There's a group of swimmers of all levels on MFP. If you want to get into swimming, you should join the group, watch some online stroke technique videos, and possibly find a masters team in your area.

Eat a deficit and do lots of cardio. How much of a difference it makes in the amount of time you've specified depends on you.

I can be a bit of a mega splasher sometimes, but only on Fast Fridays, and not the way you explained it. Every Friday I sprint a lap to see how fast I can go. I get a good kick going, and I feel like I'm splashing a lot. I try to choose a time to sprint when there aren't others in the lane next to me, though.

I did two a days every day in high school when the sport I played was in season. I'm in my 30's now and I did two workouts a day every day this week. It felt pretty good, but I am beat! I'll probably just do one workout tomorrow. But seeing as you're in your early 20's, I'd say you shouldn't have a problem at all with…

Or anywhere in the SEC except Vanderbilt.

When you've jammed your finger trying to out touch an opponent/the guy in the lane next to you who doesn't know you're racing him/to beat your own personal best time. When you've been to a team leg shaving party (guys). When you've grossed out cheerleaders who were forced to go to at least one meet because you haven't…

Clearly you've never been to Nebraska.

Different pools have different rules, written or unwritten. Sometimes lane speeds will be marked. If they are not, these are some good default rules to go by. If you're in doubt, go with what you've observed to be the slow lane before. If you must share a lane because all lanes are full, find the swimmer(s) most comparable…

27 lbs lost watching diet and swimming. I started May 13.

You're really close. I'll bet you can get under 24:00 and 1:10, respectively.

500 free in 6:10 today. Everything else is the same.

Yes, you are a cheater. One mile is 5280 feet. There are three feet in a yard. There are 1760 yards in a mile. Hit the wall at 1750, swim roughly half the length of the pool, and stop. Then look at your time. I'll bet you can get that in 34:33.

Swim using a pull buoy. Your arms and shoulders might get some bulk, but your legs won't be doing any work.

For me, 20 mins of breast stroke will burn only about 150 cals, at least according to my HRM. [/quote] Swim harder. ;)

Yeah, the last time I tried a pull up was a disaster. Swimming fast is more technique than anything.

Scotch, Irish, and French on my dad's side (but not really on the French because my French ancestors have been in the U.S. since before the 1700's); Swedish, Danish, and British on my mom's side. My wife is Mexican on her mom's side, and Swiss, Swedish, and Italian on her dad's side.

I've never been on a master's team, but I swam in high school and lifeguarded as well. From what I observed of the master's team when I guarded, I would categorize it as more of a social thing than a competitive thing. In high school, the social element was definitely there, but everybody was also very serious about…

20 minutes of breaststroke will burn the same number of cals, and us anti aquacize people will respect you more, too.

Nope. Jellyfish style is exactly what it sounds like. Head above the water, no really identifiable attempt at a stroke, arms and legs moving without apparent direction intended, yet still going back and forth down the lane... slowly, but going. Jellyfishers take up an entire lane and can't be bothered to share because…

They are nothing short of incredible. If you decide to break from healthy eating, I suggest trying them with either mojo sauce, or ceviche. Adds a whole new realm of possibilities for tostones.

Rice, beans, onions, cilantro, and spices. I could eat rice and beans for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

How much water one drinks is largely circumstantial. When I lived in Phoenix and was outside for a majority of the day, I would drink over 300 oz. each day in the summer, excluding meal times. That's 37.5 cups, 2.3 gallons, or 8.9 liters. Now that I live elsewhere, I'm inside most of the day. I drink out of a 20 oz water…

Corndogs are awesome. My love of corndogs started at a much younger age. My next door neighbor would make them from scratch on Halloween and give them as an option for trick-or-treaters. I grew up in the Mountain West, and so sometimes Halloween nights were cold. It was nice to finish my night on my street and get a hot…

Since I started on MFP, my biggest binge was on Father's Day. I had three baby back ribs, four bacon wrapped and cream cheese stuffed jalapenos, a large side of orange infused green beans, a mason jar of Simply Lemonade (this stuff is soooooo gooood), and three slices of homemade lemon meringue pie (750 cal in pie alone).…

That, my British friend, is a corn dog. A corn dog is a frankfurter dipped in a cornmeal based batter, and deep fried. Most people hear about this and think it's pretty disgusting, but let me tell you, corn dogs are INCREDIBLE. They're also incredibly bad for you. But today is our Independence Day, and so I think I might…
