I heard some good advice about baby names this week - imagine your daughter introducing herself at her first job interview. I think the point of this is to discourage the "Peacheee Fluffiebelle" school of naming. And from personal experience can I suggest that you name her something that is spelled in a conventional…

That is interesting... I frequently remind myself that "I can't outrun a bad diet". Having said that, I think there are many other benefits to exercise - not only for physical but for mental health too. I find that my mood always improves when I exercise regularly but I've accepted that I have to be conscious of what I eat…

I have a Garmin Forerunner 405 (watch with chest strap) which connects to the computer via a USB ANT adaptor. I'm not sure if this is what you are after but it works very well for me.

That sounds like me - very wide in the forefoot and high arches. Of course I have also added some old injuries and a few neuromas which makes it hard to find good shoes too.... My current shoes are Brooks Dyad, the previous ones were Nike Vomeros. Both of these work pretty well - I had to go up a size with the Brooks to…

Sure, you can lose weight eating vegetables. Actually you can lose weight eating any kind of food (google the Twinkie diet,) but losing weight doesn't necessarily mean that you are healthier. The reality is that most people are going to be healthiest eating a wide variety of food. Veggies are great - eat lots of them, but…

Yes, it's bad. You're probably already dead but your body hasn't noticed because you didn't eat your Weetbix!! PS. I usually choose to eat breakfast, but I know I'm not going to keel over if I don't.

I'll use the accessible toilet if that is the only one available, or if I need the extra space because I have lots of suitcases and no one to watch them. I would also use it if I had a pram and no other option to leave a little one somewhere when I had to go. If I have no need to use it, I'll go to a regular stall if there…

Yup, my suggestion is that you eat more than 1200 calories! It looks like you're not too far from your goal in which case you might find that a more realistic goal (like 1/2 pound a week) gives you a reasonable amount of cals to eat while still letting you lose weight. It might be slower, but the reality is that most…

Another suggestion for you - look for entries with no * in front. These have been entered by MFP based on a standard database (USDA maybe?) and they are most likely to be accurate. Anything with a * in front has been entered by a user so it's buyer-beware!

Both are deal breakers for me.

Everyone is different - and you will find something positive and negative about every kind of diet online if you look hard enough! Personally I think that the key is to make sure that most of the food you are eating is giving you good nutrition, then once you are confident you are giving your body what it needs to stay…

The first thing is to make sure you are drinking plenty of water - dehydration can make you feel pretty terrible. But, make sure you aren't drinking WAY too much water (this is pretty hard to do but it can happen). If your food and water intake is good and you are otherwise healthy - this isn't normal and you should see…

Nope. Can't think of anything that I have cut out. I certainly eat less chocolate and cake and drink less wine - but I know that as soon as I start making "rules" for myself about cutting out certain foods altogether, I'm just setting myself up to fail. And why would I want to do that?

You don't know if they are correct, the user might have made a mistake - I've found things that have the wrong serving size so the calories are off, or ones where people clearly don't know the difference between a calorie and a kilojoule and have enter kj instead of cals. And others that are just so far off that they must…

"I could tell you but then I'd have to kill you" or "illicit drugs" or "I only eat blue food" or "I only eat when a politician tells the truth". Enjoy!

Wow, that's inviting. No thanks. (but you can thank me for bumping your topic up for you!)

My advice is that you start good eating and exercise habits. And that you don't get fixated on numbers and dates - that might seem important now but in the longer term the most important thing is to find a way of eating that keeps you healthy and that you can sustain for the rest of your life. Alternatively, you could…

You can add strength training under cardio if you want to use MFP's cals burnt. Have a look in the FAQs (there is lots of good info there!) for a more detailed answer.

I think that really depends on your health and level of fitness. Lots of people train hard, go hiking, run marathons, play sport etc that burns a lot of calories. But, you need to build up to that level, going from being completely sedentary to burning 1000 cals a day may be putting your health at risk. Generally though,…

I stopped listing my food under "breakfast/lunch/dinner/snack" and changed it to 6-9am, 9-12pm, 12-3pm etc. That way I enter food for the time I eat it, and I don't have to waste time thinking about if it is really a breakfast or snack meal. Make the system work for you! To answer your question - my meals are usually…

My best advice is that you don't sit around and wait to be motivated. Pick one small goal and work on that for a week. It might be to log everything you eat, whether its a good choice or not. Or to have a healthy breakfast every day for a week. Or to walk for 15 minutes every day. Those small habits build up into bigger…

Run slower! I found that as soon as I slowed down I could run further. Build your endurance first, speed with come later. And, if you feel as though week 4 is just too hard, go back to week 3 and repeat that until you are comfortable then move on. You can do it!

Spend a bit of time thinking ahead about what you are going to do....here's a few suggestions to get you started: - offer to bring a fruit platter or some veggies and low fat dip (tzatkiki for example) so you know there will be some lower cal nibbles. - keep a full glass in your hand so people don't offer to get you a…

I've never used mayo with tuna (it seems like one of those odd 70's American things like jello salads!) but I do like avocado and tuna mixed together -it makes a really good sandwich spread or dip.
-
I use it sometimes - I've started doing it again for the past week or so and I like the fact that if I have a day where I'm way over calories it give me a stark reminder of the fact that my weight is likely to go UP not down.
-
If you feel more comfortable splitting your 1000 cals over 2 days - go for it! Your body doesn't work on an exact 24 hour clock like we do, as long as you are getting good nutrition to keep your energy up, you'll be fine.
-
You certainly aren't sedentary. Try lightly active for a month and see how you go - this isn't an exact science!
-
I'm not sure what your question is... are you concerned that eating wheat thins (whatever they are) or dry cereal is going to magically stop you losing weight, even though you've eaten around the recommended number of calories? No food is truly "bad" - unless you are someone who has a severe allergy, in which case you…

The chicken tenders should be OK, but if you are hungry, I would get the prime rib - eat the meat and give the bun a miss. Get a green salad with dressing on the side to go with it and you'll have a delicious lunch with lots of nutrition and hopefully not too many extra cals that you can't see. Or the teriyaki chicken…
