  • Feel free to add me if you like. I am the woman who "drank back" her exercise calories in wine.
  • I know it works for some people. My mother-in-law is a compulsive snacker, so having 6 mini-meals helps her keep that right in check. Personally I can't imagine anything worse.I hate the idea of spending a day eating, but as everyone else has said, that's just my preference.
  • I'll add you- metalheads need to stick together! I like a huge range of hard rock and metal- just waiting for my Download tickets to come through. Oh, and please don't be put of by the My Little Pony profile pic...
  • I ached like hell when I got up this morning, but I was surprised how quickly the aches went away when I started today. I think I did a lot better today because I knew what to expect- better form definitely gave me better stamina. The cardio is still the worst for me. I can honestly say I was nearly in tears doing the jump…
  • I've been doing martial arts for years and I'm still fat. A lot of martial arts focus on economy of movement, so you're literally learning how to use the least amount of calories possible. Fight conditioning exercises though... that will burn calories
  • This was why I felt I had to say that ovarian cysts do not equal PCOS- the results you describe from your tests would suggest you don't have PCOS so you really shouldn't worry about it. I don't really know much about the medication you feel is responsible, so I can't comment, but one thing I would suggest is that you might…
  • I just wanted to pitch in that having ovarian cysts is not the same as PCOS. The vast majority of women will have ovarian cysts at some point- it is primarily diagnosed by the androgen disorder rather than the appearance of cysts. It could be that the cyst you needed to have removed was just that on it's own so don't worry…
  • My brother had a blood pressure scare several years ago and because our dad died young of a heart attack, we both decided we would take our diets in hand with regards to salt. A lot of recipes use salt, but don't really need it. Try using other herbs and flavourings instead and only add salt if you find it makes a…
  • Well, I feel better for a quick shower and several very large glasses of water! Fingers crossed tomorrow will be less horrible!
  • Oh I literally feel physically sick- I was still catching my breath when I posted. I'm extremely sedentary, lazy and generally unfit. This is probably the first round of proper cardio exercise that I've done in the past 8 years. The strength training was fine for me because I am naturally muscular and do yoga, but the…
  • I've literally just finished my first day. Feeling pretty sick... actually....
  • Death to carbs! Sugar is the enemy! I actually find that most of those foods make me feel full for ages- even just a few small squares of sugary milk chocolate can keep me feeling satisfied for hours, and Chinese food fills me the same way any other type of food does. Weird.
  • I usually just do whatever over the weekends. The main difference is that I will usually have more alcohol and that we often eat out. I usually come in at between 2500 and 3000 calories. This weekend, however, will be the first time we have friends over while I'm counting calories. When I say "have friends over" I mean we…
  • I have mentioned this before, but until I joined MFP and actually tracked my carb intake, I always thought I ate far too much- I love bread, pasta and rice and eat at least one of those every day, usually more. In actuality though, my carb intake is very reasonable and in light of that, I eat whatever bread I like. Give me…

  • It's true that the fresher it is, the less "fishy" the taste and smell. I used to hate all fish when I was little, but I got first into salmon, and then went from there. I particularly like pollock, which is mild, but my favourite is River Cobbler, which is Vietnamese catfish. It's cheap and has a substantial texture- it…
  • I think it's different for everyone. I've not been going long, so I need to log regularly. I've done weight loss with a manual food diary before, and found that as I became more aware of my intake, I needed to log less- I just did it automatically. At the moment, I often don't log in over Saturday and Sunday- I just fill…

  • I have to add that I admire you for this- you're doing veganism safely and sensibly with research, which many would-be-vegans don't do. You've also told us about your beliefs without being preachy.
  • I'm going to be honest with you- I had an ex-boyfriend who's entire family were gluten-free vegans except him (vegetarian) and his dad (omnivore). Not only was his sister one of the most boring people imaginable, because she had absolutely nothing to talk about except being vegan, but they were some of the unhealthiest…
  • Nope. I use exercise calories as flexibility, rather than eating them back, because I do low impact exercise and don't burn very many. However, I do log every treat I have, regardless.
  • I have to admit that this is why I've never gone to classes. When I was at the height of my yoga practice (about 7 years ago, before a major injury) my friend and I were discussing our progress, as she attended regular classes. When she saw how much more "advanced" I was, she was quite upset and got very catty about it-…
  • There really isn't beginners yoga. All yoga positions are the same, you just improve with time and at your own pace- for example, if you do a forward bend but can't touch your toes, that's absolutely fine; you will improve as you go along. The first time you get your chin on your shins is quite satisfying  Any class…
  • I've read several times that low-fat dairy can actually help you to lose weight. I have no idea if its true, but there are plenty of successful dieters who consume plenty of dairy.

  • One thing I would say from seeing your diary most days as we're friends, is that you often don't net 1200 calories- you'll often eat just under 1200 calories, but will have burned off 500 or more in exercise- and it's always really energetic exercise! I do sometimes look at your day and think "there is no way I could do…

  • My mother in law and sister in law have been doing Slimming World, which is very similar to WW. One of my male friends also did it, and the thing I really cannot stand hearing is "it's free". Their mentality (especially my mother in law's) is to eat as much as possible of free foods, whether they want it or not.…
  • Words cannot express the high approval rating I give the Bunny Burger
  • I've had my infrared foot spa for ages- it's just a way of keeping the water warm. Edited to add why: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Infrared#Heating
  • You are just epic
  • I used to get this a lot as a kid, and my dad would always give me a tomato in half with loads of salt on it. Lack of sodium sometimes causes cramp, especially in extremities.
  • That may be true, but if I knew how to add pictures, I would add that picture of the dude rocketing down a set of stairs on a piece of cardboard holding a beer, with the caption "alcohol- because no great story starts with a salad".
  • This surprises me actually. I've double checked all of my common ingredients/foods and the database has always been right on the money.
