  • I saw this topic when I first joined the group, but decided to delay my posting until I had spent some serious time back in the pool. I'm ready to rant. I hate when kids jump in my lane during lap swim while the lane is designated for such. I hate when the lifeguards don't do anything about it. I hate when the kids…

  • For me it's Carne Frita, tostones, maduros, and rice and beans (all Caribbean dishes with slight variations depending on whether it's Puerto Rico, Dominican Republic, or Cuba). Carne Frita is fried pork morsels. Tostones and maduros are fried plantains prepared different ways and at different stages of the ripeness of the…
  • Since I've started, I've weighed myself every day as well. I record every time I lose. That way, when I come in at a slightly higher weight on a subsequent day, I'm more motivated to work hard in my workout, and keep to the dieting goals.
  • I know you said no oatmeal, but this one is comparable to peach cobbler, so it's kinda dessert-ish rather than dinner. 1 pouch Better Oats Oat Fit instant Oatmeal - Cinnamon Roll - 100 calories 1/2 cup Kirkland sliced peaches in light syrup - 70 calories Prepare the oatmeal as instructed, only pour the hot water directly…
  • Yes because it's better in the shower than in the pool.
  • My junkfood downfall is my pregnant wife who buys whatever she wants to eat at the store and brings it home to eat in front of me. Kidding. She can eat whatever she wants. I'd say ice cream. Man, I love me some ice cream.
  • There was a girl who died after drinking two in a short period of time. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/03/24/anais-fournier-energy-drinks-caffeine-toxicity-poisoning_n_1373655.html. Granted, she had a heart problem, and shouldn't have been drinking them in the first place, but if you have an undiagnosed heart issue,…

  • I'm on MFP because my friend started using it, and he lost 50 lbs. That's about the amount I want to lose, and so I figured it would help. Something to never do naked... Open a stubborn jar (Seinfield reference number 2).
  • My wife is hot regardless of the length of her hair. However, a purely practical approach leads me to lean toward shorter hair. I enjoy spooning much more without a face full of long hair in the way.
  • MFP estimates are high by most swimmer's reckonings. I think the same theory may or may not apply to just kicks, depending on the stroke and the method. If I do a set of lung busters by dolphin kicking streamlined for the full 25 yards, I find my heart rate is a little lower than if I'm swimming a fly set of the same…

  • I exercise almost exclusively sans shoes. Of course, I'm a swimmer, but yes, it is possible to work out without shoes.
  • I weigh myself every day because it helps keep me motivated. Any time I have a loss from the previously recorded weight, I record it. That way, I'm motivated to work harder to make sure the scale doesn't start moving in the wrong direction.
  • I'd totally do it as long as my wife was around to be embarrassed by it.
  • I worked as a lifeguard at a fitness center once. We had an adults only (18+) hot tub that was utilized by this one greasy kid who always wore a wife beater in the pool, and must have been just barely 18. Since water was involved, we had to have a lifeguard at the hot tub. One time a fellow guard came into the break room…

  • Swimming in the morning: set 1 - 1800 yards freestyle, set 2 - 200 yards breast stroke, set 3 - 100 yards breast stroke kick, set 4 - 100 yards breast stroke with pull paddles, sets 5,6,7 - repeat 2,3,4 only with back stroke, set 8 - 9 x 50 sprint freestyle, set 9 - 450 cool down. P90X at night.
  • I am a distance swimmer, and these sets look like a reasonable way to build to a mile. The only problem is that you don't actually build up to a full mile in this set. The math of the site says 1650 yards is a mile. This is untrue. There are 3 feet to a yard, and 5,280 feet to a mile. 5,280/3 = 1,760. This comes out to 35…
  • Ok. I'm glad I haven't been logging much as vigorous. I typically do the last 100 yards of my continuous mile as an all out sprint (or as near to that as I can muster after 1700 continuous yards), and I have a set of ten 50's freestyle at 3/4 speed. Between the two of them, it takes about ten minutes, and so I'll log ten…
  • I had thought of that. I looked around for some affordable options with good reviews, but found none. Because I'm in law school on student loans, and I have a family, the term affordable means under $80. Any suggestions?
