  • Agreeing with everyone suggesting zucchini in place of noodles/in addition to noodles. I have a mandoline and turn zucchini into long "noodles" like spaghetti. Toss it into the sauce on the stove for a few minutes to soften a little and serve. Zucchini or yellow squash is also great for adding volume to soups.
  • Joining the list of well wishers and supporters. Everyone's advice so far has been on point, and @VUA21 just laid some great knowledge down for you. You're on the right track because you're here. I'm in a similar place myself, only in my case I used to be a gym rat and I know a lot about nutrition and exercise, I just…
  • I am currently reading the short story collection The Starlit Wood. Very nice. There are plenty of books of reimagined fairy tales out there, but most of these take it a bit further and get a bit weirder with it. Like re-imagining Hansel and Gretel as a near-future sci-fi about the roommate of a drug manufacturer…
  • I love my Charge 2. I was an early adopter and have had FitBits since the first generation, but I've been hanging on to my old FitBit One for years and avoiding the wristband models. I prefer to wear an actual watch, especially at work. The features of the Charge 2 are great though, and now that I'm getting seriously…
  • Excellent, that's great Helen! Looking at what your plans for the weekend are, I will say that it's a little ambitious, so make sure you give yourself time to rest between workouts and don't push too hard at first. I also want to encourage to you to try out strength training (I agree with spartan_d about free weights vs…
  • Your understanding is correct. Fitbit is ostensibly more accurate because its estimate also factors in your heart rate. It is still only an estimate, however, and there's no completely accurate way to measure outside of a fitness lab, so see how your calorie intake and output adds up here on MyFitnessPal corresponding to…
  • Not to beat a dead horse, but I just ran into this problem and so can provide a great example. I just cooked a pot of soup last night. The soup is shredded cabbage and chicken with assorted vegetables, including a tomato sauce base, and chickpeas. When I ran everything through MyFitnessPal, the equivalents that I selected…
  • I was in the same boat, Secretnotes, so what I've done for the past couple of years is to purchase large containers of generic low-sodium vegetable juice and stir in a teaspoon of cayenne pepper when I first open them. Just be sure to shake it well each time you have some.
  • Potassium, along with Magnesium, Calcium, and Sodium, is one of the primary electrolytes in your body. Potassium is an afterthought for most people though, unless you have high blood pressure. In that case, a high potassium, low sodium diet can help improve your blood pressure. Presence of potassium in your blood better…
  • Good cookbooks to check out: How To Cook Everything: Vegetarian Forks Over Knives Veganomicon, Vegan with a Vengeance, Thug Kitchen And, my favorite food blog/website, SeriousEats.com has a ton of recipes. http://www.seriouseats.com/vegetarian
  • Agreeing with contacting your pharmacist. Many medications can have their absorption blocked by too much calcium or fiber, grapefruit juice interacts with many medications, etc. Likewise, there are a lot of medications that say to take with food only because it may cause mild nausea in some people, but are otherwise safe.…
  • Congrats! Keep up the good work. I've always had the best luck focusing on high protein, high fiber myself.
