I'm extremely picky as well. People say "just try it" but I really can't make myself. I realize this makes eating healthy a little more difficult, much more monotonous, but still possible. I still haven't mastered the "healthy" eating, but I am at least committed to tracking everything I eat, counting the calories and…

I've worn a Fitbit for over three years now - it's really interesting to see how things compare day to day. But that IS what I love about the Fitbit, is it's hard to keep track of every thing you do (especially if it's the movement all throughout the day, not a dedicated exercise session). People say "I prefer my HRM" ...…

I started MFP last May, and started using their "blog" but I ended up setting a blog up on blogspot ... just a little more user friendly. Search function, recent posts list, much easier to organize and add pictures to. So I "started" several months ago, when I started MFP, and I'm still going strong on both!…

@bekahlou ... when you go to the Fitbit website, in the top right corner you will see your profile picture. Click on it and it will take you to a summary page. Here you'll have your average daily burn for the last 30 days. If you are logging food in MFP and have connected the two, it will also show your intake and give you…

I've had a Fitbit for over three years and would have to be without it even for a day. I'm addicted to the feedback and my visual history of my activity each day. I did a post about all the aspects of the Fitbit on my blog http://jenbsjourney.blogspot.com/2013/08/wondering-about-fitbit.html We are a Fitbit family, with my…

I'm a treadmiller year round ... (too cold in winter, too hot in summer, too many dogs and other issues ... yes, I'm a wimp!) As a mom with kids at home, it's nice to be able to go for miles and still only be 30 seconds away if needed (that does have it's disadvantages too). As others have said, TV/Movies are helpful to…

You won't get rid of "belly fat" but should tone all over. I think I noticed it most in my arms. I'd say give it a whirl. Don't expect miracles, but 30DayShred is a good program.

I never bought into any claims of quick fixes, but heard many people rave about them for comfort. I bought some and was not impressed at all (but then again, admittedly I hate shoes and only wear them when absolutely necessary). I can't even "walk" in them (if I'm doing an extended walk as a "workout" they just start…

When I did 30DS, I did it Mon-Fri and took the weekends off. I'd add on some additional cardio each day too (I had the time/energy/desire). I'm working my way through Ripped in 30 right now. I'm just doing it 2-3 times a week, and adding in cardio and a full body weight weights session too. As JJJJ25 said, I think I had…

I have the One and really like it. I'm not one for wearing something on my wrist, and the Flex was missing a couple items (a display, stairs ... these items have been added to the new "Force"). My 18 year old has the Flex and is fine with it. My 14 year old and I have the One, it's easier to wear inconspicuously (he plays…

I don't really consider 1400-1600 a LOT of calories ... many people could actually maintain or lose on that without any exercise. I do enjoy exercising, and get in quite a bit each day. I try to keep my calories around 2000 and have a hard time doing that (I'm still eating a lot of junk, so empty calories add up quick).…

There does seem to be a lot of conflicting information on WHEN to eat (things that say to never skip breakfast, never eat after 6:00 ... then as people here have said that calories are calories no matter when they are consumed). I don't really pay specific attention to when I've eaten last in the evening, and I generally…

The Fitbit (and sometimes this even varies between models) doesn't calculate all activities correctly, it is good to have a HRM and then compare the readings on the two (you can use the settings on the Fitbit to find out exactly what it calculated for a specific workout/time period). I've done this with my Fitbit and HRM…

MFP almost always give a very low calorie count to start, but if you add in any exercise at all, it will allow you more calories to eat. Your Fitbit TDEE is higher because it is taking into account ALL your actual activity (not just exercise, but movement throughout the day as well). That said ... many people do believe…

I'm an elliptical gal (I do 10 miles almost every day) ... yet I don't feel like I could jog a 5k. I do jog a bit, and while my elliptical says I have more mileage (2 miles in 20 minutes) and calories (about 200 for that 20 minutes) it definitely seems "easier" to me. I can do a 12 minute mile, just one then I need to…

