Because its hard for you to fit into your schedule, aim for a minimum of 3 times a week, if your schedule allows you, try for up to 5 days a week. I never said that walking wasn't exercise, it's a great exercise & it can definitely be used as a weight loss tool! I lift weights and have lost weight too, that doesn't make it cardio!!! Walking is definitely exercise & you can lose weight doing it, but it isn't a cardio exercise unless you are quite obese & completely sedetary...
