Being strong is a pretty sure fire way to increase your enjoyment of everyday activities, avoid injury, age gracefully, and on and on.

Not be annoying, but you got this exactly half wrong. When losing weight, lift for strength. Yes, I said strength. You will get stronger even though you won't gain muscle, and getting stronger is way awesomer than you imagined before it started to happen to you. During my initial weight loss period, I tried to lift weight…

Well, to be honest, they are lazy and shiftless. I'm not prejudiced. Some of my best friends are satyrs.

Just keep weighing yourself and stick to the plan, and on top of that get some body fat calipers. Give it at least three weeks, and keep taking measurements.

I heard juicing is better than using your teeth. It helps you detox.

She's actually more of a hamadryad. Fairies just do the tooth thing.

Not if you eat clean

You'll ruin your thigh gap with all that strength training. You need to do yoga to lengthen your muscles.

Same here! Without my regular workouts I can wind up manic or depressed, even on meds. With a lot of hard work though, I am as stable as can be, and super productive. And no meds except a touch of the ole four twenty. I go as far as taking a TRX with me to an audition if it disrupts my training schedule. After I sing, I…

Fat can be pretty damn firm, especially when you are gaining it.

I'm just popping in to say that ballet dancers are the freaking cutest, the way they all walk like ducks. Beautiful, sleek, tiny ducks. Back when I was an apprentice, the ABT would take over the theatre every summer, but for a while we would still be coming in. Those were heady, distracted times! The cafeteria would be…

Would I get my head bitten off if I asked to see pics? ;)

Being surly, on the other hand, is universal.

Actually, most gyms would rather you stay home and keep paying your membership dues. Every time you come in, you cut into their profits.
-
it's a euphemism for Kegels I think...

it depends on goals. I've learned from tinkering and by accident that when I'm trying to lose fat it's better (but very difficult) to exercise less and eat less. So I could see myself doing two a days while trying to gain or maintain.

lol technically though, he is suggesting he made the universe more massive, not heavier ;)

better call the cops. a conversation evolved based on the input of the participants. if only I had a nickel for every time somebody stupid and insecure about it accused me of showing off by just saying what's on my mind! I'd have, like, at least twenty bucks. Not that it happens here or anything, since everyone here is so…

Postural stability acquired from the squat pretty much improves performance in almost any sport and in many art forms. It's huge. I don't ride, but I can take a pretty good guess that if strength training helps me sing better, it will help someone ride better. That probably explains why all the pro riders look like the…

that's because your hamstrings and quads are pulling on the joint equally, creating an essentially close to neutral situation for your knees (but your hips are getting hammered). High bar squats and even more so, front squats, will shift some of that to the front of the knee.

it tends to happen to people who like their definitions to be definitive. I got my definition from Mark Rippetoe. I think he's right. What do you think, or are you only commenting on who, in your opinion, fits in to the prevailing social structure better than others? good definitions are awesome. they help you organize…

So... I glanced at the diary. It did not take me long to find RIBS logged BY THE PIECE. Seriously? That's not accurate logging, sorry. And on top of that, you are most inaccurate on that day with the one item that has high caloric density. Now if I keep looking, how much more of this sort of logging error will I find? And…

There are bad emotions?

I don't really agree with the definitions here. Strength is a measure of how much pushing or pulling force you can apply against an object in your environment. Strength training means a program designed to increase that capacity. Example- pushing a stalled car out of an intersection. You might jam your chest or butt into…

Eh! I left the clean for later and still don't know how. Don't tell people not to clean! Good advice, though, otherwise.

I take rest days, but on those days I'm totally wiped and I need it., so I go for a hike or whatever for exercise, but I don't TRAIN on rest days. I have been stable since I made exercise a habit.

Good job on the bootie, but now you need to learn how to squat. Sounds like you are doing high bar squat with a possible exaggerated arch in the lumbar, and for some reason not letting your knee go past your foot. The OP should be going for low bar squats (less pressure in the knees), but only after reading "starting…

and STRENGTH. low bar squats, overhead press, bench, deadlift, pullups, and such

I only brought up amoebas while trying to say, apparently unsuccessfully, that all that energy we talk about comes from actual stuff going in our bodies and actual stuff coming out of them. Something might go in as a solid and come out as a gas, which is I think why people have such crazy ideas about all this. Because only…
