A rest day tomorrow and a nice pasta dinner - in preparation for my first half marathon on Sunday! I'm just hoping that I shake off the stomach bug I've had all week before the race.

I like this one too, let's bump it up :)

I thought the "drinking" point was a bit out of date too - everything I've read lately says "drink when thirsty", not "drink regularly". Although perhaps that is more relevant for long slow activities (eg. slow long distance runneres, like me).

I think I'd rather run in the heat than in the cold - I can't stand having my fingers so cold that they hurt..... Having said that, when it's really hot I run as early as I can in the morning - there is nothing more enjoyable than a cool(ish) morning run before a HOT day. I think the key is to carry water, plan your route…

C25k or another program for beginner runners is a great idea because it gives you structure and slowly increases your amount of running v walking. It has been life changing for me, I went from over 90kg (200 pounds) and on the couch in January 2011 to a 20kg lighter version of myself who is running a half marathon next…

I don't chew gum, so it's not an issue to me, but if it's only occasional I wouldn't bother. If you are chewing it all day and clocking up 100 cals a day, then it should probably be included, but otherwise, I wouldn't bother. I don't log my 2 or 3 black coffees every day, or a sprinkle of fresh parsley on my dinner or…

Hell no, that's just an excuse! (nearly 46 years young here).

I don't know - I think I've found it easier than when I'm younger - I think because this time I'm really doing it for me, not because of any notions about what I need to look like for anyone else. I've exercised more in the last year that I have for... well, ever really. I've eaten better, I'm smarter about what and how I…

Most of the entries in the database are entered by users, so you will find a huge variation - some are errors and some are for different serving sizes or recipes/brands/regional variations. I usually have a look at a few entries and pick something that comes in around the middle value.

Fantastic! My first half marathon is in one week, though its the second one I've trained for. My advice is to train for the distance, not for a time goal. Last year I trained hard, aiming for a specific time but went too hard too fast and ended up with a hip flexor injury and had to cut back to a 10k race instead of the…

No "program" here - I just eat regular food - mostly homecooked, and aim to not eat too much of it.

No more "wrong" than eating steak, in other words, OK if you aren't vegetarian. I though this was common knowlege - what did you think gelatine was made from? OS. I've never eaten a pop tart in my life - it's yet another one if those bizarre American "foods" I think.
-
It's a great idea - having a race as a goal is a great way for me to stay focussed and motivated to train. You'll probably want to plan to run /walk, and I suggest you build up your distance gradually - pushing it too hard too fast is going to put you at risk of injury. Enjoy!!

If you like chocolate milk - why not drink chocolate milk??? And eat food???

Me neither - her abs look strange and she has a creepy belly button. By then, I don't get motivated by other peoples bodies - just makes me more concious of the flaws in my own. Nothing wrong with the message - but if I didn't feel like running, that wouldn't make me go. Perhaps I'm odd, but I think my motivation is only…

I signed up for a race .... Knowing that I have to run 21km motivates me to keep building up my endurance.

"Raw" works too - search for "apple raw" or "carrot raw". And if you choose a database entry that has no * in front, you'll find that it has lots of different serving sizes - cup, piece, 100g etc. I found that it did take a while to get used to the database - but the more you use it the easier it gets (trust me on this -…

This web site uses a whole bunch of different formulas to calculate your maximum heart rate, so you'll see a pretty wide variance: http://www.brianmac.co.uk/maxhr.htm Like photoriffic, I don't pay too much attention to those maximum numbers though - my HRM has recorded numbers up over 200 pretty often and I'm not dead yet,…

Usually when someone posts "I'm starving" - it's simply because they aren't eating enough. You shouldn't be eating so little that you are "starving". My guess is that you just aren't eating enough calories. or that you are choosing food with little nutritional value so your body is demanding more actual food.

Wow, I'd never thought about them picking up the signals from the chest strap, though I guess it's a wireless signal. I've seen lots of people have problems with telephones causing noises with hearing aids. I wonder if there is any setting on your hearing aid that could tune out the signal? Like the T switch which lets you…

If you want someone who can work with you one on one - can you ask your doctor about referral to a dietician as a starting point? And look into a gym or personal trainer in your area? If you don't want to go with these options, why not just get started with MFP and see how you go, its very easy to use: - just start by…

It's OK as long as you don't seat them next to a male crocodile, dingo, snake, spider or other dangerous animal. Usually though, they seat the animals next to each other in a special zone so it's not generally a problem.

I cut all my hair off in January - but before that I used to put it in a ponytail and pull it through the hole at the back of a cap. The cap helps keep the stray bits out of my eyes and absorbs some of the head sweat (yuck!). Now I just use the cap!

It's flavoured, artificially sweetened water - just like a diet soft drink. It's not plain water - but it will still hydrate you. If you aren't bothered by artificial sweeteners - go for it.

If your doctor did not indicate that you have any heart problem - then there is no reason to think you have a heart problem. If you are still concerned, go back to see him, or call his office for clarification.

Sadly, this is not true. If there was such a simple way to "clean away" cancer - no one would be dying of it. www.snopes.com/medical/disease/lemons.asp

I don't think that telling him he's fat and lazy is going to help your cause....

Have a look at the ingredients list before you buy that cooking cream - didn't look good to me at all. You don't need a lot of cream for texture and flovour - I buy one with ingredients: cream ( though you have to hunt for it). I'd suggest that you slice some zucchini into ribbons, toss the zucchini, some cherry tomatoes,…

No. How will that affect your wedding in anyway?

Shovelling *kitten* is not "normal" in my book. OP: have you set your daily activity level to include looking after your horses? If you have, don't add anything. If you add your exercise separately (ie. use MFP in the way it is designed) then find another activity that seems similar to you and enter that instead. Don't…
