BMR is the number of calories you basic body functions would use up if you did absolutely nothing, except lying still, for 24 hours. Calories Burned From Normal Activity is the amount of calories you use on a typical day when you don't spend all day in bed :) Net calories are what you should be aiming to consume to create…

I love this - it pretty much ties in with what I have worked out myself :)

Mostly gym, but occasionally I will do a bit of Wii Zumba or Just Dance, and I like walking too

I am struggling, I will admit. I'm working to my own pace, trying a slow jog and building up distance - when I am comfortable running a reasonable distance, then I will start doing interval training to build up my speed

That's reminding me of an episode of Doctor Who!

This is just a personal opinion, but to me, it's piffle! Using the phrase "get rid of" is not going to help me, erm, dispose of my excess weight any quicker. I want to lose it, forever.

I view my calories on a weekly basis. I'm aiming for 2lb per week loss, so over the course of a week, I want to have eaten 7,000 calories less than I use up through normal daily activity (sitting on my backside in front of a PC!) and exercise. That means, if I eat a little more than I should one day, I either do a few more…

Zumba is good, because it has moves that will provide some toning as well as calorie burn. For pure calorie burn, the Just Dance games are good - such a laugh that it doesn't feel like you are exercising, and the time flies by!

You wouldn't need to "burn off" a late meal, though, if you have allowed for it in your calories for the day? I'm losing weight, though I regularly eat after 8pm - 10pm is quite a usual time for me! I'm losing because the total calories consumed for the day, including the ones eaten after 8, are within my limit for the day.

I use this one http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/9279526/Trail/searchtext%3ETARGET+FINTESS.htm £29.99 It records calories, allows to set a target heart rate zone, has several different modes for different types of exercise, it's good value for money and seems quite accurate. I've logged the calories it says…

I've just entered the Gloucester Race, on 17th June.

A weight loss of 2lb per week is achievable, so yes, 31lb in four months can be done :)

It's the one that works for you. Personally, I don't agree with low carb, it's not something that works for me. The simple principle is to lose weight you need to eat fewer calories than you burn. How you fit that in to your life is a matter of personal preference.
-
I was actually reading something about this the other day; the time you eat food does not have any significant impact on weightloss. The myth that you shouldn't eat late/no carbs after 5pm arises bacause if we leave it too late, we have a tendency o snack on high carb food such as biscuits. Provided you can avoid that trap…

I'm feeling really fired…

This Southern Softy is 1.625m tall and will post her weight on her normal Saturday weigh-in day. Have been a bad girl recently, weight loss has stalled for two weeks, so hopefully this will get me back on track
-
Yay! I got a name-check!! Ooh, I feel all motivated now, I can't let my fellow Southern Softies down :) Just measured myself, I've lost 2" off my waist since 27th Jan, and 1" from my chest. It's going, slowly but surely! :)

I agree with that attitude, but treats should be in moderation. A chocolate bar a day is not something I would advise, one every now and then is OK.
-
Morning all! Been a bad girl and not come on to the board recently :embarassed: I was kind of sulking after putting in loads of effort, exercising, eating well, etc, and putting on 1/2lb! Then I found out that the body retains water when reparing muscles, so upping my exercise intensity had probably caused my apparent…

Totally agree. I think it is more important to teach a child the value of a balanced diet, and and that includes the odd treat every now and then.

Having been through the program on a treadmill, I'm restarting outside, did week 1 day 2 this morning.

Hello again! If anyone is interested, I maintain a blog on Wordpress about my weightloss journey. http://elliemo1.wordpress.com/

I have a vegetable soup murmuring away in my slow cooker at the moment; carrot, parsnip, onion, celery, and potato, with a bit of mustard, tomato puree and cumin, and some pearl barley.

Would it be cheating to say I'd join in, when I've already lost 5.5 lbs this month?! :) *smug* lol