I don't drink, but weekends are tough for me too. I'm just in a good routine Mon-Thurs. I know part of the problem is just sleeping in a bit on the weekends (I lose a couple hours right there), then going out with hubby, family parties, stopping for donuts after a basketball game ... combined with less activity as we have…

I'm being totally out there and open this go around.... complete with a blog with weekly weigh-ins. I want the accountability. I don't bring it up in person much, but it's there if anyone is interested. I really enjoy the interaction with MFP friends and those in the blogosphere. http://jenbsjourney.blogspot.com/

I don't drink "soda" ... anything caffeinated or carbonated, but I do keep a pitcher of SF fruit punch in the fridge. I like to pat myself on the back for not drinking "soda" but in truth, I'm sure my drink isn't really that different when it comes to the concerns about diet soda. I do water it down quite a bit ...

We got a recumbent a few years ago, it is easier on the back, having something to press against. It was still hard for me when I started, but now I do 10 or 12 miles easy (I keep it at level 6, 16mph, but it does feel pretty leisurely). I read or watch a show on the Ipad.

I'm sure you're fine. It's those who regularly eat under 1200 that get people worried about them. I've had three bad days this weekend (it was my birthday too) and I don't know that I'll have a low calorie day tomorrow, but if I wasn't hungry, I would go for it. I'm generally very active, and I eat quite a bit too. Very…

I loved the DragonRiders of Pern series that someone else mentioned. Wool is good. A couple others I read recently that I really liked and/or thought had many points to ponder for a book club type setting would be Partials Across The Universe Human .4

I'm pretty sure Runkeeper does - but it seems like that would be so much more work than a Fitbit. I love my Fitbit, just put it on and forget about it. With an app, you have to carry your phone, start the app when you start your workout, stop it when you're done (I've done if a couple of times just to compare the estimates…

I weigh every morning. I have the Fitbit Aria scale, so my Fitbit (and thus my MFP) are updated with my changing weight. It is frustrating to see my MFP ticker go backwards. I know I probably wouldn't manually input my weight on MFP every day, especially for ups! It is motivating to have the ticker always current though. I…

I have the Fitbit One and it tracks my elliptical use just fine. I mean, it doesn't get the mileage exactly right (the elliptical says I did two miles, the Fitbit calculates around 2500 steps in my 20 minutes ... gives me a calorie burn around 180, compared to 200 from the machine and 150 from a HRM ... they are all…

Yes - wear the Fitbit all the time (unless swimming) and then wear the HRM during some workouts (word is they are NOT great for estimating calories during weight workouts). I don't put my HRM on for many workouts (elliptical, bike, treadmill) because I'm pretty routine, it was always ending up about the same. It is just a…

We are a Fitbit family (me, my two boys, my parents, my brother) ... I did a blog post about everything I love about the Fitbit http://jenbsjourney.blogspot.com/2013/08/wondering-about-fitbit.html Originally I did get a Jawbone Up for my 17-year old (the Flex wasn't in stock). He lost it after just a few weeks. He liked it…

I figure if people like looking at food journals to get ideas and such ... they certainly don't need to look at mine. It isn't inspiring in any way. At best I'm boring, at worst I'm bad. I opened mine up for a bit, hoping maybe I'd feel pressure to keep my intake cleaner ... it didn't really work, I just felt the urge to…

Even if you don't prelog your entire day, if you commit to prelogging before you put something in your mouth, at least that takes away a bit of of the "mindless" factor. You have to think about it, whether it's worth it or not. It does take action on your part. I even tried taking it a step further ... I bought an app…

I have both, and I love, love, love my Fitbit. I love the entire picture of the day, not just your workouts. I do several workouts throughout the day, and so often I just don't want to bother putting the Polar on. I still will here and there, and I do like the heart rate feedback during the workout, and the calorie…

I agree the best ones are free (MFP *Ü*) ... but the whole tone of the articles (to me) was that apps were not helpful overall... I've been very motivated and helped out by my apps.
