To keep on topic of the thread, I think one of the reasons why people consider calorie counting "dieting" is because we're using numbers to restrict our eating habits. I've read opinions that counting cals is a mild form of an eating disorder. One of the concerns my husband has is whether or not this is sustainable. It's…

Okay I am not going to judge you here on what MFP told you or what does work for you...but the thing that stood out to me the most was "1200 does it faster." May I ask you and others who do this as well--- why oh why does it have to be faster? There are people eating 900-1100 cals a day because they want to lose the weight…

Because we all know you're actually the fly on the wall? Give us a break.

At best, this kind of pressure will just make it more stressful to the OP. The OP hasn't given us an update so far, and we all responded to the context we were given at the time.
-
It's funny how you describe it as hate on when the OP has clearly stated the parents expect a 2 pound weight loss every week and then criticize the amount of exercise. Because we all know, those things are healthy expectations and are overwhelmingly conducive to weight loss. I'm not particularly sure why you must think the…

This review of data may have already been mentioned, too: http://www.efsa.europa.eu/en/efsajournal/pub/3496.htm The facts are in-- aspartame won't rot anyone's brain. My personal issue with aspartame is the sweetness factor. It's hundreds of times sweeter than regular sugar, and my concern is people become accustomed to…

I'm not sure I'd question whether or not the OP is 18. I was 10 and my mom put me on a diet, so crazy can happen at any age. The best thing to do is to ignore your parents and pay attention to what YOU do. In fact, I'd stop weighing yourself frequently and stick to once every 10 days. Why are they even hounding you about…

I read your post and the word "WHAT!?" literally came out of my mouth. Time to get a new doctor. Every single doctor I've talked to about weight loss has always been way more reasonable about it.

I repeat what others have said by reiterating the "no thanks" part and... You have to remember family and friends for the most part, see this as a change. In short, change scares most people. "If my cousin/sister/daughter/bff actually loses 20+ pounds, what else is going to happen?" is running through their heads. On the…

Wow, what a way for him to be supportive of someone who bettered their health. Not trying to play armchair psychologist, but one thing I've heard about this kind of situation is the person who is with the losing weight person fell in love with them as who they were-- weight and all. When you lose the weight that person…

I actually get muscle spasms randomly, or when I stretch out a certain way. They HURT! It might be due to a potassium deficiency. Remember to stay hydrated, warm up, stretch, and cool down to help your muscles. I won't say it's necessary, but it does help.

Obese, to overweight to High BMI, to Mid BMI. My mother was the WORST with mean. I'm 5'4". At the time I was about 135 pounds and yes, I did have some love handles at the side and yes I did have a little bit of a belly. I knew it, but at the time I had no idea how to even start losing weight healthily. My mom would poke my…

Yes, I've been to the NYC ballet and the muscle definition was obvious in their legs (no surprise), but not in their arms the way Madonna has! Of course the muscle definition is obvious with the ballerinas in the pictures. It would be a little concerning if there was no definition while they're flexing during dances.…

Wow, I had no idea expressing an opinion would be so...inflaming. I am not against having body strength. I've had friends and coworkers who were in the military (one was a woman who was a PT stud) and they've all told me there are a variety of ways to strengthen and gain muscles without lifting much at all. What seems…
-
It's not that I'm against some muscle definition. I'm sure if most women were to flex you'd see a bit of a muscle bulge. Unfortunately, having PCOS makes me more cognizant of wanting to look female, since I have to deal with side issues like hair and all.

How could that be fat when it was the result of a 30 pound loss?
-
I agree, her body looks great but she definitely doesn't have that "bulky" look. https://itrainthereforeieat.files.wordpress.com/2014/01/jessica-beal.jpg Jessica's arms are a bit bulky-- this is what happens with my arms. In my opinion-- for myself and from what other women with broad shoulders have said, this look makes…
-
To be exact, the bulkiness was at its worst when I was at my heaviest-- and with the worst PCOS symptoms. That was years ago, but since then I've really shied away from lifting a lot. I only lift 2 times a week. I do heavier on my lower body, but am careful with my upper. A few years ago when I decided to just lift anyway…

Do you know the name of the restaurant? Chances are, you'll be able to find the menu and then look up the nutritional content ahead of time. I like to do this and when I can't find that exact restaurant's nutrition data, I look up another comparable restaurant. I think it's possible to eat at a pasta place without…

Btw I would love to have Alix Newton's arms. They look slender and sleek, but I'm sure she's very strong. My arms always get this weird muscled bumpy look going on.
-
Is it really true the not getting bulky part applies to all women, regardless of health issues? With PCOS and all that you know, free testosterone floating around in my system, I've noticed I DO get bulkier when I lift. Even light weights. Isn't it true if you lift to the point of muscle exhaustion, you will end up getting…

You must have not read the part where I said I use added weights.
-
The weights actually help with my balance and form (my husband has a weight belt I like to use, too), so I'll stick to that.
-
Do you get results from body weight squats? I usually do squats with added weights.
-
That's what I was thinking, which is why my eyes bulged at the regimen. I am ALL FOR a squat challenge, but it needs to be a reasonable and healthy one. Is there a way we could modify this to accommodate for busy schedules, too?
-
Husband is feeling insecure. People don't like change. BTDT.
-
Is it healthy to do weight lifting on the same muscle groups for consecutive days?
-
It could possibly be due to salt consumption and retention. Seriously, if I eat something with a lot of salt in it it can take me days for the retained weight to go away. You NEED to weigh everything and log accurately. I don't go by the package, as the package is often inaccurate as well (I learned this with bottled…
-
I weight everything and even if I follow the serving size from the package where it's exact (like the pieces of a chocolate bar), I still weigh it just in case. The problem I find here isn't weighing and logging the food. It's the inaccurate data in the database! I wish there was a way to get accurate data without paying…
