  • You're not supposed to burn ALL your calories. MFP gives you an estimate of the calories you burn just in your daily life PLUS the deficit you want to lose a pound a week - or whatever. If you have a calorie allowance of 1, 500 per day, for example, MFP assumes you burn 2, 000 calories in a day and have built in the weight…
  • Love all these ideas! And breakfast for dinner is officially going to be my new "came home from work late comfort meal" instead of my old stand-by - grilled cheese and a beer.
  • Thanks for sharing! I think I will invest in a food scale. My photo is from last week so yeah, hopefully accurate. I usually am pretty active, but I love cheese and dessert and cooking new recipes so sometimes I find it hard to strike a balance. With MFP I'm trying to lose some weight, yes, but I'm also trying to…
  • Ok, I changed it. Now I've got an extra 200 calories to play with every day, which will actually make a huge difference.
  • If I can go to the grocery store on my way home from work I love grabbing a sole and frying it in olive oil and butter (I know... I know.... not the healthiest choice, but sooooo good and not THAT terrible for you). Maybe I should try out more fish recipes. I pretty much only eat beans in soups. I should try making more of…
  • I will consider this. The only thing is, I read that people tend to underreport calories so I wanted to give myself a stricter goal just in case I was accidentally leaving things out.
  • This was a great read. I think part of my problem as well is that keeping under 1, 200 calories has turned me into a complete cardio queen and I may be losing muscle mass in my effort to lose weight. Food for thought.
  • Hey, not to be weird but I took a peek at your food diary and I noticed you eat a fair bit of pre-prepared food. While these meals can be low calorie, they tend to be higher in sugars and salts. I think the next step is preparing your own food. You'd be shocked at the difference when you actually get to see what's going…
  • I'm in!
  • First of all, congratulations om challenging yourself physically and taking a chance by going to an exercise class - they are not easy. I've been exercising since I was 14 and still find those classes really hard. No matter how fit I am, I always seem to be the only one who is gasping for her water 5 minutes into the…
  • I love this, it's a great story and a great example of how, yeah, sometimes health is actually about more than how you look. I hope you are doing alright after that crash.
  • So... what I'm getting from this is that I should have moderate deficits (I'm at 1,200 calories for MFP because I'm short and work a desk job, I'm assuming this is ok?) and work to maintain muscle through strength training and a protein rich diet. Is that what anyone else is taking away from this?
  • I am also horrible at this: but I would be happy to add you as an example of what not to do. Kidding.... well... sort of...
  • No, I don't really think I will ever be totally happy. Most of the time, I feel pretty good, but on other days I just weep to look at myself. So I'm trying not to fixate. I'm trying to remind myself that my body is strong and healthy and my boyfriend is down with it. I'm trying to stay happy and enjoy fitness so those…
  • I have a big butt, but it's also round and perky so I deal with it.
  • "Had I put in the effort I could be at my goal weight right now." I get this feeling all the time. I feel like all the excuses I've made are so pointless, and I wish I had just gutted up for a few damn months.
  • First of all: you're still watching Survivor? That is very retro. Second: The last time I watched Survivor, which was the Australia one back when I was in Middle School, I noticed that everyone loses weight on the show, but then at the finale they've all GAINED a bunch of weight. So yes, their bodies went into starvation…
  • I may be the only person in the world who feels this way, but personally, I think you should run as fast as you want and then walk when you get tired. I never thought I liked running because I found my consistent pace, a slow jog, really boring. Then one day I just decided to stop trying to run the whole time and focus on…
  • Hi, I'm 25, just signed up today... so....add me? I guess? You'll have to tell me how this works. Basically, I'm 5"3, mildly athletic, but I've gained about 15 pounds over the last year working at a stressful, sedentary job with lots of overtime. When I wasn't working my interests include cooking, eating, drinking,…
