Well. My first IF week this week has been a dismal failure. Monday went well, but Birthday parties on Tuesday/Wednesday have scuppered my plans. And today I've had to eat breakfast because I need to take some ibuprofen which I can't do on an empty stomach. Guess this week is just a complete write-off. Better luck next week…

So the main reason not to work out fasted is lower energy? In that case I have a pre workout gel. That would help I guess? Leaving the office for the gym shortly so I'm about to find out for myself.
-
Really? I've read some stuff saying that by working out fasted, this will encourage my body to burn through my body fat to fuel the workout, rather than burning through my last meal if I had eaten. Do you disagree with this? I'm not asking to be argumentative, I'm genuinely a noob when it comes to IF, just looking to…

I guess dinner every day is gonna be pizza and a protein shake then. Think that's the only way to get that many calories in such a shropt space of time :D (I best point out that I'm kidding, before everyone jumps down my throat...)

Same as any diet that stops you eating all but 1 or 2 low-calorie foods, there's no fat burning science involved at all, its simply just a novelty way to severely restrict calories. Not nutritionally sane Not sustainable Likely to lead to big crashes and binges when you inevitably fall off the wagon Yes you will lose…

Thanks for the help guys. I picked up some running socks last night and went for a little jog with them. My blisters from a couple of days ago are still a little sore but I could definitely feel how much comfier the running socks were. Guess I'll stick to rowing and cycling for a few days until my feet are fine and then…

Interval training is definitely the way to go to build stamina really quickly. Cough to 5k is an excellent program for this. Stick with it, and don't feel bad about only doing 3 days a week; you need time to recover in-between, and this will be more and more true as you get further into the program. There's a warm up of a…

Thanks for the advice guys. I'll stick some plasters on until my current blisters heal. I'll get some running socks ASAP, and maybe get better shoes on payday.
-
Running socks?? I didn't even know that was a thing! Do they really make much difference?

Finally someone else in the thread who knows that a weight *loss* is normal, a weight *gain* is not! I was starting to feel like the madman preaching on the street corner

Exactly this. Gloves will chafe. Chalk is messy. Straps are the best option. In the long term you'll want to work on your grip. for now, straps will help you get more out of your deadlifts.

Calipers can be accurate but depend very much on the skill of the person using them, so usually two different people doing it for you will give massively different readings. Tests at a doctor or even in a lab will be more accurate. But your best bet in the home is to pick up some bio-impedence scales that measure it.…

You seem to be arguing against a point which isn't the point I'm making. You're saying that once you drink water, various factors can make you retain that water. And I completely agree with this; it's widely accepted. But this is not what our original poster was saying. They said that they had gained weight between two…

I just like the quote. Rippetoe is a funny guy :)

Straps will help a lot, and they're super cheap. I got mine on ebay for just a few ££s. There's plenty of stuff on youtube showing you how to use them. Some people say straps are "cheating", and that overall there's no substitute for strengthening your grip, which you will need to do anyway if you're serious about…

No way in hell do I trust that. I've used PVC pipe before, I've got a good idea how strong it is. No way does it take my 120kg in it's stride, especially not when it's stretched out over a length like that, losing it's tensile strength.

Honestly, you think the weight just comes from nowhere? out of thin air? Ludicrous. Once you drink a glass of water, that weight is included in what you see on the scale,in exactly the same way as if you stood on the scale holding the glass of water in your hand. If you drink 1 litre of water (1kg exactly) it weighs 1kg…

And everybody saying this is normal has clearly not read and understood your original post. Losing a few lbs overnight is completely normal. Gaining a few lbs overnight is not possible.

Several people have said it could be things like bloating, from things you drank before bed, or calories "catching up with you" from things you ate before your night-time weigh in. Sorry to be abrasive but these notions are utterly absurd. Calories being absorbed into your blood stream doesn't make you heavier. It just…

Honestly - if your weight change were the other way around then I'd agree with everybody else in this thread that it's normal (personally it's not uncommon for me to lose 5lbs a night). But the fact that you're heavier in the morning is odd. Very odd. When you weighed yourself at night and then again in the morning, what…

Yes a kilocalorie is 1000 calories, but these terms are most often (incorrectly) used interchangeably. When we talk about calories, what we really mean is kilocalories, but people just say calories instead. The figure of 1000 kilocalories is, in conversational terms, the same as 1000 calories.

man up ;) No seriously, I hadn't seen this when i posted my previous message. sorry.

Drink your milk. Pints after pints of it. Every day.

If you want to do the cardio for the sake of cardiovascular fitness then sure - go ahead. But for weight loss purposes, burning calories is redundant. If you didn't want those calories in your body, you could've just not eaten them in the first place. Why eat them just to burn them off - they cancel each other out so you…

There's a few in my gym who look like they might enjoy that a bit too much. Let's be honest, I'm one of them.....

First of all, props for best use of "babylons" I've seen in ages. In my opinion, I love big boobs, but when I say "big boobs" what I really mean is big relative to the girl. It's all about the boob-to-waist ratio. A smaller waist makes boobs more prominent. For that reason a skinny girl with a C cup is just as impressive…

Hmmm. Am I the only one who's gonna call bull**** on this??
