I'm going to preface this by saying that I'm 5'1" and so every pound gained or lost is unfortunately really noticeable on my short, small-boned frame. Because you are taller than me, your range will be larger (as TavistockToad said, 5ish lbs is a good range). My personal range is about 3 pounds. In my first few weeks of…

When I was doing yoga regularly, I found that it did help, in the long term-- I think because I became stronger and more flexible. In the short term, however, if you do back bends as part of it, that will result in more back pain. I've been inconsistent with yoga for a while and if I do go, I notice my back hurting more…

Ooh, Posting to follow. I am trying to get up the guts to start something like this.

Water. If I want something flavored, I would go for unembellished (no sugar or milk) teas. Kukicha Twig tea (a toasted, low-caffeine Japanese tea) is especially good all by itself. Also, teas made from single or multiple herbs can be delicious. Lemon balm is yummy, as are red clover flowers (though red clover is actually…

^^ This is what I was going to suggest, especially if it tends to be a potluck type thing anyway. If you brought your own personal package of food and didn't share, that would indeed be rude, at least it would be considered so among everyone I know.

I would count it, but might not eat back quite all the calories.

The boyfriend sounds like he had attitude problems!!! UGH! But to this reply, I want to say that my fiance is 6'0", 146 pounds, and he is VERY strong, muscular, and active. He's just a very slim man. So thin guys are not necessarily too weak to open a pickle jar.

Well, for your first question, the way to not lose any weight is to make sure you eat enough to maintain your weight and take into account the massive amount of exercise you do in your job. I don't think you'd lose very much muscle, if any, from not having rest days, as long as you are eating an appropriate amount (which…

Sounds a lot like what I've been thinking about! You even look very much like how I look, at 5'1" 103-104 lbs. I similarly have a bit more "squish" in places than I would ideally prefer, but I got down to 102 in the first 3 weeks of trying to maintain, as my maintenance calories are higher than MFP's estimate. At that…

Thank you both! All great suggestions. I think part of the reason I haven't been terribly motivated to work on strength training is because I know with the weights I have, I won't really be able to progress much in the program I was using. I will look into the bodyweight training stuff, and also an adjustable kettlebell! I…

I almost always eat breakfast. I didn't used to when I was younger (in college) and didn't need to be "on" right away in the morning, but since I've had jobs, I always eat breakfast since I don't function well at work if I don't eat something. My breakfasts are not that big, usually from 200-400 calories, since I don't…

Well, it depends on your frame size. My mother is your height, but has a very very small frame (size XS/0) and was around 109 lbs for most of her adult life, no matter what she did or how much food she ate (she eats lots and has never had eating issues). She looked very good at that size and was very healthy. Now that…

What you're doing sounds perfect! Don't worry about what others are doing-- each person has a unique situation and the people you're paying attention to may be in a different stage of recovery, or they may be a different size than you, etc. etc. They may be having trouble with their recovery, too; I see that a lot on…

General advice: Be honest with yourself. Don't get discouraged, just be persistent and patient! MFP-specific advice: Log everything-- all food and exercise-- as accurately and *honestly* as you are capable of doing. That is the only way you'll accumulate the information (data) you need to figure out what works and what…

Yes, you can eat the 300 exercise calories back. That will mean, on a day you already at 1200 and ate the 300 exercise calories too, you will have eaten 1200 calories NET, rather than 900, which is what would happen if you didn't eat back your exercise calories, and that low of an intake is not good for you. :) Edited for…

I usually only delete people if they aren't active for 2 weeks or more. I have a lot of MFP friends so there's no point in hanging on to people who aren't dedicated, at least that's how I look at it. I do occasionally have to delete people because they are annoyingly advocating a fitness company they work for. The one I…

I had the exact same problem when I was losing weight (I'm maintaining now). Try eating a higher-protein and lower-carb breakfast. You're right that carbs often create a craving for sugar and more carbs and MORE CARBS!!! I found that having Greek yogurt with a serving of plain whey protein, and some unsweetened…

I use it for everything I bake! Which can be healthy stuff. I like to use it to make bread. I think you can get meat grinder attachments or juicer attachments for them, too.

I think that is a pretty common thing that happens. It is completely normal! You need all the calories your body is craving to heal itself. You won't gain too much weight, don't worry! (Though I know that is probably extremely hard for you to do). Have a look at the site Your Eatopia. It is an amazing and very informative…

I have very high arches and stiff little feet. The best shoe brand for me is Salomon. They are expensive but worth every penny (says the graduate student who can only work part-time. . . that's how much I like the shoes). I had not encountered shoes that didn't make my feet hurt until I tried Salomon trail-running shoes.

It sounds to me like this is stuff that time will help heal-- and it does sound like you need to leave the country you're living in, too. I know how the social worries and loneliness is. I went through that in college. It is very hard, and it scarred me (sometimes the emotional patterns I developed in that stage of my life…

I'm 5'1", started at around 115-120, now I'm at 103 (2 lbs lower than my goal weight, 105, at which I look and feel good. . . trying to get back up there after losing weight during the first month of trying to maintain). While I didn't lose 30 pounds, I think the same principles apply! I maintained a pretty steady caloric…

This ^^ is complete misinformation. This person is dangerously wrong. The only thing correct in that post is that about 3500 calories (approximately)=1 pound of fat. First, and most importantly, read and take into consideration this excellent post, and the threads the OP there links to:…

As you guessed. . . I think you should, and could, eat a bunch more. I understand how hard that is psychologically, as I have begun feeling the hormonal effects of being a bit too thin myself. I have not lost my period but I can see how if I didn't try to gain a couple pounds right away, I might as it was abnormally short…

I'm 5'1", and my goal weight is 105. I unfortunately have lost more than that while trying to maintain, and I think at 102 I'm too thin (my bones are too close to my skin in places for my liking, plus my hormones have begun to change in ways I am pretty sure are connected to being too thin). I do still have a bit of tummy…

I don't think 155 lbs is too light for someone your height, by any means. My fiance is 6' tall and 145 at the moment, and I think he looks pretty good like that (he's a naturally slim, wiry guy but does have muscles). An ex boyfriend of mine was your height and I think around 135-- he was skinny but also had muscles from a…

Sounds like she has a case of the baaaad attitude, then. Sorry you have to work with her. :frown: I would take that type of comment as being very rude and hurtful, too. Ugh!

I actually have been having a similar problem. I've been following MFP's maintenance recommendation for me (1610 cals/day) for about a month now and lost 3 more pounds!!! I've heard from others that their maintenance was 200-300 calories over the MFP recommendation, so try upping yours a couple hundred calories a day. I'm…

I wondered about that after I posted. Sorry. :/ I understand!

Oh, and whey protein!
