Two words will help you combat the itchy: Cocoa Butter. It might help with the smell too.

Stop trying and embrace it. It's who you are. On the upside, if your skin absorbs enough of it, your sweat will be chlorinated, and no bacteria which produce body odor will be able to grow. Just think of all the money you'll save on deodorant! (totally not serious about that part)

I'm on board with the critics. In theory, it seems efficient, but in any practical situation, the technique must yield to more traditional approaches. I didn't say anything at first because this topic is known to start internet brawls.

This is a delicious rice and black beans recipe, and the only thing most people will need to buy from the ingredients list is the black beans and maybe bell peppers and onions. http://icuban.com/food/moros_y_cristianos.html Here's a recipe from Puerto Rico that pairs well with the rice and beans. 1-3 lbs chicken pieces…

The past because I've done some stupid stuff in my life, and my actions today determine my future. If a tree falls in a forest and hits a mime, and nobody is around to hear it, does anybody care?

I know it's somewhat contrary to what you've been trained to do, but try giving your knees a little more bend. Not so much that they're creating drag, but enough that the lower leg muscles loosen up a bit. The kick from the hip proper form tends to make your calves/feet tighten up. Keep kicking from the hip, only allow…

Ravenclaw, and I wouldn't have it any other way.

Summer is my very favorite, and if I could live an endless summer, I would. However, my first daughter is due at the end of October, and so I'm really jonsing for summer to end this year.

Clearly you've never lived in Nebraska/met a Husker fan.

An easy fix to ward off jellyfishers is to start sprinting hard regardless of where you are in your set the minute a jellyfisher walks out onto the deck. I hate when somebody comes to split the lane, but enters on the wrong side of the pool forcing you to either stop in the middle of a lap or just keep going and as a…

Snake is delicious, and it's got lots of protein. To get over the ick factor, don't kill and prepare it yourself. I think you can buy packaged snake meat online.

Would and have. Bugs I have eaten include: 2 chocolate covered crickets, 1 fried grasshopper, 1 live grasshopper swallowed whole, 1 live cricket swallowed whole, 1 live grasshopper chewed, and 1 beetle larva grub looking thing. I'm not exactly sure what that last one was because it was in the forest burrowing in a fallen…

6AM mowing is unacceptable. I used to work a 2-11PM shift. After I got home, I would usually get to bed around 12-1AM. Work shifts vary by industry, but the majority of people still work normal business hours. When I worked an 8-5, I wouldn't get up until around 7-7:30 and so even then a 6AM mowing neighbor would have…

All the Pretty Horses by Cormac McCarthy - Western type novel. You've probably seen the movie, but the book is better. Jude the Obscure by Thomas Hardy - Late Victorian novel which is atypical of the era Tropic of Orange by Karen Tei Yamas hi ta (The last name has spaces because MFP censors the word s-h-i-t even when a…

Well it works for you. My point is that it can't be universally applied as a rule. For example: I swam 5 X 100 at the tail end of 2.5 miles today. My splits for each 100 were 1:25, 1:20, 1:20, 1:15 and 1:15. At the end of my workout, this is fast vigorous because I had to give it about 80% + effort to make those times.…

Very well done! I know for certain I couldn't run those distances let alone in such times.

I'm sorry you had to be exposed to this on your first day. MFP is a microcosm of life. You'll find very nice, supportive, and helpful people here, and you'll find loudmouth a-holes; only the anonymity of the internet allows the loudest and most a-hole-ish people to have an open forum. Here's how I do it. I walk into the…

I don't think it's that simple, though. 75 yards/minute might be easy for some and impossible for others. I've asked the question outside the forum, and speculated that 70% on up to all out should be fast/vigorous, and anything less should be light/moderate. I had lots of agreement, and no dissent. When I started back in…

Why, thank you. To duplicate this photo op, have a friend point a leaf blower at your face and take a photo.

Nothing. There is nothing you can do at the pool with a noodle without looking like a total spaz. Oh wait, there is one thing. Throw the pool noodle on the deck and start swimming laps.

This happened when my oldest was four. Son: Dad, pass the salt. Me: What's the magic word? Son: Abraca-damn-ya I couldn't stop laughing because we don't use that kind of language ever or allow him to be exposed to it.

By flex-footed, do you mean toes extended, or floppy ankles? I've been in kind of a similar situation, only I've been back at it for about two and a half months. My workouts range from 3600 to 5400 yards with the first 1800 straight through. I find that when I go straight through like that on the first mile, I naturally…

^Doing this will help tremendously. You might even try this on an eliptical or a treadmill so that you're used to doing cardio while breathing backwards.
-
Breathe on one side and see if that helps. Swimmers are naturally more comfortable breathing on their dominant side. For example, my dad, who is left handed, breathes left while I breathe right as a right hander. I breathe every stroke during my right arm recovery (that's when its coming out of the water and going through…
-
Are you being coached to breathe on both sides? I've heard people swear up and down that this is the best way to do it if you want to avoid stress injuries, but I've swam for 16+ years, some of it competitively, and I've only breathed on my right side. It feels unnatural to breathe left. I haven't had an injury yet. The…

Try breathing every other stroke. Also, your upper body doesn't need to come out of the water a whole lot. You naturally want to come out high in order to breathe, but look at Phelps and try to emulate his form. His head, arms, and shoulders barely come out of the water. Your head should come out of the water as it does…
