Want to lose weight but I am trying to get pregnant

So I am trying to lose weight but I am also trying to get pregnant. So I fear that I will mess up and make myself lose a baby if I am exercising too hard or not eatting enough. I know if I am pregnant I only need an extra 300 calories a day so I try to stay between my 1200/day limit and 1500/day. Does anyone have any helpful hints on how I can lose weight a healthy way without an insanity workout?

Unless you are starving yourself to the point that your cycles stopped, you can safely lose weight while trying to get pregnant. You can also exercise safely while trying to get pregnant. Many doctors recommend that a woman be at or near a normal BMI when trying to get pregnant because the extra weight puts both mother and child at risk. Once you actually are pregnant, you can think about eating the extra 300 calories a day, but you don't have to eat that before you get pregnant.0

losing weight and pregnancy don't really mix. unless you are working out so hard as to effect ovulation you should be fine. Most Drs will suggest working out during pregnancy. They suggest one not start a new program but anything you are doing pre prego should be fine.
Above all, listen to your body0 -
Talk to your doctor regarding your calorie goal and what exercises are ok to do.0

If you are TTC, a visit to your OB/GYN is a good start to ensure that your hormone levels are where they need to be and that you can get started on a good prenatal vitamin. Otherwise, diet and exercise is not going to hamper anything. A moderate calorie deficit and exercise isn't going to harm anything, even doing Insanity. Of course, initially you may be too sore to get anything done, but that goes away.
Also, side benefit of exercise - MORE energy for baby dancing.
Side note: if you are doing IVF, then there are exercise restrictions during the process, but that would be discussed with you by your doctor.0 -
From what I've heard from my preggo friends on MFP, the extra calories needed doesn't start until late 2nd and 3rd trimester. I plan to be in your shoes in a few years, and I figure, I can eat at a reasonable deficit (mine at the moment is 500 cal deficit a day to lose 1 lb a week) but once I have my possible home test, I get to bump it up to maintenance calories and enjoy the next 9ish months.0

This. If you're really that concerned, your doctor is definitely the best person to discuss these things with.0 -
Wouldn't it be wise to lose the weight first and then the baby? I'm just wondering myself... (not that I am trying to have a baby) just curious...0

Hi there,
This question is really best for a doctor, or nurse who is aware of your medical history and has a lot of awesome medical knowledge. Please talk to them!0 -

i was on mfp for 7 months last year at 1600 net cals working out 4 times a week, lost 10 kg, and finally got pregnant after 3 yrs of trying and 2 losses. i felt so much healthier having lost that weight, eating healthy and working out regularly. and im sure this contributed to getting pregnant, a healthy pregnancy and a healthy baby /whi is happily feeding away in my arms as i type this so go for it, good luck0

If you are TTC go on amazon and order the big pack of pregnancy tests.
Then, each month test yourself as early as you can. You'll only be a few weeks along, your baby will be smaller than a pea, and not affected in the least by weight loss. Many women lose some weight the first trimester from morning sickness anyways, so even if you some weight before you find out you're pregnant the baby will be fine. You do not need any extra calories during the first trimester.
Until then carry on with your weight loss and instilling healthy habits into your lifestyle. Once you are pregnant, or even before, talk to your doctor about what is a healthy weight gain.0 -
