Well, for me, MFP has my goal at 1370. That is 500 below my BMR (Burned at Rest in 24 hours.) So when it comes to the exercise cals, it just depends. I don't force them down, but if i am hungry, I might eat SOME of them. But I have no hard set rule. Sorry, I know that wasn't helpful. But if eating them is causing you to…

Man, no kidding. One of my favorite things to eat when hungry, PRE MFP, was a large Chicken Finger Plate from Zaxby's. 1773 Calories!!!!!!!!!!! That is 400 more than my daily goal, so obviously, now I have to adjust what I eat there. If I am craving it, I order the 5 chicken tenders by themselves, and then get a size…

Sorry that happened to you. Restaurant dining is HARD when you are trying to diet. You just never know what they are putting in it for seasoning, oil, etc. And, you can't be sure on the portion size either. A lot of them give you WAY too much of anything, even healthy food like grilled fish. The one suggestion I have is to…

I ran 28 minutes straight today for the first time since 1990 when I graduated Marine Corps Boot Camp at Paris Island. I also took back two pairs of Jeans from my son because they had gotten too tight, but now fit again.

As a side note, I used the site's calculator to determine my calorie intake. 2406 on up days and then exercise to burn some of that off. 481 on down days. Man, that would take some SERIOUS discipline.
-
Well, its only every other day, not every day. And you do NO exercise on the down days. But yea, it would still take some huge discipline. Kudos to the OP for being able to do it. 10 lbs in 8 - 10 days is pretty crazy weight loss.

Looks to basically be a diet where you alternate 500 calorie days and then free days to eat what you want (not over eat, but normal calorie levels) with exercise. Also, for the first two weeks, they suggest you eat prepackaged shakes and bars to ensure you are at 500 calories only on the down days. Fascinating really.…

Such an inspiration! Good job and thanks for sharing!

Great job! I predict... A bikini in your future. Keep up the good work!!

It's a hard message to hear, but, it's the truth.

Thanks everyone!! Speaking of the scale rewarding me with a loss, I did have a quick question that probably belongs on another sub board but thought I would ask here. Does everyone lose weight the way I do? I assume not but how I lose it is frustrating as heck. I will go a week at the same weight or around it and then…

Try this web site and see what it says: http://www.braydenwm.com/calburn.htm But yes, that heart rate seems high. Mine usually hovers in the 130's while running, and I run slow for someone with my build in the 5 MPH range.

Awesome!!!

You need to use the BMR calculator to calculate approx. how much your body will burn at rest. Then, if you burn 300 at the GYM, I would think that you would want to stay around BMR + Burned to maintain. I have a question for you. You state that you lost "a lot of weight recently" by doing a 1200 calorie diet and no…
-
Actually, that MAY not be that excessive. I am 6'2, 201, and I burn approximately 1904 calories a day at rest. Your brain burns more calories in a day than you can ever hope to burn at a gym. Trust me on that one. It burns calories to keep your lungs pumping, your heart pumping, sending the electronic signals to all your…

I would say the most inaccurate thing is the calories burned for things, as many have eluded to above. I basically use my average heart rate over my work out, and plug it in to this site: http://www.braydenwm.com/calburn.htm

The only thing you should "give up" is spontaneous drinking at the last minute. If you have already consumed your cals for the day, and then someone calls you up and once to go out, you are basically screwed unless you say no. This is what I have done and it works for me. Now, if it is planned early enough in the day, I…

Congrats! 21 pound IS a big deal, so well done! Don't believe me? Next time you are out and about, stop at a Good Year or other tire place, and grab an average car tire from them and hang it around your neck and carry it with you for a bit. Yup, that's about 21 pounds, give or take a pound. Then you will know you have lost…

25 Pounds is VERY significant. That is the weight of an average 2 year old child. Congrats on the loss and having a man that came up with a neat idea of how to show you the significance. I never even thought of doing that before, but it is a great idea.

Nice one Alec!

Wow! Keep up the good work!! Feels amazing I bet!
-
That is awesome! I have a few pair of jeans, where I have to do the belt so tight now, that you can see them bunching up around the waste in spots. Feels good doesn't it? Of course, I am waiting to buy anything new as LONG as I possibly can, but that day where I go to buy new clothes will be special.

Preach it!!!

Well, I have been doing MFP since January 26. (53 days total.) I have lost 18 pounds in that time. (More than 2 a week.) I hoard every day pretty much for the exact reason you say. Now, it may be having other negative effects on me that I don't know about and I admit that. But as far as weight loss, I don't think it isn't…

Well, what do you do for a living that you walk that much if you don't mind me asking? You should either: Set your profile to sedentary and count those calories, or, set it to active and not count them. But don't set it to sedentary and also not count them. You should do one or the other, just not both. :)
-
I will use my numbers for an example of how this works. My BMR (Daily Burn Rate at REST) is roughly 1900. If you click on Tools at the top of this site, there is a BMR calculator there. These are the amount of cals I will burn in a day if I do NOTHING, as in, sit in a chair. My brain burns this running my body, keeping my…

Well. What MFP and these other sites have are not accurate really. Everyone is different. If I do the elliptical for 30 minutes and you do as well, the calories burned may be no where near the same. Your weight plays in as well as the resistance setting on the elliptical. I usually do it this way: MFP PLUS Equipment PLUS…

My primary duty stations were Kaneohe Bay, Hawaii and El Toro, California. Yes, I know, such misery. I also did a 6 month UDP in Iwakuni Japan. (Lord, please look in on those folks over there. They need all the help they can get.) Tell him I said Semper Fi!

Yea, after seeing a lot of pics, it seems that you have to wait in line at the obstacles. That probably gives you time to catch your breath if you are out of breath.

Your goal for the treadmill should be just over 4.7 MPH in that case. 4.7 MPH would put you right around 40 minutes for 3.1 Miles. You can do it!!
