I use a brown paper lunch bag and my microwave to cook popcorn. Put about 1/4 cup of popcorn in the bag and "seal" the bag by making two small folds (about 1/2 inch each). It takes around 3 minutes, but I just listen for the popping to slow down. You don't need to put any fat in the bag, and if you fold it over it won't…

Hi Everyone. I just wanted to drop in and say hi. I haven't had a chance to catch up on everything I've missed since my first couple posts last week. I really would like to become a member of this group for real, but have been so preoccupied trying to paint my house and dealing with drama from the inlaws that it's been a…

I just started it today and entered 20 minutes of "Circuit training, general". Hope that helps.

I live in a pretty small city, about 150,000 on a good day, so I don't have much of a choice on who I get. I felt fortunate that my family doctor sent the referral to the OBGYN I requested since I've heard a lot of good things about her - and I've met two others in town and they weren't the nicest men. There's been so much…

Great post! I think a lot of people could benefit from reading it as it answers many common questions.

Hi Ladies! I'm glad to have noticed this thread! I posted a little about my story in a different thread earlier today, but I guess I'll maybe just give a little background about myself again. I am 27 and have been married four years. We have not used any birthcontrol since the summer of 2006, and started seriously trying…

I am in a similar boat! Six years ago I had a tenis-ball sized cyst removed from my right ovary. At that time, my family doctor and my GYN both through around the possibility of PCOS, but no further investigation was done. Last June, after 13 months trying to conceive, I was finally pregnant. I had an early ultrasound at…

Hello from Kelowna, BC :)

Thank you! I agree, there people who believe everything they read, and I think this can be dangerous. I was just trying to point out that we should all question the source when we hear new information, especially information that could impact our health.

I think the main reason there are warnings about excessive salt intake is for cardiovascular health, not weight loss. Too much salt can lead lead to high blood pressure, and prolonged high blood pressure can lead to a heart attack. If your blood pressure is is within a healthy range and you're not feeling bloated from…

Also, most of us get our iodine intake from (iodized) table salt. Sufficient dietary iodine (and, therefore, table salt) is necessary for normal thyroid function. I only mention this because we hear a lot of the reasons NOT to consume salt, so I thought I'd answer the question in the initial post and put it out there that…

Consuming too little sodium can result in a dangerous condition called hyponatremia. However, most of us struggle with keeping our intake low enough so there probably isn't too much reason for concern. Here's a link about the condition if you're curious: http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/hyponatremia/DS00974

I don't mean to be mean either. Maybe it comes from being a student - learning to back your claims with good research?
-
This sounds like it to me: Her post is critical of "misinfomed" people (people who have believed what they've heard from media) and yet she expects people to consider her claims simply because she's made them. How would blind faith in her arguments be different from blind faith in the media's?
-
I am neither accepting nor challenging her argument. I am questioning her position as an "expert", making claims without supporting her argument.
-
Ha. I can't tell whether or not you're being sarcastic?
-
And you are a more reliable source because... ?

Actually, anything between 60 and 100 bpm is considered a normal resting heart rate and 72 is the average. To the original question - sorry, I have no answer!

I wouldn't call coconut oil a health food - it's almost entirely saturated fat! The fats in other cooking oils, including olive, canola, and grapeseed oils, on the other hand, are mostly UNsaturated.

I enjoyed my last latte on January 1st and boy do I miss my caffeinated drinks! I gave it up because I have fertility problems and found research that suggests caffeine can contribute to hormonal imbalances and, therefore, infertility - as can soy products, in case anyone's curious. I was lucky not to have any withdrawl…

You've probably just built up a lot of muscle from all the working out you've been doing! Since muscle weighs more than fat, you're likely still losing inches even though the number on the scale is going up a little.

I did a quick google search... and it seems that carbonated water does not contribute to weight gain, and that drinking it can actually assist in weight loss since the gases can make you feel fuller. Other carbonated drinks (ones with sugar and other additives), however, can contribute to weight gain.…
