We have a lindt advent calendar... just a little bit of chocolate a day does me good!

Some very inspiring people here. I am down 12 kg and a long way to go but my blood pressure is back to normal and, despite hip pain, I have a lot more movement than this time last year. I cook a lot of my own food so control the sugar and fat....wine is my downfall so have joined the December group on here for those of us…

Had sashimi and nigiri last night with a small flask of sake which I made last the entire 2 hour meal as had large glasses of water too. Hubby had another bottle in addition to his first and tried hard to persuade me to have another. I said “let me think about it”... hmmm 300 extra cals and more alcohol. I said no. I think…

Wednesday night hubby home and cooking. Gave in and had red wine with my low far venison chilli. Last night he was out and I did it have any alcohol. Going for sushi tonight and friends coming for the weekend so could be tricky. Sunday planning on no alcohol. The scales are down this week which is encouraging.

Sometimes, when planning my meals, I add a couple of glasses of wine to see how it affects my daily cal count and then take them away or just have one. That puts me in deficit for the weekend when I am likely to have more. It just makes me more aware of what I am consuming. Challenge tonight as hubby is home and I am…

Having an alcohol free night. Get hom3 from work. Hubby asked me if I wanted a drink. I said “no” and he agreed not to have one either. This is progress. A small step but all the same....

You may need to reset to lose 1/2 pound a week if nearer your total weight loss. Also double check your logging. Sometimes you can plateau for 3 weeks or more, particularly if you have not too far to go.

Clockwork Kitten. Suggest you increase your cals by 100 a day for two weeks and see how that goes. Increase in small amounts until you are maintaining. Then cut. Most people, unless they are tiny, will lose weight at 1500 a day and, with exercise you can eat more. If you can get used to this it will by MUCH easier to…

That is so easy to do! I sympathise

Check out the Challenges thread. There is a December one re alcohol - it is not necessarily for those wanting to give up completely… useful though for those of us who want to cut down.

Driving hubby to a Thai meal tomorrow and will not be drinking. Yesterday was a bit naughty as champagne was involved but I had been quite good during the week.

Count me in. I found the November challenge very helpful.....

I rarely have a starter when I eat out. Drink plenty of water with a meal as if helps me to feel full and then have the main which is usually chicken or fish. With curries I eat slowly, stop when full and take the rest home. I do treat myself to a sorbet for dessert sometimes but avoid the cheese! In the morning I will…

Following this as have similar issues. List 22 lbs with a calorie deficit and trying to get more walking and flexibility in.

We have a sousvide machine. My hubby vacuum packs lean pork steaks with jerk spices and the freezes them. When we want one we take it out and sousvide - this also works for chicken and salmon and steaks which we then finish on the pan by quick searing. The result is very moist and delicious, the machine cost £160 but is…

I had one weak Bloody Mary and that was it- hubby opened a bottle of wine but I said no.

Well done for cutting back! And coping with thanksgiving.... onwards :-)

Thanks Fuzzipeg! Since losing 22 lbs I have noted much more movement and am painfree some of the time. I will look into the supplements as some other people have mentioned this... I don't wear flat shoes as this makes me much worse. Gentle heels work best for me.. back to some serious swimming next week I hope. I keep at…

Well still doing my research and came across this. n the anterior hip replacement, an incision is made down the front of the thigh, starting at the pelvic bone. This approach will have 1 or 2 smaller incisions made. This approach is more technically challenging for the surgeon due to the limited view. This approach is only…

Thanks! I did see a physical therapist and am doing the exercises she gave me, also some mild yoga which is helping with flexibility. The thing that upset me the most was, when I said I had lost almost 2 stone, he pointed to himself and pointed out he weighed half my weight! I was flabbergasted at his lack of tact. Imagine…

Hmm - well I did lose the weight but he still wants me to lose more and will review in March so looks like I will have to live with all this until at least July. Will see how it goes!

I need to lose another 6 lbs to get to 100kg. The Consultant said I was still too overweight for the op so reviewing in March. A bit depressed because I have lost almost 2 stone so far but I guess it is all about safety during the op and recovery so will have to suck up this bad news and get on with it... I will get out…

Consultant was very strict! He will only do the posterior approach as says is better for positioning the hip. Because of my relatively young age he wants to do a part-cement one and does not recommend the Anterior approach (sorry Jcummings!) because of possible long-term pain in the thigh. However, I am new on his books…

Hi there! thanks for starting this group. Are we going to start a December one or keep this one going... would love to follow this all through to Christmas at least!
-
well done! hold on to that feeling and, yes, you do sleep better...

for some of us cutting back works better than cutting out.. I actually lost more than 1lb this week and am convinced it was due to cutting back...

Hi there. According to MFP I should be on around 1500 cals a day to lose 1lb a week. I have a bad hip so can't exercise much. The weight loss appears to be working for the moment and I am down 24 lbs in 10 months. My consultant wants me to get to 100kg before I am even considered for an operation. I don't really want to go…
