  • I travel 2-3 days a week. My trainer has helped me identify some strategies that work for me. I primarily do in state travel for work. Is your travel in state or out? Traveling in state to the same locations has made it relatively easy because I know where I can find a decent grocery stores, restaurants, and hotels that…
  • I do it when I'm injured and can't/shouldn't run. The water minimizes the pounding on my knees. If it's easier (i.e., my HR isn't high enough) than running on dirt/grass/pavement or treadmill, then I didn't work as hard as I usually do on land. I've heard trainers suggest running in water to people who have alot to lose or…
  • Have had it for over 20 years. Three years ago had a thyroidectomy. Diagnosis was a surprise to me too. Didn't have any classic symptoms. When I first started on meds I would get a bit jittery if I was overmedicated. Took a while for endocrinologist to figure out correct dosage. Now I don't really think about it.
  • Her new boyfriend is looking good. You're doing great!
  • Your powerful words make it clear that you will not gain it back and you will lose the rest of the weight. Amazing story. And cheers to your doc who helped you put your injury into perspective. She/he is in your corner and also believes in you.
  • I'm on the road alot for work. 1. Pack a cooler with hard boiled eggs, almonds, greek yoghurt, and protein bars that contain at least 20 grams of protein. Even when I fly for work, I carry a collapsible cooler and find a grocery store to buy healthy foods. 2. Pack a water bottle and fill it with hotel ice in the morning…
  • My tough as nails trainer commented that she can see my weight loss in my face and in my hips.
  • Agree that the less sugar I eat the less I want. When I really want sweets, there is always at least 1 person in my friends/family who prefers to split something with me. Went to lunch with three friends this week and we split a piece of peach pie 4 ways. We all had our sugar fix and I didn't feel deprived.
  • I have occasional flare ups that are alleviated with foam rolling (then my trainer reminds me that I need to foam roll every day). I try running and if it hurts I walk. Usually flare ups last no longer than a week. Sometimes the foam roller isn't enough and then I use a Kong ball to foam roll. The Kong really gets into any…

  • no need to apologize for your great news. If I were you, I would keep the size tag on the new pants and "accidentally" keep it visible to all. Well done.
  • I'm with you all. My 91 and 92 year old parents require much support. Fortunately they live two blocks from my house. I've been able to access the city's senior home delivered meals so I'm not cooking all the time for my house and their house, my dad's PCP comes to the house (VA home based program that not many know…
  • happens to me if i wear thin socks. No problem when I wear thick socks. Thick socks fill the gaps around my ankle.
  • How about running in water. Will help keep your running muscles strong, but the water minimizes the pounding on the joints. Either run in place or run across the width of the pool. The deeper the water the more cardio benefit because more of your arms will be under water. I've used this alternative to running twice because…

  • New man! Bravo.
  • Title 9 (titlenine.com) rates their sport bras. The more barbells the better the bra supports The Girls. If you run, then you need a bra with more barbells. If you are looking for a bra to do yoga or weightlifting, then you probably can use a bra with fewer barbells. They also have a few brick and mortar stores across the…
  • My reward will be a week at one of those wellness, fitness, outdoorsy resorts that has a great spa. I'm looking at one in Utah.
  • spaghetti squash is a winter squash. Unlike zucchini which I can buy year round, I only find spaghetti squash during fall and winter. Sometimes it's placed near thanksgiving displays in grocery stores. Near the gourds and pumpkins.
  • Lisa, you earned bragging rights. Awesome! Keep going.
  • I've used a portabello as a pizza crust and it is delicious. Dig out the gills, dump in some pasta sauce where the gills were (not too much or it will get soupy), sprinkle a bit of low fat mozarella cheese and grill it. I've also put grilled chicken on top for protein.
  • And Friday is National Doughnut Day (heard it on NPR this morning). I'd rather have a doughnut. Candy I can do without.
  • I quit buying it in large bottles or a case at a time. I was having at least 1/day. I now have 2-3/week. If I want a can or bottle I buy only one can or bottle. I also work out of my home so if I want one I walk to the convenience store located a few blocks from my house. My rule is that I won't drive anywhere for a soda.…
  • shoulder impingement? Happened to me doing assisted pull ups.
  • squash, tomatoes, cucumbers, green chile, and a variety of herbs. Squash are in full bloom right now.

  • Tuna in single serve cans or bags is my go to protein when I don't have access to cooler. I buy the tuna in the single serve cans or ziplock bags at generic grocery store. I also put dry protein shake powder in a shaker cup and then add water when I'm ready to eat (not my favorite options because I like real food, but I…
  • Will you accept a 54 y.o. friend who is working to lose 50? Been doing this for about two months. Down 17 pounds. Not doing liquid diet. Instead eating clean, cardio 5-6 times/week and strength training 2 times/week. Not a group exerciser (too much like high school PE) but love to walk and feel fortunate that I live near a…
  • I add protein powder to greek yoghurt. That increases my breakfast protein to about 25 gms. I also dump in a T of ground flax for good fat.
  • I have Adblock. It's free and it blocks ads. I read about it on an IT blog. Google it and download it for free. The developer wants users to pay for it, but you don't have to. Apparently it works because I didn't know that MFP has ads. Software also blocks most ads on FB. Glad to learn that I'm missing ads for pizza.

  • 16 pounds lost and I'm just noticing my clothes are looser. I carry my weight in my hips and back end. Consequently, that's where the weight is coming off.
  • Look at those guns! you look awesome.
  • I can tell you my experience. I've been lactose intolerant for about 10 years. My sensitivity has increased over time. I can still eat greek yogurt and organic lactose free milk is fine. I used to be able to eat cheese occasionally. I don't touch cheese anymore. My sister has had a similar experience with her symptoms.
