Truth. You have to give to receive.

Today's lift session is postponed--my son had abdominal pains last night that seemed fairly severe, so we brought him to the ER and were there until 1 a.m. in the morning. Thankfully, he is fine (constipation due to traveling for soccer, not eating enough fiber, etc.) However, they gave him a little bit of pain medication…

I'm getting ads for luxury consignment services. Oooh la la--thank you retargeting advertising platforms for thinking I'm swanky, but in the "gently loved" sense.

A 5-lb bag of sugarless gummy bears makes a great potluck item for a Super Bowel party (see comments for background): http://www.amazon.com/Haribo-Gummy-Candy-Sugarless-5-Pound/dp/B000EVQWKC/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1391101003&sr=8-1&keywords=haribo+gummy+candy+sugarless+gummy+bears+5-pound+bag Share the joy of this…

Congrats! The most important trait that I see people doing to successfully maintain is to continue to have fitness goals (e.g., marathon training, strength building), and to eat to support those goals. It sounds so cliche, but it is truly a lifestyle change as opposed to reaching a finite "goal."

If you do get plates from Craigslist or garage sales--check them for chips, rust, cracks, etc. I got iron splinters at the beginning! I have a basic squat rack, and I think a couple of others have squat stands. If you go this route, you would want to use something to take the place of the safety pins on power cages--my…

Even though you didn't learn the mechanics of the basic lifts, it sounds like he was doing some baseline strength and/or form testing, so I agree that it doesn't seem like a waste of time--if your knee positioning isn't right, then the further along you progress you could risk injury. The exercise where he had you lie…

I have quite a few friends that like the videos on Fitness Blender: www.fitnessblender.com/

Welcome newcomers! So I got that lower back "twinge" thing on my 4th set of bench presses on my workout just now, and because I didn't want to risk it, I deloaded down 10 lbs and did an additional set of 5. We will see how it feels tomorrow, but I did my squats afterwards and made sure to stabilize everything carefully and…

Lifting as heavy as I possibly can (I'm one of "those" Stronglifts people :blushing:).

I think the OP is actually asking for a revision of a STUFFED blueberry french toast casserole (this one in particular--which I've actually made): http://allrecipes.com/recipe/overnight-blueberry-french-toast/ Hence, the cream cheese and cubed bread.

I don't think your current calorie level will allow you to sustain the energy you'll need for Tae Bo (or any other program for that matter). A couple of things: -As you start to exercise more, your weight may go up (due to water retention, glycogen storage--other things). -As you start to eat more, your weight may also go…

I just say something like "Cool! I didn't know that--I'll keep that in mind." I DO think that most people are just wanting to be helpful and for the most part it is coming from a good place. Heck, I'm tempted many times to preach on and on about the stuff that I like. If they continue to talk, I try and change the subject…

Great post--and you are also a very good writer as well!

I found that it also helps to make time/make fitness a priority when you find an activity that you like doing. I only stuck to running for years, but found other things that motivate me enough to get up in the morning before everyone else in my house is awake.

I would also start with goblet squats to help with hip mobility, but I am not sure I would continue squatting in the Smith machine due to learned bad technique. I ended up getting a squat rack for home--you will also use it for OHPs and depending on what you get could also use for bench (you would need to make sure it has…

Yes--we have lots of fun in the group. :flowerforyou: I can't speak to whether or not high reps of low weights will shape your glutes, but I can tell you from experience that heavy weights and low reps WILL--and furthermore the stabilization of the heavy weights will engage your core. FYI, I am a similar build (5'1" and…

Taking a break from a busy workday for yesterday's numbers: Squats: 115 (5x5) OHPs: 52 (5x5) Deadlifts: 137 (1x5) My DLs are starting to feel heavy and my grip was starting to fail, but I'm wondering if part of it had to do with not resting/recovery after my squats. One thing's for sure--I am HUNGRY today and trying…

-hair elastics -one or two hairbands -workout clothes (it's my company's fitness center) -fractionals -headphones -shoes -makeup for post-lift refreshing

I would agree with Stef--home equipment might be a good idea if you enjoy lifting but find the "going to" part difficult. For me, it was partially being an introvert and being self-conscious that made going to my company's weight room a bit intimidating, but I viewed it as a challenge to overcome. Now my biggest challenge…

B day for me (5x5 for squats and OHP/1x5 DL): Squats: 110 lbs OHPs: 50 lbs DL: 135 lbs I was surprised that I finished all three because I didn't sleep that well last night and had a busy workday. I was prepared for some failure but now I know I can move up! Counting on a good night's sleep (knock on wood).

Lol--what was his response? I don't know what it is--maybe all of the avatar pictures of body parts, less clothing, people posting while pre-workout is kicking in--but there is a higher level of flirting, etc. Sometimes it's hard to tell what of it is innocent vs. what's not. Mutual lady lifter flirting is always welcome,…

It rubs the lotion on its skin--it does this whenever it's told.

I was actually surprised when I watched the video--the guy is spot on (irrespective of his use of "guilty/not guilty" when referring to a civil/non-criminal claim ) in terms of the ease of filing a claim in California as well as the fact that a simple complaint does NOT mean that Quest did in fact misrepresent its…

If you are buying new plates, this isn't going to be a problem--but if you get some off of Craigslist, etc.--inspect them up close for chips/spurs. I have had iron splinters from time to time. Not super-fun.

Tagging this to have it in my timeline. Also, it's a great philosophy outside of just fitness--it reminded me of one of my friends, who is now in Philly with her 8 year old son while he goes through chemo (he has neuroblastoma). Previously, she had breast cancer. She makes choices all the time--most notably she makes the…

I was the only woman in a full weight room yesterday, so I can sympathize! I had to turn up the volume in my earbuds quite a few times. Kudos to you for working through all of the noise, particularly on your first go at it! I was also scared of deadlifts, but now I love them and they are my favorite lift. I watched video…

Thanks, Lydia! It helped that some of the bros were doing push-ups right behind the rack. I didn't want my butt in their face for too long, so I was motivated to finish.:blushing:

AABru--bummer about your wrist. Hope you get back at it soon! hwillmott: I deloaded on my squats to work on form, and while it was frustrating I am glad that I did it! Note to self: never go to lift at 11 a.m. at your company's fitness center/gym. Holy pre-workout--it was like Bro Day up in there. Talk about chest day en…

I feel very privileged to have been able to follow the tail end of your journey, and can't wait to hear about all the amazing things you are going to do with your new knees, sis!
