i make snap judgments about things and people all the time. I try not to, but brains are wired that way. What i don't do- concrete that judgement to the point that it cannot be changed or voice a hurtful opinion about it. if you find something about a person gross and you are not a personal friend of said person to the…

just for today-i will concentrate on staying just a couple of steps ahead rather than trying to strategize for the 6-9 months...

atkins and it's brethren were originally intended for patients so obese they were on the brink of death. it's been around a while- i had a cousin back in the 90's who was doing it and this is after it had escaped into the hands of regular doctors that would hand it off to patients that needed to lose some weight. Still not…

alcohol can make it difficult to stay asleep at night due to blood sugar spikes and dehydration. (took me a long time to learn that.) hot showers are incredibly relaxing as is reading. the lights of computer screens and phone screens can have an effect on falling asleep so unplug if you can and get your room as dark as…

just for today: I'm going to kick at the darkness until it bleeds daylight. and i'll get up and do it again tomorrow. And the next day.

so frustrated and yet hopeful that low fodmap is the answer we're looking for. my husband has been suffering with digestive problems for years now and no one seems to have an answer. i accidentally stumbled upon fodmaps the other day and so many things fit. we tried gluten free for a year and half with mixed results,…

i just found this diet a few days ago. my hubs has been suffering for the last few years with digestive issues and the docs seem to be confounded. he's had cameras up one end and down the other, scans, blood work, the works. nothing. we tried gluten free for a year and a half, which seemed to help a little sometimes, but…

i think there's a lot of good points. Firstly that fat or skinny shaming- it's based on sexual appeal to men. Everyone wants to be called beautiful i guess, but don't let someone else define that for you. second- i love the concept of body acceptance but to me accepting that you are overweight, out of shape and can't do…

when i met my 50ish year old hubs he was outrunning 20 an 30 somethings (and hotter than all of them by miles.) i'll be 36 in a couple of months and i wouldn't go back to my teens or twenties for all the tea in china. age is in your head.

i wish i could tell you it's easy. we've all been there. :) sometimes i give myself a choice. exercise or do something I don't want to. (a chore, or something i've been putting off) sometimes it works. the other times, i give myself a mental slap to the back of the head. "quitcher*****in and put on those trainers." i find…

that's fantastic christy :) you've stuck to running and if it's not a habit now, it will be soon! take care of that foot and good luck on your 5k!!! :)

aaahhh! i do the same thing. *face palm* i manage to catch it before it gets too out of hand- usually within a couple of pounds or so, but still irritaing. i know this sounds silly but it seems to work for me. make sure your pants and skirts are fitted. i know i've been hitting the snacks a little too hard when my new…

That's fantastic!!! I think I'm solidly stuck in a medium for all time. Which is ok. I will wear a small vicariously through you!!! Joining you in a victory dance!!!!

You are doing AMAZING. Seriously you are inspirational. You got me back into the pool and I bought a doorway pull up bar. I'm going to be ready for the aerial class if it kills me. Keep it up we are all rooting for you!!!

Don't worry about the scale so much right now. (Holy cow that was kayaking trip! Nice job!) stick a pin in it but just use it to see which way you are trending. Get yourself a measuring tape and try on some if your clothes- one that used to be snug but you could wear- and see how it fits. Take pics and store them.…

Do y'all do cardio at all? I have been but I'm getting less benefit from it as I go along. I was thinking of just swimming or rowing a couple of days a week and strength training the other days. There's a pull up machine at the gym and I've been using it off and on- do y'all find that machine helpful at all or not?

Nicotine suppresses appetite so now you're hungry. :) I had the same problem. It does get better I swear it does. I quit a year ago and I feel so freaking good these days it's crazy. Find some low cal high density foods like baby carrots or celery or something to munch when your stomach starts growling and drink plenty of…

Fantastic- thanks for that!! I've been kind of working on the pull ups (I'm on negatives now-my whole upper back is sore) but I never thought about the grip. Food for thought and a great place to start.

i posted a pic from about a year ago when i decided to start losing weight. (it's in my photos. beware- it's an undie shot.) i took another yesterday morning, i figured it's been a while. i haven't really lost much since around february maybe, and i guess it may not be possible i don't know. but i have changed my shape a…

i usually get them about 10 or 15 minutes in. i usually notice when a really kicka** song comes on. you get a rush and it just feels like you could go on forever. sometimes i would stay on a few extra minutes just to ride the wave. :) i think that's why i had such a hard time cutting my cardio time or swimming instead- i…

i had the same problem with the zumba workouts. i put a pair of old thin socks over my shoes- it gives you just enough slip so your shoes dont catch on the carpet. go with the trouser sock kind though- athletic socks have a little too much friction and you really just need to be able to slip them over the front half of…

I'm going to say maybe around 9/1 let's do measurements again and a big weigh in. (i'll post it in the weekly challenge so you don't forget.) as soon as i can get my computer working at home i'll post up some pics of before and afters. (i think it's unplugged. oh god please just let it be unplugged...) a lot of them are in…

that's fantastic!!!! i love it when that happens. :) they are going to be floored when they see how far you've come.

omg that looks good. that's fabulous- i usually roast a chicken a couple of times a month and i was getting a little bored. (hubby keeps complaining that he's growing feathers.)

i agree with that. a lot of people kind of freak out when they start doing something like this because 1. it's new 2. there's a lot to learn. 3. it's a change in lifestyle for most people and people generally don't deal with change very well. unless you're eating something you have allergies or sensitivites to, the food…

Thought I'd share an nsv for today. All of my gym pants, you the spandex stretchy clingy type of pants, I noticed today that every single pair is kinda big now where they used to not be. Not in any dander of falling off randomly. I had some work pants that I had to get rid of for that reason a few months back. I almost…

I could eat a mountain of clif bars. And larabars. Omg. Larabars. So deceptively caloric, but If you are really needing a little sugar pick me up, they are heavenly. So are lunabars and kind bars. It's Kind of like crystal lite and mio and Gatorade etc. grown up versions of kids food. :) I started getting SF Hawaiian punch…

Really for GF, just dump the pasta and breads. If you really must have it, there are Gf varieties. They are not the same (the bread is drier but tasty) but they still rate good. Just different really. Corn tortillas (mission is certified GF and doesn't jack up their price for it) are actually pretty good and toast really…

i'm a planner. i have a few staple dishes that i use over and over again just kind of changing the basics. like for breakfast i have fruit cheese and cold cuts. or fruit nuts and hard boiled egg. or fruit nuts and cold cuts. or a throw together omelette- plastic container with 2 eggs, some veggies, spices microwave for 2…
