Aspartame is hydrolyzed on its methyl group by intestinal esterases yielding methanol, which is oxidized in the one-carbon metabolic pool to CO2. The resultant dipeptide of that is split at the mucosal surface by dipeptidases and the free amino acids are absorbed. The aspartic acid is transformed in large part to CO2…

Aspartame does not stimulate insulin release. Please refer to D.G. Bruce, et al, (2004), Cephalic phase metabolic responses in normal weight adults,

http://www.ajcn.org/cgi/reprint/29/9/940 a quick, albeit old read. I remember hearing how semi-starvation diets were really big back in the 60s and early 70s. I've even heard of a study done in the 60s where morbidly obese study participants were only given a multi-vitamin and allowed to drink water, and that was it. I'll…

goat, can you provide some links to some journal articles on this statement? Some stuff I found by surfing google seems to contradict your statement on the artificial sweeteners. http://ajpgi.physiology.org/cgi/content/full/296/4/G735

There may be some truth to this. I've heard of some crazies taking shots of vinegar with their meals to get the same effect. http://care.diabetesjournals.org/content/27/1/281.full

:drinker: I'll raise my glass to you Cparter! I had never heard of this until I read a thread about it today. 500 Kcal/day is a crazy amount of food to live on. I'm not sure if the HCG diet has gone through the peer reviewed journal process or if the anti-HCG campain has done so either. I just don't see the FDA signing off…

I'm sorry, don't want to be a pot stirrer but I see a lot of people saying that working out in the morning is "scientifically" proven. As a scientist myself (forensic toxicologist) and a degree in molecular biology people in the field usually get called out when they talk about studies or research. If there are references…

Where has this thread been hiding from me all week?!?!! The majority of my game playing is WoW (can't wait for cata). My friends in the military got me hooked and we used to do PT sessions to work off the "WoW weight" that we gained from playing 4-6 hours a night and pretty much nothing else. I took a break from WoW for…

Sorbitol. Try to stay away from the stuff. Although, if you work in an office that has a candy bowl thief (like I do), put out a big bowl of sugar free goodies loaded with sorbitol and put them out, they'll leave your desk alone after that.

I agree, blogging is a good way to archive your progress. Whether you are doing great or have a few days whewre you slip. Also, don't forget to take a pitcture of yourself when you do your weekly weigh-in and measurements if that is what you do (I know some people are daily). It's quite amazing the before and after…

once a week at the same time is good. But I think the scale is my enemy most of the time. I personally like looking in the mirror, seeing how clothes fit and comparing weekly pictures than rely too much on the scale, other than to get the numbers to add for progress.
