  • I would plan ahead to have a 'cheat day' on the day I'm celebrating Thanksgiving (or in my case Christmas - I'm in the UK) with my family - trying to keep the mince pies, chocolate etc in moderation for the rest of the holiday season. What this means for me is that for that day I just don't stress how much I'm eating - I…
  • This is my philosophy - and since MFP builds in a 500 calorie deficit I try to just not go over maintenance calories on a 'cheat day' - I look at it as keeping my metabolism high and therefore a necessary part of the process!
  • You can try to stick to things which are a definite portion rather than free-flowing - I'm thinking a piece of chicken or fish rather than a helping of spaghetti bolognaise?
  • I love snacky foods like that, so I have a 200cal each morning snack and afternoon snack factored into my mental calculations :) I aim for breakfast circa 350 cals, lunch 400 cals, dinner 400-600 cals.
  • I'm a girl and I struggle with 1,500! My first week or so on MFP I was set at 'sedentary' and was getting like a 1560 calorie goal and I found that really difficult. Then someone said that the categories are really generous so I shifted up to 'Lightly Active,' now have 1760, and manage to lose fairly consistently and never…
  • UK 14-16. (At the moment) That's a 31ish inch waist and 43ish inch hips. (curvy I know)
  • For me it helps with weight loss because I take it solidly so I never have periods (or have one every like four months) which means I never have the weeks where I don't want to get on my bike or go for a run because UGH BLOOD.
  • Exactly - people saying to only do it once per week because of the fluctuations - that makes no sense! I weigh every morning just to get a general idea, but I only write it down on Mondays (or if I miss that for whatever reason I take Sundays or Tuesdays)
  • I had a customer yesterday who wanted a large Coke and a large Coke Zero. When I said we don't sell Coke Zero any more but could I offer her Diet Coke or Sprite Zero, she just walked off. I was confused more than annoyed.
  • Wait, why would you even have two kinds of carrier bags available?! And why don't people just bag their own shopping like they do here? I don't understand.
  • Yesyesyes. Totally this. Also is there an East Asian language without a word for 'please' or 'thank you'? Trying to work out if there's a good reason for today's tourists' rudeness. 'I want a chicken sandwich and a coke'.
  • You can ask for salt, but I will judge you. Our chips are already salted. (Bear in mind I don't even own salt - I never use it in cooking or at the table) Nothing wrong with having money, I have money too, it's just in a bank account. As well as the potential to piss people off (oh look, the guy I'm serving is holding more…
  • Oh oh also. If you come to the fast food restaurant I work in and you ask for salt to put on your food, I judge you *so* hard. It's already got a ton in! Also I hate people who have a massssive wodge of notes (UK, so it's not like they could be $1 bills) that they rifle through trying to find one to pay with. Yes, I've…
  • I get a free meal every shift at the fast food restaurant I work in. Can't get cheaper than that ;) (To be fair, I prove that it's possible to make relatively healthy choices during that free meal - smaller burger & fruit bag)
  • Are you allowed to take hundred dollar bills? Where I work if we try to take a £50 note (around $80 maybe?) the system refuses and says we have to ask a manager... so we put in that we've been given £49.99 and just give an extra penny in change.
  • Or for hygiene reasons. At the moment I work in fast food and we get a lot of tradespeople with fairly mucky hands. Often they pay by card which means I don't even have to touch their money, which is good for the next half hour of customers' food health!
  • I had to give £6 change entirely in 20p pieces yesterday as I'd run our of everything between that and £10 notes - I'd already called my shift manager over to get me more change, and when she saw the inside of my till and I told her what I'd and to do she burst out laughing.
  • Firstly, 'chemicals' have always existed. Everything is a chemical. You are made up of chemicals. Secondly, the upsurge in cancer rates throughout the 20th century can be put down to the upsurge in life expectancies - quite simply, people didn't live long enough to *get* cancer before.
  • Are you in a town near Bath? The Chronicle's twitter feed mentioned it.
  • Agreed - even after a massive wedding meal that dress will still look elegant and beautiful. A sash in the same colour as your bridesmaids' dresses might look nice if you wanted to cinch it in a little - or you could ask a seamstress to take it in a little just around the upper torso.
  • I pop my popcorn on the stove with a little oil. I like to add a little sugar and cinnamon - nomnomnom
  • No biggie, just it was about the tenth time I'd read that in as many minutes and I cracked slightly...
  • No you don't. You want to weigh 130. Weight is not a verb. (Sorry, pet peeve)
  • I'd love to be at a sub-20 BMI, so that's about 133lbs - which is very light for 5 ft 9. I think 10 stone, or 140 lbs, is slim and lithe for someone with this height, and I'd love to work towards that goal. When I reach about 155, though, I'm going to work more on strength - it may be that that's a good weight to stay at…
  • A type of chicken wing that was first served in Buffalo, NY, I think - it was mentioned upthread. My favourite American invention is a pizza burger :D
  • For me it's a BMI with a 1 in front of it - so 19.9 which for me would be about 133 lbs so basically an UGW - or a clothing size with only one digit, so a UK 8 (which is a US 4-6 I think). I started at about 188 lbs so I was always under 200. Incidentally, that's one of the reasons I think why I put off starting this…
  • As with many others, I only post on FB when I hit milestones - so earlier this week I ran continuously for more than five minutes, which was such a huge achievement for me. Likewise, when I get under 12 stone which I aim to do by the end of this year I maaaay post about it - but that's iffy since one of my best friends is…
  • Just to chip in - the thing about people always having been skinny - they know what it is to eat healthy and move and so on. They don't, however, know what it is to have to make a change.
  • I might have to make myself an egg salad sandwich after reading this - nomnomnom!
  • Politics (for my sins!) and ofc
