Organic is great, but you don't have to eat everything organic. Some foods naturally repel pesticides, and foods (like oranges) with thick skins don't absorb pesticides into the actual fruit, so it's a waste to pay more for those items. Someone had mentioned the list of 12 dirtiest foods, they are known as the "Dirty…

Really all I want is to tell her to stop eating the stems! I mean, grapes taste better than the stems, obviously, and she's eating the stems because she thinks they are more nutritious, not because she thinks they taste better lol

What worked for me was using a topical cream with capsaicin in it. You can find it in any drug store or the pharmacy in Wal-Mart. Capsaicin is the active ingredient in peppers, that makes them hot, and it basically temporarily paralyses the nerve cells. My pain was from a torn muscle in my back that healed poorly and left…

Thank you everyone for the honest answers! I do yoga so I'm not too worried about losing muscle mass. I have a gym membership, but I hate going in the winter (I'm in Canada and it's cold, I'd rather stay home and do yoga lol), but when I start going back to the gym I will up my calories, because I know that will be too big…

Unless you become morbidly obese, you body stops creating fat cells after adolescence. If someone was obese in childhood/adolescence, they will have more fat cells than someone who became obese in adulthood. Once they are there, they don't go away (except through surgery), they just get smaller... but remember, a cell is…

I would say, don't do it. When I was thin, and started gaining weight, I bought a bunch of new clothes in the size I was before I started gaining weight, as motivation.... it didn't work, and there are some pairs of jeans I have NEVER worn, that I have had for over 5 years.... it's actually depressing. I don't get rid of…

When you lose weight, your BMR will change. But don't just change your intake because you lost weight. If you continue losing weight, leave it. If you hit a plateau, adjust it.
-
Yeah, I guess you don't really need to get your BMR, I forgot TDEE calculators included that (it's been a while since I calculated mine). I was thinking that the TDEE calculator would ask for your BMR, but I guess it would ask for your height/weight.

So many things can affect your cycle... mine changed recently, out of nowhere. It has come like clockwork every 28 days for YEARS, then randomly a couple months ago, I got one period, and got another one 10 days later, and now I'm on a new cycle I guess... they are back to 28 days apart, but off track from when they…

Go find your BMR (just googled BMR calculator). Then find your TDEE (also can be found on Google). To lose 2lbs per week, subtract 1000 from your TDEE and that should be your daily calorie goal. This will create a deficit of 1000 calories per day, or 7000 per week. 3500 calories is a pound, so that will have you losing…

Eating them back is your choice. If you are using exercise to create your calorie deficit, then don't. If you are already eating a deficit and exercising, you could be creating too big of a deficit, which may or may not be safe, depending on how much weight you have to lose. If you have more than 50lbs to lose, you can…

I makes sense, actually. Like every other cell in your body, your taste buds are constantly regenerating, and you get used to the tastes of the foods you eat. Like the phrase, "acquired taste", you can acquire a taste for the things you eat all the time, and lose taste for the things you stop eating. I don't know that this…

I have always thought that I was fat... and looking back, I think I may have been suffering from a little body dysmorphia. I am 5'8, and I remember weighing 145lbs, and thinking I was fat. My BMI was 22.0, I was at an ideal weight and all I saw was fat. I still have a diary I kept at that time, and my goal was 120, which…

If you're not having adverse health effects, then maybe you don't really need to quit. I have struggled with Diet Coke addiction for years. I'm not talking a can a day, like I mean, I am on my 5th can today alone. I have quit 3 times and it has never lasted. Every time I quit it was because I was having issues: constant…

I don't plan cheat days or cheat meals, I try to keep all organic stuff in my house so I'm eating clean the majority of the time, but I don't deny myself treats, like today I had ice cream with friends. The way you eat is part of your life, not your whole life, life's too short to never have a treat... If most of your…

Yes, you're right, that's what I was trying to do. You caught me, transfats are perfectly safe. They don't increase LDL or decrease HDL, they don't increase the risk of heart disease and strokes, and they certainly don't contribute to diabetes. So go for it, eat as much processed and fast food as you want, and let it…

Yes, that's right. The post saying grass fed beef has higher transfat was incorrect.
-
I didn't read it, but does it say who funded the study by any chance? Food and beverage companies fund most of the studies that, not surprisingly, deem their product as safe.
-
They want to ban artificial transfats, like the stuff in margarine. I guess I should have been more specific. Most people when they talk about transfats are talking about things like hydrogenated oils and things that are modified and manufactured. Transfat in beef that is raised naturally is not going to hurt people.…

I mostly use plain Greek yogurt as a smoothie base. I love regular flavoured yogurt, but I'm always way under on protein so I've been switching things up to get my protein higher... but plain Greek yogurt I cannot eat on it's own. I put strawberries and blueberries in mine, and mix in a little honey to sweeten it, and it's…

I believe you have that backwards. You want to go for grass-fed beef. Cows naturally eat grass, eating grains is unnatural, and it makes them sick, which is part of the reason they preemptively pump them full of antibiotics (that, and to stop them from getting sick in the overcrowded populations of factory farms).…

Watch the documentary "Food, Inc", gives you some insight into Monsanto, and also talks about the revolving door between the food industry and the FDA. Corporations control the FDA, so they can get a lot of stuff passed as safe that shouldn't be. I'm thankful to live in Canada because, while far from perfect, our…

For everyone talking about moderation, self-control, forbidden foods, etc, please remember that everyone is DIFFERENT. Everyone who is trying to lose weight gained it for different reasons and in different ways. Willpower is like a muscle, and some people's willpower isn't as strong as others. That doesn't mean there is…

I remember reading once: "When you hear the words 'low fat', think 'chemical **** storm'". Diet foods are not good for you, for multiple reasons. One of the big ones is they do make you think they are 'safe' foods, and you end up over indulging because you know they are low in calories and you don't realize you are…

If you only have a small amount of weight to lose, you should aim for a deficit of no more than 500 calories a day. When you are close to your ideal weight, your body is going to fight back because it's programmed to store fat. 1200 is not a magic number, you need to find your BMR and TDEE (A google search will bring up…

Very few people on here even seem to know what starvation mode means... eating under 1200 cannot make you gain weight. Your body cannot create fat from nothing, it needs calories, and it can't create it's own calories either. If you ate 300 calories a day you would lose weight, even in starvation mode, but you would screw…
-
As long as you are eating over 1200 you will be fine. You have a fairly substantial weight to lose, so it's ok to have a bigger deficit... when you get closer to your goal weight you will want to re-evaluate and you might need to start eating more then to see the weight continue to come off, but at this point, when you are…

I'm 29, not married, no kids... I don't want to have children, but I would like to be a mother, and I have always wanted to adopt, since I was a kid... everyone thinks that's weird, and always say "you'll change your mind when you meet the right guy"... doubtful. It breaks my heart that so many kids need a home, which is…

Lack of carbs is most likely why you are tired, because you need energy! As for eating back exercise calories, that's a tricky question. If you have a lot of weight to lose, you can get away with creating a huge calorie deficit, because you have a ton of stored fat to rely on for energy. The point is, you want to set your…
