I prefer eating oats that have been soaked overnight, rather than cooked. I think the flavor is much better.

I agree. I log everything, but it's not like I'm pulling out a food scale for the salad greens.

Carrots, celery, shredded broccoli, shredded cabbage, onions, bell peppers, new potatoes, sweet potatoes. When they are in season: tomatoes, cucumbers, summer squash, brussel sprouts.

I say just give yourself a chance to adjust to less salt. Things will taste bad at first, but then you will learn to appreciate flavors that aren't overwhelmed by salt.

I consider myself vegan, even though I'm not always a strict label reader, even though my main reason for becoming vegan wasn't ethical. Shockingly, I even eat honey. I became vegan for my physical health, for my spiritual health, for the planet's health. I believe non-violence is an unattainable ideal that is nevertheless…

I buy chocolate-flavored peanut butter instead.

Planning this week's grocery trip. Will be trying out new healthy recipes!

Mushrooms. I have a genetic mutation that makes me unable to break down one of the molecules that's prevalent in them.

Personally, I track calories, fiber, iron, calcium, vit A, and vit C and don't worry about the rest. It makes me feel more sane :) No one can agree on what percentages to use for carb/fat/protein anyway.

It's an easy thing to get caught up in. I try not to even read topics here that I think are overly focused on it, and I decided that I wouldn't display a tracker (even though I went and designed one!). I do weigh every day, but I don't track it that often, as I know how much it fluctuates and am not impatient about weight…

I like this idea. Almost all of our groceries are real food, but we have the occasional treat when we're out and about.

I just wanted to add there is no shame in race walking your first 5k. The important thing is the cancer research and becoming more active. Do what feels right for your body.

Add cocoa powder to your favorite instant oatmeal.

dried apricots, Kalamata olives

We have one in a cabinet somewhere. I'll probably pull it out if I hit a plateau, or I get tired of counting peanuts :)
-
Ooo, thanks for the tip about ginger syrup, will probably order some when it's back in stock! :)

Scanning through a few of the comments here, it's obvious that this site has a large number of people that think numbers are more important than a healthy lifestyle. I would love to have someone as positive as you as a mfp friend.

I do think fresh vegetables are very important, but in certain situations canned veggies are undeniably convenient. It's easy enough to buy canned veggies that don't have added salt (a serving of no-salt-added green beans has 15 mg of sodium), and there's nothing wrong with eating them on occasion.

I don't juice because I'm too lazy to clean a juicer :)
-
I would suggest more vegetables and fruit. Just add them in slowly, to give yourself time to adjust to the increased fiber.
-
I would say only eat at the dining room/kitchen table. Less likely to overeat, and will be able to appreciate the food better.

The mfp sugar macro is silly, I don't use it. I try to eat a variety of fruit every day, a piece of fruit with every meal.
-
I don't keep caffeine around the house or use it in my daily routine, but as I have chronic mild depression, I drink caffeine socially :)

Mixed nuts and fresh fruit is my standby when I'm rushed for time. Very portable, too.

Walking/hiking nature trails.

I eat kiwis like apples, skin and all! Cherries, watermelon, bananas, clementines, peaches, pears...and this isn't fresh fruit, but I love Medjool dates!

I don't even have macros displayed, not helpful, I display vitamins and minerals instead. If you're worried about protein, have a cup of beans every day and a handful of nuts. You'll be fine. I might suggest flax oil or ground flax seeds, for healthy fat.
-
I also enjoy sweet potatoes baked in the microwave, top them with black beans and salsa

The night before I'll combine rolled oats, almond milk, ground flaxseeds, peanut butter, and some kind of fruit. I leave it in a sealed container in the fridge overnight, and eat it cold topped with a little Total cereal. You can heat it up if you like, but it tastes great cold.
