OOps, my whole post just disappeared.

I have lost just over 30 kilos/66+ pounds and weigh myself once a month. If I weigh myself more often I feel I fall victim to the scale , because in a shorter weighing period all the small ups & downs due to water, salt, homones etc show up and I am not interested in waisting my energy on worrying about weight fluctuation…

The weight difference does not matter, because water has zero calories.

It seems to me that it is a lot easier to cook the serving you like apart in another small pot, instead of counting the noodles twice, because you have to count them to know how many noodles is 2oz ( for example ) and then again when you serve yourself from the big pot. You also could cook pasta in multiples of 2 oz (…

The word " diet " is a perfectly good word to use when it comes to food. Only mostly MFPers and Americans shun the word diet, because supposedly a " diet " is only a short lived regimen. In the rest of the world people know that " diet " also means the way a whole culture eats, hence the " Mediterranian diet ". I have…

Potatoes are the perfect diet food for me. I eat them usually with some Sri Racha sauce, or salsa Valentina or just some good quality natural salt and lots of black pepper. If I need something creamy on top, then it's home made greek yogurt, or half a cup of home made Tzatziki. Cauliflower is my #2 favorite vegetable (…

I walk my dog twice a day 30-40 minutes and don't count it as exercise, because it really isn't. We walk a bit, then stop and she sniffs the grass and flowers, checks out things that interest her, looks at a plane in the sky. Then we walk another 15 steps and the same ritual repeats itself. I count dog walking as part of…

If you check/search around a bit you could probably participate in one one the " clean eating " threads within the Clean Eating Group, or participate in one of the more than 100 clean eating threads that I could find through just a simple MFP search. You will find a lot of valuable information just by reading through them.…

Usually I weigh my food raw, but make an exception when it comes to meat ( almost always chicken or fowl ) with bones. I take the cooked meat off the bone and then weigh it. There are many accurate numbers in the data base.

I personally can't eat more than 1200 calories ( I am a bit under 4' 11" and almost 70 years old ), but am an exception. Most people who have been really successful with weight loss have done so eating 1500 calories or more, depending on their age, height, weight and activity level. Imo there is only a very small % that…

Measuring cubed solids by cup is the worst thing you can do for weight loss. If you start weighing them on a scale you will find many correct entries in the MFP data base as well as elsewhere on the internet.

I am one of those " petite ( just under 4' 11 "), senior ( almost 70) " ladies and have discovered that if I eat my exercise calories I eat almost at maintenance and my weight loss will be even slower yet, if not non-existent. I eat 1200 calories of whole, home prepared foods and do fine on that. Every once in a while I…

I started in April 2013 and aimed for .5 pounds a week loss. It has not been a major battle , even though I have no thyroid, have RA for more than 50 years and now also have active Lupus. In April I had two heart attacks caused by Lupus ( and not by an unhealthy lifestyle ) and through all this I lost .5 pounds a week and…

I just tried to be helpful with my suggestion, because you said that ten month of the year you had no real exercise ( walking ) weather. Sorry to interfere, won't happen again.

With all due respect, but no, no. Muscle weighs the same as fat, because a kilo is a kilo and eating 1200 calories for a woman who has exercised all her life gaining muscle is impossible. It ( " beginners gains " ) can be done for a very obese person who is just beginning to lose. You can't make something ( muscle ) out of…

l
You know, that's a good point too. Weather. Seriously, where I live, there are maybe 2 nice months a year. The rest of the time, it's either too cold and snowy, or too humid and hot, and I don't know about most people but the last thing I want to do is be out there walking in those conditions. And I'm someone who…

If you look at all of the US and at all of Europe, I would say the weather is very similar. While you can't compare Switzerland with Arizona, you could easily compare Arizona with large parts of Spain, Switzerland with Colorado and large parts of the US East Coast with many places in Central Europe in general.....as an…

Sorry, the post showed up twice, so I deleted.
Sounds about right. But a car to get around Boston? I can't really wrap my head around that one, lol.
Me either. The few times I've been in Boston I've done everything I can to avoid driving. Miserable construction, traffic, hard to find your way around for someone who doesn't know the city ...
I…

I did not know I had to give geographic details, but should have said Boston and surroundings, because I had to go to Beverly twice a week and at the time there was no way to get there and back on the same day considering my schedule by public transport. Also as an uninformed foreigner, when Tufts University advised me…

But surely no one can think that in other countries they don't have long, cold and snowy winters. Or others with never ending humidity and high temps, where some of the thinnest people on this planet live.

In 1967 I was an exchange student from Germany at a mid-western university and due to circumstances ( living in the dorm was the main reason, not having any money was the other ) I ate my meals at the dining hall, because I was provided with a free pass. I not only took the then required PhysEd classes, but also played…

There is no " healthy magic " in the number of ingredients we use when cooking. I can easily eat a steamed sweet potato with plain home made Greek yogurt as well as a vegetable curry with brown rice that has 22 ingredients. Health wise none of the two is better than the other.
-
It depends how someone uses the word, imo. If someone says that " low cal " yogurt is automatically " healthy " because it's low cal, or " low cal " salad dressing is " healthier ", I 100% agree with you. However, if I say that my salad ( lettuce, tomato, cucumber, red onion, 3 hard boiled quail eggs, 80gr of tuna with…

Definitely ! Otherwise it's too easy to pretend that it did not happen and complain about slow or no weight loss.

I think maybe the challenge is a bit like " clean " eating itself....utterly undefined. We would have to get back and ask what clean eating is, come to an agreement, so " they " ( who ever they are ) could publish some guidelines. Thinking of it, I prefer to do my own thing eating all home cooked meals of whole seasonal &…

If they are in good enough shape to not insult anyone....donate, or pass on to friends/family. If not....throw away. Either way....do not keep them.

I have no thyroid due to cancer and started two years ago at 217 pounds. I am well adjusted with my meds ( and I take high doses, plus cortisone for my RA ) and have lost 65 plus pounds. It was not a struggle, but I needed to develop a lot of patience, because I am aiming for about.5 pounds a week, which means that things…

I am 4' 11" ( and almost 70) and eat 1200 calories of whole foods ( and have all my life ) a day. Sometimes, like today I don't get to the 1200, because of the volume of the food, but usually I hit the mark. I have so far lost 65 plus pounds slowly, but without major problems. I do not eat back my exercise calories ( apart…
