  • Well I survived all the friends and family. I had a great time. Did have some wine but was fairly careful and woke up each morning with a clear head. I slept well too. I started to notice things like phrases from hubby - after one visit with relatives where I had one glass of wine we got home and he immediately said “can I…
  • Very similar here! I really enjoyed my steak pie which I would never normally have and some cake. I intend to eat a lot of fish over the next week or to to get back to what I weighed before Christmas!
  • I am away for part of jan so probably won’t post much but thanks for starting a jan thread. By watching you I may be able to keep myself under control. Will try to persuade hubby to go for a dry feb to help me out!
  • Fascinating. I have bookmarked this. Set at a surplus over Christmas Day and Boxing Day and then maintenance to the New Year and will then kickstart phase 2. Phase 1 was to lose 20lbs which I have done. Now want to lose another 20.
  • Well I was naughty Christmas Day and Boxing Day but know I drank less than previous years so minor result. I Managed to wake up hangover free on both days. Next few days will be a challenge as visiting relatives and friends but I will be careful. This is a great thread :-)
  • You have done really well and should feel proud of yourself looking back over the year and where you started...Did you manage to still enjoy food whilst dieting or did you have to be very strict? I would love to know how you did it...
  • Well done! And you will go on to succeed! I am one of those types that get into a lift and see the max weight and number of people in it. I then divide to find the average weight per person in the lift. It works out at 80kg..... so that is my incentive to lose another 20kg to get that far!!.
  • Doing the same... I have logged in Christmas dinner and some wine in advance and allowing myself to go 500 cals over maintenance today.... will scale back a bit on Boxing Day and then back to, relative, normal on 27th. Visiting lots of friends and family and meeting them in pubs so white wine spritzers , fish courses and…
  • How do I bookmark this thread? I need some motivation to carry on with what I started :-)
  • You have every right to feel sad at Christmas. It can be very lonely. Maybe get out and help others on Christmas Day and then you will have done some good and maybe made new friends. I did this as a lonely student many years ago and it helped me. Thinking of you and take care.
  • Wow Gail that is a fantastic achievement..
  • Thanks for that! But of a restless night last night and had to get up and walk around a bit to free up muscles etc and control pain. I am learning a lot about pain management. Holiday coming up so will have to be careful not to undo the work I have done so far but there is a water aerobics class there which is usually fun…
  • Thanks! spin classes would destroy me at the moment but swimming ok. Will try some gentle aqua aerobics and see how that goes too.
  • Thanks everyone - all very encouraging... I have an appt in March and a letter from the consultant confirming that he will put me on the list with a view to a July op. In the meantime I will do my research further and then make some decisions. Aiming to lose that next stone and get back to swimming regularly. Merry…
  • Well done MaryBeth! I resisted alcohol last night when hubby gave me a "cook's slurp" whilst cooking up a risotto and then tried to open a bottle for the meal. It was very hard to say no (which tells me a lot about myself) but I managed it, had a really good night's sleep and feel fine today... I need to hang on to that…
  • OK everyone - here is an update! I have now been on the stuff a year. I have lost 2 stone over 10 months as had 2 months off at maintenance. I agree that, between 1500-1650 cals a day without Orlistat I would probably lose weight anyway. BUT it has reeducated me re the amount of fat I was having and I am making better…
  • I have a similar problem with an over-generous family! I love oatbran and porridge so tend to have a good breakfast and then am tempted to eat less over the family lunch. I have tried not having breakfast and therefore increasing my cal allowance but find that makes me hungry and then I overdo it. Also drink plenty of…
  • So I got on the scales this morning and have put on 1lb. Whilst in France I was averaging 2000 cals a day. I usually aim for 1500-1600 to lose weight slowly. I can live with that after a fantastic weekend. If I can get back to me pre-weekend weight by this weekend I will regard that as a win... Aiming to enjoy Christmas…
  • Just got back from France and took 2 days off the diet and alchohol rule. I had a really nice time - and ate a lot of fish! Wine was Chablis mainly and I factored it into my diet. Haven't dared get on the scales yet but suspect either maintenance or have put on a few 1bs. Back to behaving myself today but it was a lovely…
  • I love the Crosta white Italian bread. It is quite filling so I don’t have too much. I am losing weight.
  • I am spending some time in France so it will be tricky. No point in giving up completely!
  • I grill them sometimes with Teriyaki sauce and serve with plain rice noodles and some steamed brocolli.
  • I love chick pea curries - I also use borlotti beans in chilli con carne but using low in fat venison rather than beef. The result is really nice.
  • Have a lovely birthday. Maybe set MFP to maintenance based on your height, weight etc and then start cutting properly after Christmas. If you get into the habit of logging now it will be easier to keep going once you start cutting the calories. Just my twopence worth!
  • I did have wine last night after an alcohol free night. I didn't have too much but did feel rather headachy so it definitely has an affect. No alcohol tonight and will be careful over the weekend as it is French-themed with friends so could be tricky! This time of year is always hard!I am finding everyone's posts very…
  • And ours is an Anova too.. quite cheap, it was the vacuum machine that was more expensive but has proved useful in other ways.
  • I have tried chicken in it, hubby cooks it at a slightly lower temp than I would like although still safe. Jerk pork and Jerk chicken are two of my favourites. Also a paprika/dried garlic and herb rub works well. I love steak and it turns sirloin steak into a gourmet class meal.. Salmon is also wonderful so I cook up two…
  • Exactly - being judgemental does not help anyone... I had dinner out with a long-standing girlfriend last night. We had a great time. I had steamed red snapper with rice and peas, one glass of Caribbean Pimms, one ginger ale and more than enough calories left for a amall black treacle sponge pudding which I really enjoyed…
