  • I have noticed that at the end of my spinning class, some people (especially the guys) will literally have a pool of liquid around them on the floor because they are sweating so much. Others, like me, rarely sweat very much visibly. We are all working really hard so I think it must be individual differences.
  • Thanks for the challenge. It was a gorgeous day after about two months of rain so in the morning I walked in the sunshine for an hour with my husband. In the afternoon I worked in the garden for two hours. It was the first day I've been out in the yard since last fall so it felt pretty strenuous. Kinda forgot about trying…
  • You can view some people's food diaries. You click on their name and it brings you to their profile. Then if their food diary is open you should be able to click on it and look at it. To set yours to be public you go to My Home and then to Settings. Click on it and down near the bottom you will find the settings for your…
  • I would like to join you in this challenge. Hoping to have a skinny Saturday and show some progress on the scale!
  • My fave is John McCann Steel Cut Oatmeal. My husband gets up early to make it, and it's soft but kind of chewy and nutty at the same time. I have it with cinnamon, Splenda and a few pie cherries (I keep them in the freezer and thaw as needed). Very filling at about 150 calories per serving.
  • I love Greek Gods yogurt, especially the honey flavor. They also make a fig and a pomegranate flavor. It's made in Seattle and I'm not sure how widely available it is. It's really good with fruit and a little bit of granola. I also use it in cooking quite a bit, both the nonfat and the full fat. I use it in place of…
  • Maybe it's time to make new friends. This is one of the things I like about going to the gym. Most of the people there are really motivated to get fit and get moving. They are doing things like training for marathons and organizing walkathons for charity. Even if I'm not quite up to some of those activities, I feel it's a…
  • Yes, I love it too. I have never found entering my calories and exercise so easy and enjoyable.
  • Shrimp salad with feta cheese and watercress tossed with a vinaigrette dressing. I have some marinated flank steak in the refrigerator and my husband can have some of that in addition to the shrimp salad if he gets too hungry. I found that my local grocery store has the tiny Pacific Shrimp, already cooked and peeled, in…
  • Way to go! I think this is the validation we are all looking for. We may know we've lost a few pounds or a half-inch around our waist. But it's not quite real until someone comes up and spontaneously asks if you've lost weight.
  • Yours is public. And congratulations on how well you are doing!
  • I just made mine public. Now I just have to figure out how to look at other people's.
  • Mainly I just don't have anything in the house that I would be tempted to overindulge in. No cookies, candy, chocolate, crackers, chips, ice cream or butter. I do have some bread in the house but keep it in the freezer so that I have to take the time to thaw it in the microwave before I can eat it. I also keep Nature…
  • Filet mignon is one of the leaner cuts of beef -- 350 calories in a 6-ounce serving (that could be his serving and you could probably get by with less). You could make a mushroom sauce with red wine or balsamic vinegar to go with it.
  • Yes, I am hoping to lose at least 30 pounds by the end of the summer and would love to join this group. My name is Ann, I'm 64 and retired. I recently celebrated my 40th anniversary and realized how much weight I have gained over the years. I was thin in my 20s but started putting on extra poundage in my 30s and 40s. Now…
  • Grocery shopping tips 1. Don't go to the store hungry. Have an apple or a cup of soup before you go. You will definitely buy more and and buy more unhealthy food if you are hungry while shopping. 2. Make a list before you go. Plan out all your meals, including snacks, in advance. Then make a list of the things you will…
  • I try to do at least 60 minutes a day. Today I did my spinning class for 60 minutes and later went for a walk with my husband for 30 minutes. On days when I'm not taking a class at the gym I usually spend a half-hour on the treadmill and a half-hour on the elliptical machine followed by a half-hour of weightlifting. On…
  • Count me in. I have been trying for 60 or more minutes of exercise a day and managed it most days in January. The five pounds a month is a lot tougher for me, but worth a try.
  • My favorite thing to get when I am out and about and get hungry is a double tall skinny Cinnamon Dolce Latte from Starbucks. It's very creamy and spicy and has only 90 calories. It is usually satisfying enough to tide me over until I can get home and make something healthy. Starbucks also has some tasty panini offerings…
  • Is today the weigh-in for the 5 pounds a month challenge? I'm at 162 today. Goal for February: 157 Goal for March: 152 Goal for April: 147 Goal for May: 142 Goal for June: 137 Goal for July: 132 If I could get down to 132 by July I would be delighted. That would be my ultimate goal weight.
  • I really like this goal and would like to join this group. So far my weight loss has been going very slowly, but it's a great goal. Here's what I am trying to do to make it happen: 1. Exercise every day for at least two hours (swimming, walking, spinning, weightlifting) 2. Eating no more than 1300-1500 calories per day no…
  • Yes, I live here in Washington and have found ways to exercise despite the unpleasant winters. Mainly I go to the gym where I take a spinning class twice a week and work out in the weight room on my own. Many days I walk on the treadmill for a half-hour and go on the elliptical machine for a half-hour (it burns calories…
  • No way. If I ate all the calories this exercise calculator says I can have I would be gaining not losing weight. I try never to have more than 1,300-1,400 calories per day, no matter how much exercise I get.
  • Hi, I'm pretty new here too. I lost about 15 pounds a year ago with a program of exercise (a Body Boot Camp at the gym) and a low-carbohydrate diet. I've kept most of it off but now am starting on a new campaign to get down to my ideal weight. I'm finding it's not easy at age 64. I exercise an hour or more every day…
  • All I can say is I used to be like you. My favorite place to go on vacation was a wine region -- whether it was Napa Valley, Sonoma, Walla Walla, or the Champagne area in France -- I loved them all. I created a mini-wine cellar in a cool part of my house and stocked it with winners of the Wine Spectator ratings. I loved…
  • I absolutely hate weighing myself. The only thing that got me to do it this time was that you can't really set up one of these computer programs like myfitnesspal without having a starting weight and a goal weight. But now I'm glad I did it and I do intend to weigh in at the same time every day. It does get discouraging…
