After my first ever 5k last week: (no, it's not water) I have a horrible feeling the girl on the next treadmill along got a few drops flying her way. Sorry!

Oh gosh, do NOT base your targets on BMI! BMI is a rough guideline, at best. It's nothing more than a calculation based on weight and height, it doesn't take into account your frame or your body composition. For the record, my BMI is 31.5, I'm supposedly obese and need to lose 84lbs to be in the middle of the health…
-
Ok so I admit I Facebook stalked you to see better photos. You really don't look like you have 70lbs to lose, what are you basing this on? Also, make your Facebook profile more private :P
-
Did I see somewhere earlier in the thread you said you were on around 1200 - 1400 per day? You don't look like you have much to lose, seems like your target should be a little higher than that? unless you're particularly short?
-
Blatantly I'm going to get flamed for that post....
-
Right. This post has got my name written all over it. I got this. Ok so first of all you'll need to know, if you haven't already figured out by now, that drinking large quantities of alcohol is going to be a big problem in your weight loss journey. Binge drinking and a healthy lifestyle are about as mutually exclusive as…
-
Oh hell, you need to eat a ****load more than that. No wonder you're not losing!

So here's one thing about this whole HRM thing that I don't understand: surely as I get fitter and fitter, my heart rate won't go as high for equivalent exercise as it does now? So if I run 1 mile at 6mph (10 minutes), my heart rate would currently be hitting 170 by the end. If I did this same run every day for 3 months…

bump?

FWIW the calorie counter on the machine said about half what my HRM said. Obviously I know that the machine isn't as accurate because it doesn't know my weight, but surely it can't be that far off?
-
Fixed it for you. As if its not obvious, I guess its worth pointing out that the fat is on the left.
-
Using the "lb of feathers" logic would take us to the only logical conclusion that nothing weighs any more or less than anything else, as 1lb of anything always weighs 1lb. Clearly this logic is flawed. When we talk about weight, we refer to weight by volume. By volume muscle weighs a lot more than fat.
-
All the report graphs and everything still work fine if you don't complete your diary. Like someone else said, all it does is estimate your future weight lsos and publish your result onto your news feed. It doesnt affect reports at all.
-
Surely you need to swith the bio-impedence monitor and the calipers?
-
It could be what people call "water weight" but that is often used as an easy excuse. Lets face it (bluntly), if you have 99lbs to lose then you're a big girl. At your size the weight should be flying off you. If you've gained 2lbs there has to be a reason. Let's find out what that is: What does your diet look like? Open…

Try reposting this under the title "Fat does not weigh more than muscle" and you'll get plenty of views :)

I went from a gluttonous 2800 calories per day to a meagre 1600 per day. It took me a week or so fr my stomach to get used to it.

Jolly rolly fat folk

NEWS JUST IN: being fat makes you Angry. Has anyone spoken to ScientificJournal about this?
-
That's why it's better to say "jesus man, you're so big you don't need the Internet, you're already world-wide" Then the ambiguous word "fat" is removed.
-
The word "fat" is too subjective. The problem could be solved if we all just learnt to use terms that evoke visual representations of actual sizes. For example: "Wow, what a beached whale!" "Don't elephants normally have bigger ears than you?" and my personal favourite "There's a moose loose aboot this hoose!"

I like this almost-quote from American History X: What have you done today to make your life better?
-
Oddly ive found that in the UK the most remote areas will pay a premium for fuel, but also the most densely populated areas. Fortunately where i live in mansfield is halfway between the two so I pay a (relatively) cheap £1.37 for Diesel at the moment (I think petrol is about £1.33)
-
Its mathematically doable. But it's probably not recommended. Only the super-overweight can lose weight that fast consistently. For anyone else to try it would require an unmaintainable level of extreme calorie counting discipline .
-
That's easy: read the book that this thread is talking about! You can pick up New Rules of Lifting For Women online for around £10
-
Being obese when you lift is (in a way) a good position to be in. Normally you can't gain muscle while you're eating a calorie deficit. This is not true if you are heavily overweight; you're one of the lucky few who can do both at the same time. So yes, definitely lift. Getting stronger will make you feel better in so many…

Go to Zumba :)

It seems like you've avoided going back to the gym and getting back into exercising for 2 reasons: 1 ) When you get home, you're stressed from work 2 ) When you're stressed, you don't want to face the chore of exercising, you feel like you need to relax instead The problem here really isn't the stress from work (although…
