Nuts, I find them very satisfying. If you're worried about over-doing, you can always portion them into individual servings. I also recommend keeping instant powdered hummus on hand. Is it as awesome as from-scratch hummus? No, but very convenient, and you can make as much or little as you like.

Neither. My goal is increasing what I can do.

Start strength training. Reduce added fats/oils in my diet. Sign up for a 5k.

I weigh daily, but only log new lows or once a week, whichever comes first. My weight fluctuates a *lot*, so I don't get hung up on highs and lows, but I find the daily ritual motivating.

I use TVP in place of ground meat in recipes. Less calories.

I love nuts, too. I also like wasabi peas, any kind of fresh fruit, and popcorn. Sparkles, I love guava paste too! Been a long time since I've had any, not sure our local store carries it.

I will be sure to pick up a cucumber this week at the store, but I think I'll stick with my traditional hummus & cucumber sandwich!

I second the refrigerator oats suggestion. Cold breakfasts are great during the summer, and I prefer the taste of soaked oats to cooked oats anyway. In the morning, I sprinkle a little dry cereal on top before eating, for crunch! http://www.theyummylife.com/Refrigerator_Oatmeal

Future purchases I have planned for my mini-goals: new walking shoes, exercise equipment, clothes. For major milestones I want to celebrate with a hiking day-trip.

Ooo, I'm craving that now! Will buy some when I'm at the store tomorrow, for the days I forget to make overnight oats.

Be sure to drink plenty of water every day. Those baby carrots make great snacks!

I just try to eat modest portions, then list what I ate in the Food Notes section.

Yes, the sugar macro is useless, replace it with something else.

I used to get whole flax seed and grind them in a coffee grinder. I'd put a Tablespoon on/in my morning cereal. Now I buy flax oil, less fuss and more versatile. One teaspoon oil = one Tablespoon ground seeds.

Feeling *so* much better emotionally, now that I'm walking every day!

My other half is using mfp as well. We just got to the point where we wanted to be healthier.

On your next visit, take a notepad and take notes while he's talking to you. And then ask him, "So you are actually recommending unnecessary surgery when I am successfully losing weight without it? Do you mind if I record these consultations?" Or get a decent doctor.

If you have a staircase inside, that can be a good workout. Just take them slowly and only do a few reps at first, if you haven't been exercising. I do recommend the sunshine! Always makes me feel better.

I've always found chamomile tea to be relaxing.

Right now, I prefer morning because it's cooler!

They have stickied posts in the General Help forum with a lot of helpful links, but not in the Food or Exercise forums. It might be helpful to copy the stickied posts to those forums. It also might be nice to have stickied Q & A posts where new people could ask questions. "Have a question? Ask here first" sort of thing.

I'm more likely to comment on a major day-milestone than a weight loss, but that's just me. I don't really expect any of my friends to comment on the auto-generated posts, I'd rather they commented on the posts I write :)

I suggest making generous use of the 'ignore user' feature, I know I do. It makes the forums much more readable. I ignore people who are ignorant and/or d*cks rather than profane, but whatever floats your boat.

Oh, and don't base your opinion of lettuce on iceberg. There are many lovely lettuces out there, but I dislike iceberg as it has always smelled vaguely rotten to me. Have you tried the shredded broccoli 'slaw'? I like making quick salads with it!

I would also suggest trying things more than once. There have been some foods that I didn't like the first couple of times I tried them, but love now! Give yourself a chance to get used to new things.
