The best way to tell whether something is muscle or fat is using a measuring tape. If you are gaining muscle, the area you are focusing on most should grow larger. If you are gaining fat, you will be larger overall, or in the areas your body tends to store fat, such as the butt and belly. It's a lot harder to gain muscle…

Something I've noticed myself when I started dieting I was hungrier more often than I am now. It takes a while for your stomach to adjust to changes in the time, volume, and type of foods you're eating. Also - not sure if you are being literal, but a "growling" stomach has less to do with being hungry, and more to do with…

From a biological standpoint, the best solution for the female is to cheat on a resourceful mate who is monogomous to her with a biologically superior male. For the male, rampant cheating while "investing" in a monogomous relationship with whatever mates produced the best offspring is the best strategy. Sociologically,…

Yes. If a fitness buff is literally addicted to being fit, then their "fitness" addiction is considered a psychological disease. I doubt you'll find many people who persistently, compulsively perform fitness-based behaviors and have withdrawal symptoms when they are unable to "be fit," but I could see someone with…

Obesity is a disease in the sense that mercury poisoning is a disease. Just like historic "let's put radium/mercury/lead in everything" epidemics of the past, obesity is an epidemic of modern wealthy nations. Manufactured foods (vs natural foods) cost less, have more calories, are more convenient, and are engineered to be…

I have lived in a lot of different places, and while the road laws in different states are mostly the same, the design of the highways/freeways and streets really affects how you should drive them. California highways are madness where you need to get to the far left often long before your exit and the middle lane is the…

I don't personally run marathons, but I know a lot of people who do. Along with the obvious suggestions like getting lots of practice, the major thing to check is to make sure that you are running right. You should be striking near the ball of your feet, not the heel. Striking at the heel will put vibrations up through…

To gain muscle mass, your body needs the protiens, sugars, etc. that it needs to rebuild muscle when it is rebuilding muscle. To lose fat, you need to put your body in a state where it is lacking readily available carbs/sugars and has to make energy by burning fats. It is difficult, but possible to do both. Obviously you…

Your caloric intake look's like it's where it should be and you are running, so it's likely that you are converting fat to muscle. Measure the rest of your body to be sure that you aren't actually losing fat. If your waist or bust aren't being reduced, you should see a doctor as you may have a metabolic disorder.

I'm borderline hypothyroid, so my body is permanently in "starvation mode," but I lose weight. Exercise five days a week, trying to burn about 400-500 cals. If your muscles are aching like crazy the next day, I'd recommend drinking a protein shake for muscle recovery immediately after the workout. Usually about 1/2 serving…
