  • I keep both fresh and frozen fruits on hand. If I get a craving for junk (and it's been happening a lot lately), I'll have a glass of water and a peach or plum. If I'm still craving the junk after that, I'll go ahead and let myself have it. I also keep dark chocolate covered raisins or almonds around - I'm not going to say…
  • I live in the US and uh, we don't really do grams. But I eat exactly a 1c portion when I have pasta or rice. And it's always 100% whole grain (not the brown-tinged stuff masquerading as whole grain).
  • Before I started eating better, I would coupon for my groceries. I was able to keep my bill to about $50/mo for just me (excluding meat purchases). I could get 6 large bags of peanut M&Ms for $1 or 20 high-sugar yogurts for $3. I had gotten 25 microwavable Healthy Choice soup bowls for a few bucks one time, and a similar…
  • You should be drinking more water lol I hate when people say "8 glasses a day" - and doctors say it left and right and I want to smack them upside the head every time I hear it. Every body is different and people use their fluids differently and at different rates, depending on a LOT of factors, not just how much exercise…
  • Count me in :) Dr. Who and League of Legends are my big vices right now - but I still pull out my Gameboy Color from time to time for some Pokemon play >.<
  • We've been doing a lot of grilled salmon lately - mmmm! And usually a potato and/or bell peppers for a side. And I always have chicken sausage when I feel like bein' fatty :)
  • My boyfriend has been nudging me because he wants us to get a few bikes and start taking rides together, or even just take walks together after dinner but I always decline. I'm still so much bigger than him that's it's embarrassing when I'm huffing and puffing and crazy out of breath - and he's just strolling along at his…
  • Welcome! :) I'm 23 and my first goal is 69 pounds, but I have a feeling I'll adjust that down once I get under 200. Feel free to add me :)
  • I tell my patients to check their pee if they're worried about hydration: it should be very pale yellow (and I don't mean after it's already mixed with water in the toilet bowl, so grab a cup you don't mind throwing out). If it's darker, you're dehydrated and need to drink more plain(!) water. Also, a lot of those citrus…
  • That's correct.
  • At 20 pounds down, the only difference I saw was that my pants suddenly (and I mean like, overnight-ish) seemed pretty baggy. But after another 5 pounds, I had to go down a jean size because they wouldn't stay on my hips. And I think the new pants were when people started commenting on my weight loss. Chin up, it'll become…
  • ^that made me giggle lol But way to go, lady! :) When mine started getting loose and bunchy, I got sooo excited too!
  • lololol - my boyfriend makes fun of me because I literally only play one character: Akali. Feel free to add me - thoRN26
  • From what I understand, cramps are usually a result of low potassium, not sodium..?
  • Welcome (back) - feel free to add me! :)
  • ^^that. I tell a lot of my patients with hypertension to focus on increasing dietary potassium in combination with sodium restriction.
  • A reasonable amount, though, is somewhere around 2-500mg/day...most people take that to either of the two extremes, myself included. And let's not forget that most fruits and veggies contain sodium, too - you can easily hit your needed intake for the day by having some fruit with breakfast and lunch.
  • My one and only experience with chia seeds was not a good one :\ One of the girls at work was telling me about how they combine with liquid (like gastric juices or saliva) and form a sludge that's difficult to digest, and therefore keeps you fuller longer. So I was like, "yeah, I'll have some o' that" Well. She brought me…
  • lol I'm not gonna lie, I chuckled at the question. I'm not losing specifically for cosplay or anything like that - but I wouldn't mind lookin' awesome in a Sailor Moon outfit eventually. Or better yet, Akali. Awww yeaaahhh :)
  • I'm in :) Is it...Nick Fury?
  • I know how you feel...I went for a ride with my boyfriend's parents a few months back (when I met them for the very first time) and I couldn't get the seat belt around my belly. I was mortified!
  • ..."moobs." Cracks me up lol
  • Before I started eating better, I was having fast food 1-2 times per day and drinking a TON of soda. When I think about it now, I was probably averaging 3000 calories per day without meaning to (which is, obviously, why most of us are here.) Now, when I switched to a healthy intake and more wholesome foods, the first 10-11…
  • Same boat. Up at 5:30, work until 5:30 and I cut out caffeine as well. I munch on a small handful of roasted almonds around 3:30 and sometimes I'll throw in either a cheese stick, yogurt or piece of fruit, too. That picks me up enough to get through the last bit of my day, and usually keeps me full until my 7pm dinner :)…
  • I stopped eating 3-4 portions (of whatever) at one sitting! Now I measure my food if I'm unsure of the correct portion size, and if I do eat 2 servings (like 4 Fig Newtons instead of 2!), I count them properly :)
  • Sorry, but not good advice. I work with pregnant women in nutritional counseling, and you really do need a balanced diet for the baby to get all the nutrients that he/she needs - if you cut out an entire food group, your baby is likely to be malnourished. Not to mention, cutting out most or all carbs & fat leaves only…
  • Welcome aboard :) My first goal is 68 pounds (I'm almost halfway there!) and I'll eventually, hopefully, lose closer to 100. I'm just focusing right now on not weighing 200+! I do log in multiple times per day and update after every meal. And I love chatting! Especially about nutrition/exercise stuff, even though opinions…
  • I've made multiple, tiny changes - any time I try to change everything (like eating well and exercising) at the same time, I'd burn out quickly and just go back to my old ways. This time, I cut out pop and started chugging water. Then I limited fast food. Then I swapped my morning bagel & cream cheese for oatmeal and…
