I work in pounds and kilos :-) 0.5 to 1 kg a week is fine. The only thing I find annoying re MFP is the prediction that if I ear x calories a day I will end up at a certain weight after 5 weeks. For me it does not work like that... good luck and all the best from the UK :-)

Ps on 1400-1600 cals a day... 1200 is impossible for me and probably not very healthy...

Peaches I sympathise as have arthritis in my hip and exercise is very painful... I love managed to lose a stone so far, slow,y but sure,y... I would not recommend necessarily the fat pills my go put me on but she did prescribed difonac sodium for pain as paracetamol just not effective..I need to be able to sleep at night…

Thanks for your kind replies.... as long as I stick to 15 g fat per meal I don't have accidents... it is working! I do gently walking with a stick and swimming but anything energetic like fin kicking too hard etc sets it off. Really hard and I am missing my sailing and diving... hopefully as the weight comes off the pain…

And me please!

I tried 1200 and was continually hungry and grouchy… Upped to 1700-1800 and the weight is starting to come off, albeit slowly! I am starting to do gentle exercise and only log half the MFP suggested calorie burn as I think they way overestimate it… I need to get back to weight training but was put off by the guys at the…

Lost my sister in January and basically gave up on trying to lose weight. Now starting again as feeling slightly better and feel I owe it to myself to stay healthy but it takes time. Don't beat yourself up, you have to do what feels right.

Down 5 pounds from when I started in September. Planning to up my game in October !

I lost a lot of weight over 2.5 years using MFP and was very proud of myself.... then I started HRT and gained a lot of weight in a short space of time. I am now starting again with MFP and am almost at the weight I was when I started the programme first time around! Well done for trying to help your mother... My mother…

Thanks for all your comments and help... I have started gentle walking - although not yet logging it and am slowly starting to lose weight. Taken cal allowance to 1700 to see if that makes a difference.

As the previous poster! It really helps. I am trying hard to cut down on wine and drink generally. Weekends are hard but during the week is easier... I now try and fit in one gin and tonic and no wine into my daily calorie allowance and sometimes skip it entirely. I use the deficit to create an allowance for the weekend.…

I have just bookmarked too. I hate myself right now and struggling. I usually have a good breakfast and a sandwich or homemade salad for lunch. My downfall is wine and good food in the evenings. I am trying to cut back on the wine and don't intend to have any tonight. I am my own worse enemy as it is fairly easy to stick…

if you stick to the weight loss recommendations it will be relatively easy to lose weight. But do weigh food as it is easy to overestimate. Personally I find the MFP calorie allocation for cardio overestimated so I have those calories which seems to be about right.

Thank you so much for this. Very encouraging. And with only 13 Ib to go any weight loss between 0.5 and 1 Lb a week will be great. Good lock with losing the final amount!

I drink tea, with milk, coffee, black tea, water with lime juice in and coconut water and wine!. Coconut water does have some sugar in it but I find it very thirst quenching and great after a gym session. I used to love diet coke but hate the taste now! Agree with the poster who said try water for a few weeks and then…

Hi, i started with resistance machines but then paid a trainer for 3 sessions to get me started on weights… Progress has been slow but steady and I would really recommend it! Some people here have looked at videos on youtube and just learnt themselves, also with great results…. Good luck..

that is amazing, you look completely different. I hope you don't mind but a few questions: how long did this take you to do? what did you set your daily cal rate at How much exercise did you do and what kind? Just curious because you have done so brilliantly you are inspiring the rest of us!

Thanks for that - can't stand non-fat cottage cheese either. yuk! Trying to up chicken, fish and eggs so will see how that goes.

5' 8". Currently on 1800 a day and trying to exercise 2-3 times a week. If I dont get in the exercise I tend to maintain at 1800. If I do exercise I drop about a pound a week. If I want to lose weight in non-exercise weeks I have to cut down to around 1400-1500. working for me so far!

I hate cardio and, because I am in my 50s, feel embarrassed in dance classes. I started lifting and, although still very much a beginner and progressing slowly, am amazed at the differences it is making. My flabby arms are gradually toning up and my legs are so much better! I still do some cardio, but only the stuff I…

Another 50 something here who has been doing weight training. It is lovely when people start commenting on the results and it is a great confidence builder. I am trying to up my protein levels without having to resort to protein powder so work in progress for now. Good luck!

You look fantastic! I am a third of the way through so a long way to go yet. Thanks for posting. You are an inspiration!

Logging everything - even the bad stuff has really helped me. If I go over on one day I cut back over the next two to average out . If cake is on offer and I can fit half a slice into my cal allowance I can do it. I preplan quite a few meals and try to keep some cals back for treats. Good luck with MFP and take it slowly.…

Definitely not! Just watch out for all the sharks out there!

Great pics and what a difference. Really well done :-)

Thanks, aiming to go back tonight. I have not lost much weight over the past month but still eating at 1800 a day so suspect I will count this as a reset and that the scales will start going down again once I start exercising again. I still played the violin for various shows and went to my daytime job so it wasn't all…

That trainer does not sound helpful. Look at crossfit. It is a lot of fun!

Thanks to you all. After nearly a month my back is feeling much better so I am going to do some gentle work this week and see how I get on. Good advice about the Trx too. I will take it easy but have been missing the training!
-
Great post! you are my new hero! I found though that 1800 works for me, even with wine thrown in but, when due to a bad cold and back, I stopped exercising the weight started to creep back up so lesson learnt. 1800 works for me when exercising 3 times a week but, if not, I should cut back a bit! Good luck with your…

Where did you meet you partner? What did you first notice about him/her? What is their best quality you appreciate? Across an orchestra pit! His smile and cheeky sense of humour Loyalty, still has that sense of humour, very intelligent! It took us 5years to get together - we kept meeting up in orchestras...but 26 years…
