with some milk, honey, and shredded coconut. Nomnomnom. I eat it with a tea spoon so it lasts…
  • I'm 5'8" and started out this pregnancy at 150lb, so just squeaking by on the normal BMI. I've gained 21lb and I'm at 28 weeks. Since I was at the top of my BMI scale I was hoping to gain 25lbs, but I'll be happy if its under 30lb. I gained the most weight in my second trimester with my previous pregnancy, and it looks…
