This is a really thorough article about how to understand BMR, TDEE, and how much you should eat to correspond to your body and goals: http://www.myfitnesspal.com/topics/show/943139-weight-loss-cheat-sheet-ipoarm One point is that too little calories lead to more lean mass lost instead of more fat loss. But the article…

The soda is a tablespoon vanilla extract, 2/3 loose cup raisins and one cup vanilla flaxmilk, blended smooth. It's a slight modification of a recipe I found here: thisrawsomeveganlife.com/2012/08/banana-ice-cream-floats.html . It was really flavorful! I ended up eating around the bananas so I could drink it alone, hehe.

People get upset at other folks eating at 1200 calories for a slew of reasons, including ... --TDEE calculators will generally give you a higher recommended caloric intake than the BMR + activity level will (what MFP uses) --If you are trying to lose weight slowly--which is arguably more healthy/sustainable (meaning 0.5-1…

Vegan ice cream float! Banana ice cream + raisin/vanilla/flaxmilk "soda" There's about 230 calories in this cup. :)

Thank you so much! This was really helpful. I have a Droid, and have been using Endomondo increasingly lately, and I'd wondered if there was a cheap HRM that communicated with the phone.

I get commented on what I buy at the grocery store all the time. I'm less of a snob and more of an alien. Highlights: --a cashier ask me how to prepare spaghetti squah --one who asked me what the name of a "leek" is --one asked if (dried) dates were like raisins, and then what fruit they were made from --someone said,…

Off-topic, but: People who eat virtually no cholesterol still produce 100% of what they need, hahaha. Yes, consuming unsaturated, good fats is important. Cholesterol isn't a good dietary fat, even though it can act as a good fat in the body. Here is a really simple publication confirming that:…

I study Environmental Engineering. Being an overeater makes me feel like such a hypocrite when I spend all day thinking about preventing waste.

I've seen this topic on the forum quite a bit since joining, so I started to read some journals about different sugars in the body. This may get a bit technical ... Molecularly, fruit sugars and refined sugars act essentially the same way in our bodies, to the best we know. One major reason why refined sugars behave…

Calories in vegetables count, haha. However, if you have to overeat or have a cheat food, steaming 3 servings of brussels sprouts and 15 servings of spinach may put you at 500 calories, and thus not result in a "loss" for the day .... but they also contain no saturated fat, no trans fat, no cholesterol, minimal amounts of…

This swimsuit! http://i.americanapparel.net/storefront/photos/zoom/serve.asp?media=rnt30n_White.jpg I already own it and it is HOT. (And it will be even hotter 20 pounds from now. )

Take the bag and thump it against the countertop a good few times. Or run it under warm water until you can pull chunks apart.

It is NOT our choice. Our culture supports poor eating; it's *totally* pervasive. It's our responsibility to grow up and question the paradigm, yes---but *everybody* has some degree of authoritarianism in them, and nearly everybody is pretty moderately or very authoritarian. Our culture shapes us. That doesn't make us…

I'm new here, too; vegetarian for many years and in transition to eating vegan.

I don't sweeten my coffee at home. I sometimes brew it with lavender, and sometimes I add cocoa powder. Neither are amazingggg, haha, but especially the cocoa powder is darn good. If I had one of the at-home milk foamers, I would make lattes all the time, haha. Unsweetened, unflavored soy lattes are just perfect: bitter…

I had the same problem (by a lot!). I decided to do a little poking around to see where MFP gets their recommended daily value for sugar, and if it included naturally occuring sugars.. I learned that, about 8 years ago, the American Heart Association released a RDV for sugar for the first time. The statement the AHA…

My partner is tiny! 125-130 lbs, at 5'8"? (BMI of 19.5 compared to my 27.5) When I first met him, I wasn't initially attracted to him because of that. But I got over it really quickly, haha, and he was attracted to me before we'd even been introduced. Sometimes I get shy about my body or he gets shy about his, but mostly:…

I'm 19, in a different state as my folks, going to university. I'm just trying to continue with my vegetarian/vegan diet, but pay way more attention to portion sizes. I have a hard time knowing when I'm hungry and when I'm full, so the calorie counter is really exciting for me.

Did Day One just now: 2 sets of 25 reps. I never do squats and didn't know if I was doing them low enough because I couldn't feel anything .. until about the 40th rep. This will be a challenge, haha!

I eat stirfrys (with ever-changing ingredients, due to what's on sale/in season) almost every night. My favorite raw vegetable entree is zuccini spaghetti: take a vegetable peeler, finely slice the zuccini lengthwise into ribbons, chop some tomatoe/spinach/broccoli to mix in, and serve under pesto.

I've been using them, lately, to try to get in more leafy veg (as opposed to "meaty" veg, like broccoli, bok choy, beets, which I have no problem fitting in). -1 banana -4 strawberries or other berry -lots of spinach or arugula (1-2 cups) -ice + water is extremely tasty (The spinach flavor disappears and the arugula gives…

The cost of a vegan diet ... is culturally painted as expensive, but definitely doesn't have to be. As your grocery habits change, you will see pretty quickly what you can afford, what you want to splurge on, what you'll never buy, haha. I've spent ~$9/day on food so far in 2013, which is higher than I'd like, but I also…

It's not high at all. If you look at the back of food labels, the percents of nutrients (like, xxx mg sodium ... yy% daily recommended sodium intake) are normally based on an 1800-2000 daily caloric intake, for a person of average weight and activity. Everybody's body needs a minimum amount of calories to function every…
