Proteins do make you feel fuller and you don't get the mid-afternoon sugar rush like you would with refined carbs..... to be honest I lost weight with Atkins but didnt feel too well on it and put all the weight back on after.... but it does work for a lot of people and the doc was impressed with my chlorestrol levels!

Hi, don't give up! I have lost weight very slowly - around 1 lb a week but am down to 226 from 250. Took me around 4 months...so not quite 2 stone but almost there! I originally set my target to an unrealistic amount but have now set it to 200 lbs and will then start again from there.... i can't exercise much so this is…

i cant exercise much due to a bad hip. I have a balanced diet around 1500 cals a day and, apart from lowish fat but not drastic, have around 150g potatoes a day or rice equivalent and either oatbran or 2 slices of bread at breakfast time. I am losing weight steadily. I have tried the low-carb diet and it did work but I put…

Wish I was as far along as you! Might be worth setting to lose 0.5 lbs a week as you get closer to your goal, that way not so much of a shock to the system when you come out of the 1200 cal range?
-
I love pineapple and plums so add to oatbran to get the fibre and fruit. Fits in cal allowance so no probs yet
-
Oatbran with home cooked blueberries or plums 2% fat Greek yoghurt - use a lot for marinades too Venison mince - great for chilli dishes and low fat but lots of protein Rye bread - very dense and filling Chicken Potatos Basmati rice Homemade chicken stock for soup bases Pork loin chops - eat half and have other cold with…

Yes! I measureby tsp or tbsp as on Orlistat so have to be very careful not to go over my fat limit of 15g fat per meal.. I probably overestimate to be on the safe side... hoping to come off the pills in the next 6 months but eating lowish fat and 1600 cals a day working so far!
-
I am on a lowish fat diet and around 1600 cals a day. I have potatoes rice and bread in moderation and am losing slowly and steadily. I find that I can sustain this diet. Have tried high fat low carb but it made me feel ill. You have to find what works for you :-)

I am on a lowish fat diet and love Thai Food. Starter, chicken satay but just dipping the chicken into a little sauce! Steamed prawn dim sums are good, prawns in rice paper or summer rolls. Main course - I love Jungle curry which is very hot and cooked without coconut, grilled beef yum (salad) is good. I love mussaman…

I am eating lowish fat but good fats and a reasonable amount of carbs. Averaging 1600-1700 cals a day. Slow loss of 114 kg to 105-106 kg in 4 months which included 5 weeks off diet due to holidays etc. Minimal exercise due to dodgy hip....it can be done! I am the same height as the OP and also older.... my chart is similar…

This! doing interval training does help you burn fat. I tried the recumbent bike but it hurt my bad hip so I prefer the upright bike. Glad it is stationary as I am sure I would fall off a real one! I have noticed my legs getting stronger. I try to up the resistance a bit every time I go...

about 6 weeks to lose 10 pounds. Have lost just over a stone now and the next stone is going slower to shift. !

My GP put me on it... still on it after 2 months and a bit.... 1x disaster, fortunately at home, 1 x near miss in Waitrose when I had to run and leave the shopping at checkout.... I was not binging on pizza or cheese, just misjudged a Chinese where the noodles turned out to be stir fried. Did not take a pill that night but…

What a lovely inspiring story! I think you are fantastic and so honest.... keep going :-)

Venison chilli, venison Thai massaman curry, jerk chicken, sea bass with ginger and black bean sauce, chicken with teriyaki sauce,

I stew rhubarb or plums in a little sugar and make a compote, very easy to do in a glass container in the microwave. I then add it to 2% Greek yoghurt. Works for me !

When I lost weight sucessefully 3 years back I too overestimated cals lost and was frustrated... sadly I gained the weight back and due to a very bad hip cannot exercise... I have lost a stone so far at 1lb a week. Wish it was faster but can't do that unless I starve myself! Good luck and do report back as to how you get…
-
Just a thought, the MFP app may be overestimating the cals lost through exercise. Maybe halve the cal prediction that it gives you as a loss and watch the food intake...after two week see if your weight loss is a little faster :-)

I love eating out with friends on a Friday night and it often involves a curry! I find that dry white wine with soda works well and you can make it last… Also things like chicken biryani and tomato based curries and either cauliflower bhajee and only a small amount of rice. When eating out with my husband I often order two…

This is really encouraging and well done everyone! I have lost 14 lbs but need to drop another 14lbs to get to the 200 lb mark… I already feel a lot better so looking forward to the next drop…
-
that is incredible - you look so much better!

I went straight tothe comments! Have a very bad hip and exercise difficult. Have lost 14 lbs to date by dieting alone but note that I am now walking quicker so may look at gentle exercise too now, but I am proof that diet alone works. That said, exercise will strengthen and make me fitter :-)

try him on venison! Very low fat but lots of protein.. I use it for a venison chilli version... also use 5% fat lean beef for meatballs with tomato sauce..
-
I am eating around 35g fat a day so am having some although the pills get rid of 30% of that...the feeling of helplessness is more to do with pain levels because of the bad hip and cross with myself for getting into this state... however the stone weight loss to date has helped with the pain and further loss will help....…

I take your point and have been adding multi vitamins (recommended) as the pills do not distinguish between good and bad fat..This is what my gp has prescribed in order for me to lose weight to get on a waiting list for THR... I will give it another month and see how it goes....thanks!
-
Thanks! It is hard and I am not used to being so helpless. It is a mental battle as much as a physical one... came off the pills last night to have a fish curry which was delicious but was up half the night! Bodyvobviously did not like the fat onslaught.... back to the pills today. They do a good job of reeducation game me…
-
Useful to know... I can only use body weight and not added weight but might look at using a fitness ball if it doesn't affect the hip alignment.... I never saw this coming, I thought I had a badly strained groin after weight lifting but the X-ray showed a lot of damage :-(
-
Thanks! I forgot to mention that I am doing physio including squats...the NHS did help me with this! I was told I had to lose 3 stone before I could see a Consultant and go in the waiting list for the op.... so one stone down so far... go did say if I lost another stone she would try to get me an earlier appt. there is an…

Try to go for gin and vodka based cocktails. Bloody Mary's are my go to as not so many cals in tomato juice. Watch out for the creamy pina coladas!
