I'm halfway through my third round right now, although I'm modifying the schedule some and doing T25 Gamma one day Insanity the next and only five days a week. The sixth day I do a "fun" activity like hike or go skiing now that winter is here. The seventh I rest. I find that's a lot easier on my knees. That's the only…

UnderArmour or similar baselayers are great. They're a bit expensive but they last and keep you really warm. Merino wool tights work as well or better but are very pricey. Merino wool socks from Costco, four pair for $12. Can't beat them. They're too war for summer hiking but great for winter walking and skiing. They also…

I started hiking and walking for fitness and found that I love hiking so much that now I work out to hike better, farther and longer. Now we backpack overnight frequently, we did a 120 mile trip in Yellowstone\Grand Teton earlier this year, and I'm planning on hiking the Colorado Trail in the next year or two for a…

Walk faster. Body heat will keep you warm. If it's really bad outside you can walk the mall. That's kind of boring but it works.

My favorite single video is speed 3.0 in T25. It's fun and you sweat a lot.

I don't eat on lunch and go walk for an hour instead. I just eat while I'm working for food during the day, a small snack every couple of hours or so. Plus I work out when I get home.

I gain a few pounds whenever I have a big run, but I think that's because I don't run often and it causes soreness and water retention. It always goes away in a few days. Sounds like you're experiencing something similar.

I only eat back partial calories when I'm trying to lose weight. Basically I put in all workouts as walking because I'm pretty sure MFP overestimates on pretty much all other forms of exercise. Then I eat back only that amount leaving any extra calories I didn't account for as a bonus. I lost 95 lbs doing that.

Can't wait for ski season to open up. Got my pass and I'm ready to go. Now we just need some snow. I started doing Insanity again over the last few weeks mainly to prepare for the season. It's so lower body, core and cardio focused that it should be helpful.

Gaia GPS will do that, but it may be overkill. You can load street and topographic maps into the phone and then you won't need a signal. I use it all the time for hiking, which is it's intended use, but it would work fine for walks in areas with bad coverage.

If you time yourself on a known distance walk you can judge how fast you walk and then go by time on walks that you aren't sure of the distance. There's a park near my house that has a 1.4 mile loop around the lake. I walk it in about 23 minutes which is about 3.5mph. From there I know how long I need to walk to get the…

Mountain climbing is easily my favorite way to work out. Wish I could do it more than a few times a month, six months out of the year though.

Expect to be out of breath and take way more breaks at first than they allow for in the videos, but that's OK. You'll get better. Also expect some soreness in your joints, particularly your knees. Take extra rest days if that gets too bad. I've completed two rounds and now am alternating between T25 Gamma round and…

Sounds like a doctor is your best choice right now. Without that, I wouldn't do more than walk at a normal pace and watch what you eat.

As long as you keep moving, cold shouldn't be a problem. If I'm hiking or running in freezing temps, I usually still wear just a long sleeve base layer and a single layer on my legs. The only thing I wear additional over warmer weather is gloves and a warm hat. I always carry a warm layer in my pack for when I stop though.…

The same thing happens to me when I start a new routine, go up in weights or have a particularly tough workout. A good example is the weekend before last. I went for a 15 mile hike\trail run (hiked up, ran down) and gained 4 lbs in one day. It came off in about three or four days, which is pretty normal.

When I log exercise, I always put it in as walking, 3mph, no matter what I actually did. That way it's always an underestimate rather than an overestimate. Even if I eat back all the calories listed for walking, I don't eat back what I actually burned. I just found that easier than trying to figure out how many calories I…

When people say that muscle weighs more than fat, I've always assumed they meant weight per unit of volume. I guess some people don't get that implication and take it on face value. Same with converting fat to muscle.. of course that's not what you're actually doing. It's just a figure of speech.

Find an activity or sport you really enjoy doing. Once you have that, even other exercise that helps with your performance of said activity becomes a lot more palatable. For me it was hiking and mountain climbing.

I don't really run very often, just an occasional 5k with the family. Most of my working out is home programs like Insanity or going on big hikes and climbs (12-20 miles each). My last 5k I ran 31 minutes exactly so 10 minute miles. The last mile I ran\walked. I've got another coming up in two weeks and I'm in better shape…

I love backpacking. I wouldn't say that's unusual though, hiking is one of the biggest pastimes in America although only a fraction do overnight trips. Eventually I want to tackle one of the big three trails, probably the Pacific Crest Trail which runs 2700 miles from Mexico to Canada. Takes most people about six months.…

It does get easier, but never easy if that makes sense. I just started my third round a few weeks ago. This time I'm alternating with T25 Gamma though so not pure Insanity. When I first started I had to take breaks during the warmup. Now I can go all the way through the first circuit with no extra breaks besides the ones…

Hiking is my main interest when it comes to things that are active. Eventually I'd like to complete either the Pacific Crest Trail or the Continental Divide Trail in a single attempt. They're both about 2700 miles long and take the average person 6 months to complete.

I agree with starting with walking. I've lost 95lbs overall. While I've had to do a lot more than walk to get in the shape I'm in now, I lost the first 50 lbs doing nothing but tracking food and walking 60 minutes a day (more as time allowed). It gets you used to being active, is low impact and helps center your thoughts.…

I did two rounds back to back starting right after last Thanksgivng. Even with the Holidays and eating about 2300 calories per day I lost ~25 lbs and went from a 34 inch to a 30 inch pant size. More importantly I had great improvements in speed and endurance and it showed big time in this summer's hiking season. We did a…

A night out dancing?

5 miles of walking and T25 Extreme Circuit. Starting my last week of T25 today.

Running. I just don't enjoy it. I'd literally rather do back to back month 2 Insanity workouts than run for 30 minutes.

I could be wrong, but it looks like Long's Peak in Rocky Mountain National Park, looking down the Chasm Lake side. That's quite the hike, 15 miles and 5000 feet up. I haven't done it yet but it's on my list. I have gone to Chasm Lake though.

Just don't follow the calorie guidelines in the nutrition plan and try to eat enough to compensate for all the calories you'll burn in the workouts instead. For me, maintenance intake on Insanity would be about 2500 calories per day.
