Wow! Thanks for sharing that with us. This breast cancer thing is a battle for all of us and you've sure had your share recently. I too started on that downward spiral. I started to need a cane, couldn't walk much and either developed a stroke or MS from all the things this disease manifests itself into. I made big pots of…

Hello Quppy! That's great that you lost your first couple of pounds... after those first initial few pounds it gets easier. The numbness sounds horrible. I've had some strange numbness in my feet too. It has all gone away since I started to exercise. I joined a gym called Curves and most of my numbness, tingling and…

I heard the story that my swelling wouldn't go down for months as well and then I went to Yoga and basically laid on a firm pillow between my shoulder blades and hung my arms on the floor for 5 or 10 minutes everytime I did Yoga and the fluid disappeared. I thought that was amazing. Again, I will harp on "it's not how much…

You are very welcome. Last night my daughter and I sat down and ate a bowl of cherries together. She looked at me and said "most people would be eating a bowl of chips." Then she said "loosing 30 pounds was the hardest thing I ever did in my life." Then we agreed: To lose the weight all you have to do is change WHAT you…

Hi Tap To answer your question...If you read the side effects of Tamoxifen you can see that it can cause cataracts. I developed cataracts, likely from the Tamoxifen, and that in turn caused Angle Closure Glaucoma. This caused me to nearly go blind. The trick is to get your eyes checked by an ophthalmologist frequently when…

Hi there. Don't fret. You will lose the weight. I'm in menopause and yes, dieting still works. I do notice more- that my skin suffers from the menopause. .. I am starting to get the chicken skin looking kind of neck. I find that using olive oil on my skin at night seems to help a lot and keeps it soft. I thought the…

http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/22234628 Here's an article on breast cancer and Vitamin D that you can copy-paste into your browser to view. The recommended dose of Vitamin D is 4000 in adults and 2000 in children to prevent M.S and certain types of cancers according to the MS Society Website.

Welcome to our group! I had breast cancer in 2001, then again in 2010, then I just about went blind in January from Angle Closure Glaucoma, ( a silent thing I got from the cataracts that were caused by the Tamoxifen. After which I just got diagnosed with M.S. Go figure? Bad luck or what! All I can say is to eat 3 to 4…

I have that too. I describe it like the computer program called Photoshop. When you start distorting the photo, that's what my vision is like. It's like an Optical Migraine. Except it's only in one spot in my eye. A squiggly moving vision distortion.

Wow! You are right about the markings for the radiation. (Although, I don't think I could lose enough weight in 3 weeks to mess that up anyway. haha )... oh dear! I seem to like to eat lately. If I didn't eat my vegetables I would weigh 4000 pounds! I just made a vegetable sandwich. One piece of bread with low calorie…

Thank you so much! When I first joined MFP, I couldn't help but study the diets of the anorexics on this interesting and informative diet site. ...(You know how some people let you read their diaries). ...Well, there are some people on MFP that are trying to gain weight and some that want to lose weight and some that are…

Hi there. Just joined your group. Just wondering if anyone has tried Curcumin? I am waiting to see a neurologist at the MS clinic for the first time and the wait is long to see the specialist. In the meantime I have been randomly taking it - and my balance is pretty much better and good now. It's probably a coincidence?…

Vegetables are the least desirable things for me to eat too! I try to trick myself by using nuts instead of croutons and mashed cauliflower instead of mashed potatoes. Things like that. ...Best wishes with your radiation treatments. Please check in and let us all know how you are doing. If anyone is having difficulties…

Seventy pounds! Congratulations. That is so wonderful.

Hello Danette! Welcome! I'm glad you joined our group. Yes, you can still lose weight when you are doing the radiation. A good way is to increase your protein. You will feel more energy. The other day I had liver (yuk!) and vegetables for lunch and I felt so energetic! It was amazing. I don't generally eat organ meats but…

Oh, I hear what you are saying. In Victoria, Canada, they are on the cutting edge of cancer treatment. They have an "Inspire the World" Cancer Clinic there. That's likely what they are likely copying. If that's the case, you are fine. I did hear something about them doing that. They are actually on the leading edge. That's…

Hi Netter 43. I'm with you about that Tamoxifen. I didn't like it either. Tamoxifen also slows down your metabolism. So it does tend to make it harder to lose weight. Instead of eating comfort foods I boil up a whole bunch of vegetables and eat them with different things to make the taste less boring. (For supper tonight I…

The paper I was given was from the BC Cancer Agency, Care and Research, the dietitian gave it to me. It says The following products, pills, powders, teas etc are known to contain hormones in a variety of doses and formulations (Activated 1 Nov 2002, Revised June 2005, and July 2008) It says to- Check the product label…

Wow! Hey girls, listen to this... I was getting symptoms that made me think I had brain metastases. (Breast cancer, when it spreads- most often goes to the bone, liver, lungs or brain.) So-long story made short... I had a brain scan because I was getting flashing lights in my right eye, a bit of double vision, blurred…

You are so welcome! I have Lymphadema and I get my sleeves on- line at this store. (see link below). It's called Lymphadivas. http://store.lymphedivas.com/store/pc/home.asp They sell sleeves that are pretty and gauntlets (gloves) - if your fingers swell. I phone them and ask them for the most inexpensive, "2nd"s ---which…

Also, there are blood tests that you can get to determine whether or not you are in full menopause. If you are, then you can go on Letrozole, however you might need to take a pill to strengthen your bones as well. Those pills also have side effects. In BC, where I live, they seem to be doing a couple of years of Tamoxifen…

Tamoxifen seems to have the tendency to slow your metabolism down and make you gain weight. When I asked my oncologist about that he said "Tamoxifen has no calories...But it certainly makes you feel more tired and does slow you down. " It also made my face round. I look at before and after pictures of myself on Taxomifen…

Hello you. I had that too. I personally noticed that they give the same dosage to a 100 pound person as a 400 pound person -so the drug is indeed very toxic. I couldn't handle the drug myself but had to be on it because apparently you can't take Letrozole (a more effective drug) until you are post menopausal. I read up on…

Hi Rhonda Yes. My oncologist insists on the following: 35 grams of dietary fibre because the estrogen is absorbed and eliminated from the gut. Only 6 tsp of fat a day. Protein of 65 gram a day NO herbal teas because they contain hormones Calcium of 1200 to 1500 a day (2500 mg is the toxicity level) Vitamin D of 1000 IUs a…

A warm hello, Kraftykat You are most welcome to join our group! There are many tips and tricks that you will learn from our group for prevention as we are all trying to avoid recurrence. Hi Fancy Lady! Here is the link for the Pub Med article called "Chemopreventtive Activity of Vitamin E in Breast Cancer" - A focus on y- and 0-Tocopherol from my previous comment. Hey Judith. My surgeon wasn't concerned about the fluid. But there is a Yoga move that's really easy and it drained it all away for me. While watching TV prop a pillow or two under your back when you are lying flat on the floor facing up. Support your head. Let both your arms hang below the pillows on either side of…
