I gained a bunch of weight quickly and am now trying to take it off. Hopefully your journey will go smoothly but don't get discouraged by false starts (if you lose some then gain it back). Try to separate food from whatever else is going on so that even during a stressful week you're staying mostly on track. What I keep…

I have severe depression and I for now, do have time to exercise but sometimes have a hard time breaking through the mental negativity. As others have noted, exercise can do wonders for depression and in my experience, a short intense workout can give great results. That said, please don't feel like you should be able to…

I'm also facing challenges getting to the gym from depression and anxiety so I'd love to share ideas on how to better overcome that. And I have a large dog too! I keep reminding myself that my being healthier is good for her and having her means that I'm always getting at least a couple hours of activity, even if it's just…

Step on the scale-the actual results may not be as bad as you thought. Then remember-it's either give up or get back up and keep going. In a week or two your lapse will be far behind you if you don't waste time dwelling on it. Lapses are going to happen-don't get derailed by them. You're still doing great.

Thanks for all the kind replies. I did get back on the scale, and was not so happy with the results, but I've had three fantastic workouts in the last few days so I feel much better. Also, not to be too graphic, but opiates are notorious for causing constipation, so maybe I didn't just pack on a bunch of fat :) More…

I am so impressed by the progress you have made so far and your courage in undergoing this procedure. I hope all goes well and that you are back on your feet soon!

Congratulations! That's an amazing accomplishment. You're an inspiration.

You look amazing! Congratulations!

Congratulations! I love all these success stories. They give me hope and motivation to be able to post my own someday.

I agree with this poster. It's important to have an accurate assessment of where you are now and how many calories you are taking in. I also totally agree about experimenting to find the sweet spot. I monitor what I'm eating and how I feel during my workouts, as well as when I'm eating, to make sure I have enough energy…

I'm just starting too and have a similar amount to lose. I think my previous attempts to lose it have failed because I never really believed I would get there. Now I'm on the right track again and it's because of the people and success stories on this site that I really do believe I'll get there this time. Best of luck and…

I'm sorry to hear that she (and you) are going through this. I followed a similar pattern of always wanting to lose more weight despite being thin and fit (this was many years ago) and it ended in anorexia. Coming back from that left me at a higher set point with my weight and I never fully regained athletic ability.…

Yeah, I don't think I'll ever be happy with my weight but I'm hoping that I'll at least appreciate being thinner. I managed to get down to within 15 lbs of my goal a couple of years ago and I'm making progress now, but I worry that I won't stick with it. One thing that is different this time for me at least is that this…

Yup-that was exactly me. I joined weight watchers when I was 20 years old and 120lbs. My weight for most of my adult life was 130-135 and I was never happy with it. Now I'm just hoping to get back to that range. I'm headed in the right direction, but it's frustrating.

I'm not a doctor but I went through a similar experience with anorexia at the same age you are now. Please try to be patient with yourself. I know how hard it is emotionally to gain weight, and for me, once I started eating, it came on quickly but eventually leveled off and dropped back to a normal weight, without me…

Feel free to add me. I'm just coming back myself and trying really hard to stay focused and motivated this time around.

Sorry if someone has mentioned this, but you could consider quinoa. There are several different kinds and for vegetarians (I am one, and I don't eat eggs) it's a good way to add protein without adding a lot of fat. I'm also considering adding fish back into my diet since I eat out a lot and veggie options are often full of…

Feel free to add me. I'm working on both fitness and weight loss goals and can always use more support.:drinker:

I often have the opposite problem with people demanding to know why I eat what I eat (or dont), sometimes even trying to argue. I just tell them that it's not up for discussion, end of story. Then start talking about something else. If they persist, don't engage. Even leave the room if you have to. This is how I finally…

You look great! Your story is inspiring.

I like this post and am always a fan of discussions about people adding lifting to their regimens. In addition to all the great advice others have given, I would also note that the dynamics can really vary from gym to gym. A lot of gyms will give you a free pass to check it out. For me, I found my Crossfit gym to be the…

I think you're doing the right thing-having personal trainer show you the ropes so you're not intimidated by the gym. Depending on the type of gym, many weight machines have instructions. Don't be embarrassed to read them and ask if you have questions. Even if you just do one session where they show you what everything is.…

Sorry-me again- I don't know what your running regimen is but weights can really help you improve your run times. I took 10mins of my 10K time with not much running training but a whole lot of weight lifting.

You'll probably have to try a few different caloric levels and figure out what is enough to get a good workout. If possible, front load your calories a bit so you're not heading into a workout hungry (or at least not so hungry that you are sluggish.) This assumes you work out in the afternoon but if it's in the morning,…
