I'm trying to purchase a protein shake that I will drink at least 3 times a day. They are 2 kinds aspartame or sucralose. I know they both can be bad? Does anyone knows which is less dangerous???

Please let me know!!!

  • May I ask which protein shake you're interested in buying?

    which is less dangerous???

Do you really want the lesser of two evils?I vote find an unsweetened one and add your own stevia. It's natural and right around 0 calories.

I personally don't care for either...there are protein powders that have natural sweetener like stevia. I use the Vitamin Shoppe brand....no artificial sweeteners.

I won't use either. Jillian Michaels has one at Walmart that uses stevia. Also, there are some at health food stores - I use one by Biochem Sports, that is flavorless and can be added to anything that does not use artificial sweeters or any kind of sugar.
  • News flash Stevia isn't so all natural either.

    Yeah. WTH?

Stevia is the crystallized solids from the leaf of the stevia plant. Just like table sugar is the crystallized solids from the stalk of the sugar cane plant. What's not natural?

Versus aspartame and sucralose, I'd say Stevia is pretty damn natural.

Stevia IS natural. But only if it is REAL, pure Stevia extract.

Truvia, on the other hand is NOT natural. It is a highly chemically processed version of something that may have started out as Stevia, but the finished product is quite different. Purvia too...

EDIT - back to what the OP asked... Aspartame and Sucralose can both have negative effects. I do not use either... There are several protein powders that do not use artificial sweeteners. Some are unsweetened (which is what I use) and some are sweetened with either sugar or stevia.

Not to get into the whole Reb A / Truvia / Purevia debate, but I still think that despite being highly processed the stevia options are lower risk than sucralose or aspartame....

My current protein of choice is Optimum Nutrition Natural, which is stevia sweetened. Jay Robb is also tasty and has no aspartame nor sucralose, but it's a bit more expensive. Teraswhey is delicious, all natural/organic sourced, stevia sweetened, but very costly.
