This. Doublecheck that it's tight enough, and if that doesn't make a difference, replace the battery in the chest strap. Low battery = low transmit power and not able to penetrate the water as well. (battery is about $4 at walgreen's or radio shack)

My gym does complimentary 7-site caliper measurements - if you are a gym member, ask at the desk, or flag down one of the trainers & see if yours does too.

I won't even begin to speculate on the possibility of particular foods staying in particular places, except to say that in line with the "you can't spot reduce", I have a hard time imagining that it has anything to do with the specific food & it seems a lot more likely that it's just where your body does it's 1st…

Glass/gravel etc are discussed on that 2nd link I posted above - ( http://therunningbarefoot.com/begin-here ) & he's got me convinced that those hazards are a lot less significant than most would have you believe. If you remain aware of your circumstances and the surface upon which you're running, I think you'll be fine -…

Fantastic work. You looked great even in the befores but you can definitely see the progress in the afters. Good job!

I'm a newbie runner too, but have come to love it ever since switching to minimalist shoes (Merrell trail gloves), but am working toward going full barefoot myself. Whenever i tried to take up running before I always gave it up early in the process due to massive knee and hip pain - those problems are TOTALLY nonexistent…

Just finished week 3 and am loving it so far. I started out on the treadmill but have since taken it outside and am definitely enjoying it a lot more in the fresh air than I was in the gym. I use the coaching function of Runkeeper Pro on my android phone to tell me when to jog and when to walk

Dude, you should post that in Success as an NSV!

Consider this blog mandatory reading before you buy an HRM. http://www.myfitnesspal.com/blog/Azdak/view/the-real-facts-about-hrms-and-calories-what-you-need-to-know-before-purchasing-an-hrm-or-using-one-21472 It's a good read, well worth the effort. I'm of the opinion that in general you get what you pay for with an HRM -…

This, with the additional comment that the protein should be quick-digesting (whey is good) and should include high glycemic carbs to "shuttle" the BCAAs in to the muscle. My post-workout drink is a double serving of orange gatorade concentrate with a single serving of vanilla whey, blended in a shaker bottle with cold…

I got one of those factory-built fancy-schmancy cold brew "systems" (a carafe and a big-*kitten* funnel with the thick felt filter and a cork) and have to say that I did get better results than my homebrew attempts. The times I tried it with paper filters worked okay & the result was decent at first but got bitter the…

Went to high school w with a (seriously) "Harry Boner" spelled and pronounced just that way. Dear friend and former co-worker whose last name is Nus, first name Paul... used to show up on caller-id as P. Nus He got married a while back to Andrea... so now we have P. Nus and A. Nus. Needless to say they don't go by their…

I may be mistaken and/or the status may have changed, but when I was researching bluetooth HRM options, the Polar with bluetooth was only available from one specific online distributor, no retail sales. I've known of a couple of people who made the mistake of buying the Polar "Wearlink +" instead of the "Wearlink +…

excerpted from my obligatory azdak blog reference here: http://www.myfitnesspal.com/blog/Azdak/view/the-real-facts-about-hrms-and-calories-what-you-need-to-know-before-purchasing-an-hrm-or-using-one-21472 So basically either use the MFP estimate or buy a very high end HRM and add your strength training under cardio here.

Maple/Soy glazed like this: http://www.cookingforengineers.com/recipe/10/Grilled-Salmon Or I'll do that recipe but squeeze in the juice from one lime along with the soy and maple syrup.... this process does not work well for indoor cooking, but on the grill it's amazing.

My kiddo has 2 middle names too, but neither of them made the list. I'm on there though - Joseph (after m' grandad)

Read this (and the other blog post linked to in the very beginning of this one): http://www.myfitnesspal.com/blog/Azdak/view/calories-burned-during-exercise-it-s-the-intensity-not-the-heart-rate-that-counts-26524 He explains that the heart rate is NOT indicative of extra calories being burned directly, but more a…

+1 for Bodyglide - available in all your fine sporting goods stores (D!ck's, Scheels, etc) as well as running shops, many outdoor stores (REI etc) and if you've got a scuba/snorkel/dive shop, or a kayak/canoe store handy they'll usually carry it there too. The stuff is like magic.

Read this: http://www.myfitnesspal.com/blog/Azdak/view/the-real-facts-about-hrms-and-calories-what-you-need-to-know-before-purchasing-an-hrm-or-using-one-21472 Good data there, well worth the read. I currently own 3 different HRMs, and am planning on yet another upgrade so that I can have something that more accurately…

Buahahahaha. Ain't THAT the truth.

Not to sound like a Polar/Best Buy shill or anything, but Bestbuy.com has had the Polar FT60 with GPS receiver on sale for $180 for the past month, down from $330, basically a free GPS unit with the FT60 at normal price. If I were in the market for a new HRM it's what I'd be buying.
-
Can you share where Polar has confirmed that? I've contacted customer support directly and been told that they do not discuss the specifics of their calorie estimation algorithm because it's confidential and proprietary... If they've gone on record as saying that I'd love to know where. Having said that, my personal belief…

Friend request sent - I'll agree with what was said above - no set speed, go with what you can maintain.

+1 That and Pepsi Throwback and Mt Dew Throwback. Yuummmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm. (250+ calories a bottle for the 20oz'ers though!)

Hey now! I'm VERY good at BEING wrong - I just suck at admitting it!

I'm another "sleep to sleep" logger. The only downside to doing it that way is that when you close your diary after midnight it doesn't post to your friends newsfeeds so you may miss out on some feedback.

"no exceptions" +10 geek points for using rule 34 in this context.

+1 to both of these.
