Neat. I get the privilege of disagreeing with azdak, whom I've quoted and who's blog entries I've linked countless MFP'ers to over the years. The innermost quote doesn't ever mention using the HRM for calorie burn at all - The poster says s/he uses an HRM for consistency and as a way to compare to previous (assumed…

You totally stole my answer, but since you did I'll take my fallback position and go with "on the outside of my boat"

I feel like a YurBuds salesman about now - but that's one of the very cool things about the Yurbuds product - they make something like 7 different sized sleeves that go over standard ear buds that when sized appropriately for your auricle really work well to lock the bud into place without completely obstructing your ear…

I originally bought the red & black ironman w/o the ear loops - http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Yurbuds+-+Ironman+Series+Earphones+-+Black/Red/1199972.p?id=1218247978163&skuId=1199972&st=yurbuds&cp=1&lp=3 which come with 2 sizes of silicon covers and are around $50, but the replacement set I bought were the basic black ironman…

Yurbuds are available both as just the covers and with buds (which are "okay" audio quality but not fantastic). They are also available at Best Buy now. I own 2 pair (picked up the 2nd set on vacation when I forgot to bring the first) and love 'em to death. They stay put but don't form a total seal so I can still hear…

You win.

My mistake - the ON Natural is sweetened with evaporated cane juice, not refined fructose. 5g of carbs, v. 2 or so with the sucralose/aspartame/stevia sweetened options, so not a bunch more but still worth mentioning. I almost cried when the subscribe & save ended on it, but even so, around $50 shipped for 5lbs is still…

Teraswhey is good but expensive, Optimum Nutrition Gold Standard Natural is good and cheaper but higher carb/calorie since its fructose sweetened. I went through this same search last year and ended up settling on the ON Gold Natural for the price and availability (amazon).

Saw that at my local HyVee ... did a doubletake. ... read it... re-read it.... shook my head and walked away, but it was the most difficult non-purchase I've made in a while, especially since it's 69 proof

Personally I'm with Taso on this one. Bourbon. Always. Knob Creek, neat unless it's a "cheap" night, then Elijah Craig or Buffalo Trace. http://getdrunknotfat.com/index.php is a good resource for comparing alcohol:calorie ratio. :)

"Works in water" = continues to record your HR, yes - I'm a whitewater kayaker & it's been fantastic in that environment through normal paddling and also when I've unintentionally ended up swimming... "Works in water" = keeps a connection to the wristwatch display unit in water, I can't speak from experience (I don't have…

Not a cheap solution, but if your primary use is to record your exercise (as opposed to using it as feedback DURING your exercise) you could switch to something like the Suunto Memory Belt which is an HRM chest strap with built-in memory. Do your exercise, and then dock the chest strap into a USB connector on your computer…

Tony himself says in the teasers for p90x2 that "there are no true cardio workouts in P90X"... it's still resistance work, but it's circuit training which does keep your heart elevated, but does NOT make the formulae used for estimating caloric expenditure in your HRM "work" for that exercise. My Polar HRM that I retired…

My standard "is my HRM accurate for x activity" response: Read this: http://www.myfitnesspal.com/blog/Azdak/view/the-real-facts-about-hrms-and-calories-what-you-need-to-know-before-purchasing-an-hrm-or-using-one-21472 short version - strength training is rarely accurately reported by an HRM since unless you go very…

a) yes - replace the battery b) if the battery change doesn't help, send it in, If you bought it from Amazon (ie not from a 3rd party you found on amazon) you should still be covered in factory warranty if the transmitter is defective c) yes, definitely possible - while I no longer use a Polar HRM, I've owned several, and…

http://getdrunknotfat.com/ If I'm going to drink at all, I want to REALLY enjoy it, so I only drink the best that I can afford. Any small batch or single barrel bourbon works for me, Knob Creek seems to be a good standby, available most anywhere and very nice. Step up to their single barrel & it's even nicer. Buffalo Trace…

another coffee snob here, though I don't roast, I don't feel that I need to, as I have a lovely little shop about 1/2 mile from work where they roast fresh daily and won't sell anything unflavored that is more than 2-weeks post-roast... they label everything with roast date also, so it's very easy to get a bag of beans…

I find that "Circuit Training" under cardio is very close to what my HRM with FirstBeat athlete software calculate for a given P90X strength session, as long as I "bring it". I've never looked for an analog to plyo-x, yoga-x, kenpo-x, or core synergistics (I always use my HRM for those) so I can't offer any suggestions…

Not to get into the whole Reb A / Truvia / Purevia debate, but I still think that despite being highly processed the stevia options are lower risk than sucralose or aspartame.... My current protein of choice is Optimum Nutrition Natural, which is stevia sweetened. Jay Robb is also tasty and has no aspartame nor sucralose,…

I tried a sample of chocolate shakeology and it made me literally gag. It was thick, slimy and had a funky bitter aftertaste to me.

Unless you're trying to get very high protein levels without eating meat, you should be able to get to your macro levels without protein powder. Lean chicken breast or tuna or salmon are great sources of lean protein. I know you didn't ask for non-powder options, so here's my thought on whey and other powders: I've had…

Slipknot Puscifer (heavy rotation right now) Lacuna Coil Marilyn Manson Bad Brains (early stuff) Rob Zombie Powerman 5000 Not strictly all "in genre" for your title, but it works for me. Occasionally I'll toss in some 80's/90's punk rock for spice.

Damn. Beat me to it.

Just did so, setting calories to 112233 and everything else to alternating 123 and 321 values I now have an entry in "Your Foods" with those values.

I have and love these (in red & black), but it's important to note that they are NOT a traditional running shoe - they have virtually zero arch support, but also have a zero "drop" from heel to toe. Much like running barefoot but with a thin layer of rubber to protect you from sharp "stuff". They facilitated my shift from…

Definitely a fan of locally roasted small-shop coffees, personally. Anyplace that you can walk into and talk to the roaster and throw yourself on his/her mercy & say "I'm a coffee virgin - be gentle" then actually take his/her suggestion is going to be a good experience. Try it black first - that's really the only way to…

I was NOT impressed with the Plus discs. For the most part they felt like thinly veiled infomercials, pushing Bowlfex Selecttech dumbbells and the standard Beachbody "stuff" like the results & recovery formula. Kenpo+ was "okay" but the transitions between exercises felt awkward and I had trouble keeping my HR up as a…

Congrats! That's fantastic and you look amazing. WTG!

As Sandi said, watch that sodium. I weigh daily (contrary to most recommendations) and actually enjoy seeing the fluctuation as long as the trend is in the right direction. I regularly see 4 lb jumps in the 24 hours after a high sodium intake day - it falls back down in the next 2-3 days very consistently though since it's…

Spot on. the BodyMedia product does not use heart rate for calorie estimation at all, it uses temperature, galvanic skin response (sweat) and motion sensors to estimate how many calories you're burning - when biking the vast majority of your motion is in the legs, while your arm (where the unit is attached) is very nearly…
