  • There are a million different opinions. In my opinion, once you reach a basic level of fitness, much much much less as far as time goes but much much much harder than what you are used to is the way to go. If you don't feel as though you are about to die when you finish, you didn't go hard enough. The human body is funny…
  • I'm sorry but the first thought that popped into my head when I saw the title of this thread was, "Well, not if they ever want to win."
  • You can talk about size and strength all you want, but there are other differences as well. For instance, in golf for all the emphasis on monster drives you'll find the average male pro to be FAR superior to the average female pro on and around the greens. And that is despite the fact than on an average tour setup, the…
  • I lost about 40 pounds starting two years ago and doing cardio. It took me about six months. I slacked off some on the cardio and gained about ten pounds back (but I needed to, I was too skinny) and was pretty much maintaining. Starting at the first of December I started weight training. I was a rank beginner at it. I'm…
  • The article makes sense to me. If you consider the body and engine and the food the fuel, it makes perfect sense. You might have to types of fuel with the same energy contained therein. If you poured both types of fuel on a fire, they would release the same energy. On the other hand, if you ran them through an engine it…
  • I don't have a sweet tooth, never ate all that much pasta or bread. My only weaknesses were potatoes and rice. So, for me, low carb, though not paleo, was the way to go and has been very easy for me to maintain. I can stay under a hundred carbs a day without even trying.
  • Generally, I use lard or butter.
  • I can and have, eaten a pound of potatoes as a side to the rest of my meal. Three tablespoons of oil is likely to have me puking.
  • All calories are not equal. Low carb does work. That said, a low carb diet is often a calorie restricted diet as well. Go eat 1800 calories of standard fare. You're going to be hungry all the time and find that it is really easy to get up to that amount of calories. You could probably do it in one meal and not feel too bad…
  • To me a low carb diet is the easiest to follow. Simply cut potatoes, pasta, rice, bread, processed foods, and sugar from your diet and you'll lose weight. It isn't necessary to get insane about it, but it you'll go most meals without eating any of those, you're going to lose weight. On the other hand some French fries with…
  • Call me crazy, but if I want a burger, I eat a burger. Now, I may eat a kid's burger, skip the fries, or eat a full sized one and eat nothing else the rest of the day, but I just eat one. I don't really figure I'll succeed in this for very long if I go around craving certain foods. In fact, I don't think I really want to…
  • I obsessively weigh myself every time I go into the bathroom. I've gotten a pretty good picture of how my weight fluctuates during the day and I can actually now predict pretty accurately what I will weigh at any given moment based on what I last weighed and how I feel. I will be at my heaviest at the end of the day no…
  • I wouldn't worry about it much quite frankly. I'm 42 and I've lost about 15 in just a little less time. I'm a couple inches taller than you and I started out a few pounds lighter, but the weights are pretty much the same. I don't do much strength training and but I've actually noticed that my muscles look better because as…
