  • Split and sprinkled with lime or Cholula hot sauce. Sometimes I put tuna in a half and drizzle with vinagrette or citrus juice. Peach mango salsa on a half is good, too. Oh, and it goes great sliced and served with fish and shellfish. Use in place of mayo in some foods like sandwich and salads. Very versatile food!

  • Oh, and I love whole raw milk taste wise. It is very creamy and good for you despite the fat (which isn't a bad thing if your overall diet is good).. But as I've gotten older, as others have mentioned, it does not love me back so much! So for now, my only dairy is cheese or greek yogurt, both of which are fine for most…
  • All of the above except soy (I have a thyroid problem and soy is no bueno for that) and I stay away from non fat milk (high sugars, very little nutrition after pasteurization and processing). I would add oat milk if you can find it (I can find Pacific brand here). 4g of protein, 25% of your vitamin D, 30% of your daily…
  • ^^This. But also rye and barley, including malt which is a barley product. And some oats are not GF. Check the sugars and quite a few additives in products. Some of those unpronounceable names are gluten containing products or derivatives. Just do a search on gluten, you'll find a list. It depends on how sensitive you are…

  • Oh. Addicted to gluten hadn't occured to me as a reason for the detox. I didn't know what you meant by gluten detox, but now that makes more sense. My daughter was diagnosed with celiacs her freshman year of college when she threw up everything she ingested (dorm food was FULL of glutinous grains ortheir derivatives, and…

  • Have you tried oat milk? Sometimes, also, if you mix a few different types of milks (oat, coconut, almond, etc) you can find a taste you like. I can only do it in smoothies, though. I don't do well drinking milk by itself anymore, but I am not bothered by a bit of cheese (its a treat, so I splurge on the good stuff) or…
  • Actually, the processed food producers pretty much do, as stated before, by upping the amount of salt and sugar in almost everything. When my daughter started to show signs of sugar sensitivity, we started reading labels in order to cut down on sugar intake and found added sugars in things that didnt used to have them and…
  • I'm a M. Pollan fan. Really enjoyed both "In Defense of Food" and Omnivore's Dilemma". Have not read the new one. Sounds like you enjoyed it, though? Never thought I would enjoy books about food (other than cookbooks) as much as I enjoy his.
  • They do if there is cream involved! IMO
  • I have the same issues. 1)At family functions and parties, make sure what you are eating is on a plate. That may sound strange, but when you can see what you are eating and the amounts as opposed to grabbing a few chips and dipping, or having just a taste of that, it allows you to account for what you have without pulling…
  • Totally agree! Fat free half and half cracks me up! It has more sugar in it it, too.
  • This^^^. No sugar in my coffee would make me give up coffee, which some people would say was a good choice, but I'm personally not ready for that. Most of the sweetners out there and a lot of the flavored creamers are TOO sweet, or have a subtle taste that I dont care for. So back to 1/2 and 1/2 or whole milk and sugar I…
  • Same here, actually. I"m a smoothie for breakfast person myself or egg and veggie dishes when I have a little more time to be fully awake. But juicing to detox and get back in balance is a good way to go, too!
  • Oh, my.This ^^^ !
  • Vosges or Scharffenburger, for me so far...
  • There is a great documentary out called "Fat, Sick, and Nearly Dead" (scary title, I know) about a man who goes through a weight loss/detox program with a doctors help and his influence on others to do the same. There is also a website of the same name with lots of very yummy recipes and info ..I think it is…
  • Me, too! I've started enjoying dark chocolate more and more and there are more types showing up every day, it seems. Chocolate has always been a weakness, but I don't need as much to make me happy. 1-3 squares is all it takes. Also, I really like Scharffenburger (sp?) and Vosges bars, but they are more expensive (esp. the…

  • I'm 5'9" and I really dont know what I put for my goal weight, I think I threw out 155. I was 125-130 when I was married and could eat an entire pizza plus whatever else was lying around and was accused of being anorexic. After having kids and an underactive thyroid, those days have long since passed. I did do a protein…
  • Whoa...wheat? Well, that explains a lot. My daughter has celiacs and I know that those were a treat for her. She's usually really careful when eating out at restaurants, but sometimes she calls to tell me she has know idea why she would have the symptoms. Wonder if she knows about this. She's really gluten sensitive!

  • -_- . Most people who eat at McDonalds are not talking about eating a side salad, but I'll take your bait. It is a side, not a meal, so unless it is eaten with something else, which I would assume is also from Mickie D's, it probably won't be very filling and will cost more than just grabbing a bagged salad or head of…

  • So here's the thing. This is a forum titled "Introduce yourself". This person asks if anyone else would like to eat healthier and if they would, to go ahead and add her. HOW IS THIS JUDGEMENTAL OR RUDE? She is looking for people with a similar interest to form a support group for this program...to HELP her. If you eat fast…

  • It kind of depends on your personal preferences and eating schedule (whats comfy for you). I like a good breakfast and big dinner with a small lunch and afternoon snack. So a typical day for me would be a fruit, greens and oat or almond milk smoothy for breakfast (chia or plain almond/peanut butter helps with protein) or a…
  • This is true and I should have been more specific as to what KIND of sugar since I was trying be helpful. Thanks for making that more clear! Also the types of fats . But I was trying to generalize as a response to what was said. Fruit is tasty and sugary, but very beneficial nutrient-wise.

  • Please don't feel sorry for me. I love food. Especially chocolate! If you re-read my post, I was replying to someone who said it was not inherently UNHEALTHY. Fat, salt, and sugar are NECCESSARY parts of a healthy diet. However, most fast food has an OVERABUNDANCE of one or more of these along with a processing technique…

  • Actually fast food IS inherently unhealthy. While one can lose weight while eating it, don't believe the marketing masters who want you to believe their product is good for your health. If it isn't full of fat, its full of salt, or sugar, or processed to the point of having very little nutrient value and lots of "fillers".…
