  • Welcome! You can look up strength training under the Cardiovascular section and log the number of minutes you work out...hope this helps!
  • So sorry to hear about your job loss...I had a similar experience about 7 years ago, and was out of work for almost 10 months...but I live in Florida, and high-tech jobs were/are scarce...it will get better, I promise you...I never thought I would ever find a job, but I am with a great company and I love my work...I will…
  • Congratulations!! You are a true inspiration to all of us who are following in your footsteps...keep up the great work!
  • Just missing one day should not put you off course...the important thing is to get right back on your routine as soon as you can...if you let it slide for a week, then you can be upset...hang in there and don't be so hard on yourself... A favorite quote of mine is "Our character is what we do when we think no one is…
  • Welcome aboard! I always resisted food journaling as well, but have had good success so far with this...good luck to you!
  • I agree with the others...as long as you are feeling good and still losing weight, don't sweat the calorie details too much...it's still early, but if you get to a point where you stop losing, then you need to worry about "starvation mode"...I'm a "big guy" too, and I don't think I need to worry too much about that…
  • Right on, CharityD! I was just like you, and now because of yo-yo dieting, I have over 100 pounds to lose...slow and steady is how the weight came on, and how it should come off... I think the best advice for those that want to lose lots of weight in a short amount of time comes from the failure they will…
  • My wife and I battled infertility for several years before we were able to conceive and we are now the proud parents of a little boy who turns 7 in a few months...exercise and fitness play a big role in your overall plans to conceive, and depending on where you are in your journey with weight loss, it can have positive or…
  • Good for you...the world is full of idiots, and unfortunately it's considered poor form to cull the herd...don't let a bunch of intellectual midgets get to you...
  • I think you should discuss this with your physician...they know the most (hopefully!) about everything you are dealing with (and if they don't - tell them!) and should be able to guide you in settling on what will be a healthy weight for you to maintain...my own discussions have led me to believe that guides like the BMI…
  • Welcome! You are off to a great start...I haven't found anyone who isn't supportive and willing to lend a hand (or an ear, depending on what you ask for!)...good luck on your journey!
  • Welome! As many of the previous posters have noted, this site/app are great and the user community is very active and supportive...I think you will be pleasantly surprised...

  • I also experienced this in the early weeks...I think (at least in my case) that my stomach had been stretched somewhat with the number of calories I had been consuming before I began tracking, and it has tapered off as I get things under control...you may want to add some higher fiber foods and as much water as you can…
  • Fresh apple with peanut butter as a treat? Find something with lots of fiber, low sugar, and indulge a little, but just be sensible...and remember, being under your daily goal by 10% of your total calories will probably not impact you too much as long as you don't do it all the time...
  • Welcome aboard! The folks here are friendly and the app is wonderful!

  • BUMP What a great article - this applies to the fellas out there too, BTW...
  • Welcome! I have tried every fad diet under the sun to avoid journaling, and I regret every year I wasted looking for a quick fix...I love this app and appreciate that it travels with me on my iPhone since I travel for my job...now that I see where the calories are coming from, it is much easier to hold myself…
  • I also have a wide ranging selection on my iPod, but a couple of recent favorites I've added are: The Middle by Jimmy Eat World New Shoes by Paolo Nutini
  • Welcome aboard!
  • Good luck! The weekends are always the hardest in the beginning of your journey...don't beat yourself up too much if you slip a little...just make the best choices you can, drink more water than wine (or beer or vodka or ...) and keep some kind of exercise routine in the back of your mind for when/if you go over...
  • I agree with munchy - make sure it is not an emotional or stress eating craving, but if you are truly hungry (stomach growling, etc) then put some high fiber/low cal food in there along with plenty of water...
  • Welcome! The folks here are great motivation and I find this a wonderful tool to aid in my weight loss program...good luck to you!

  • Welcome! You've come to the right place! Good luck!
  • Welcome! I also found this app for my iPhone and love it - I travel for work, and this is the best tool I have found to keep up with my journaling...it also works great when I am at home on my PC...good luck to you!
  • Welcome! This site is great for support and motivation - and I really like that it travels with me on my iPhone (I travel for my job)...good luck to you!
  • Another issue with diet soda is the sodium and caffeine, both of which can cause you to retain water...not to mention the potential long term adverse health effects of artificial sweeteners...that being said, I do still consume them in place of regular soda, but I have drastically cut back and hope to eliminate them…
  • I recognized myself as an emotional eater several years ago (yes, it happens to men too)...I just went through a very emotionally taxing situation last week (had to stage an intervention with my alcoholic father) and I totally sympathize with your situation...I admit I did hit the Dairy Queen the night after I took him to…
  • Welcome aboard! I too am a life-long survivor of the weight struggle, been on and off diets since I was 15 years old...always resisted food diarys out of sheer laziness, but this site works for me...it travels with me on my iPhone which is very critical to my success...good luck to you!

  • Welcome Rachel - I am a dad to one soon-to-be 7 year old boy, so you definitely have me beat there, but I am the oldest of 6 siblings, so I know what my mom went through...great that your husband is along for support, it's taken my wife 3 months to get onboard but she's lost about 4 pounds now and wants to look good for…
  • I agree with the other posters...if you are not eating your exercise calories, your body is going into starvation mode and will start storing everything it can to survive...
