  • Just what I needed. I am in.
  • Thanks for everyones input. If i were buying my first tracker i would be scouring the market to see everything out there as i also get frustrated that my fitbit doesn't sync, but i have a lot of my extended family also use fitbit and we often challenge each other so moving brand i would lose all that. Im not ruling garmin…
  • I have a knee condition and i swim, i go to aqua aerobics, and walk in the water, all of these help me with my fitness, however as someone else has said, ask your PT and if they can't advise, try walking in the water, but listening to your body, if it hurts, stop
  • Thanks for your reply. It has given her things to think about. She tried some of my protein shake but it didnt agree with her, porridge is also currently an issue. Maybe after her chemo has finished in a couple of months she will try again. Thick and creamy soups sound good to her, so we will look into that, as well as the…
  • Thanks so much for your reply. She said thanks, she hadnt thought about fruit with nut butters and loves the sound of apple and peanut butter. She has had issues with the "stringyness" of celery, but might try again. I'll go to the shops and see if I can find some dried fruit and nuts. She will look into the meal…
  • I have my headphones on most of the time at the gym, but I find that I tend to want to leave them off when I am in the weight area. Some days theres only the "big beefy" men in there, they seem so focused on their bicep curls, or other moves with the dumbells, I hate to interrupt. And the gym users that use the bench or…
  • I no longer run (havent in years now) but would jogging in a swimming pool help you at all? Even if it is just to get you started again.
  • Normally I hate gym cardio. My trainer has given me something he calls a triple decker. Row 200m, then 20 kettlebell swings, 200m row, 20 swings and 200 row. Each week/time you completed it successfully add 50m and 5 swings. I am "enjoying" that, as it combines cardio with light weights, and you arent on the machine long…
  • I bit the bullet and bought one. I've not figured out how to get it to monitor my sleep yet, but I'm enjoying this new toy so far. I've only been using it a few days so far, but after the initial set up, it seems to have been easy going. I'll try to update the thread after I've been using it a few weeks
  • I think thats a trap bar, its what I use sometimes for deadlifts. My trainer told me to look at myself in the mirror, and imagine I had a name badge on my chest that I wanted people to see. They cant see it when its pointing down, only when your shoulders are back and not rounded. THAT seems to work for me.
  • Has nobody got one of these? Or has the thread killer struck again
  • I hired a trainer (was supposed to be for a couple of sessions) to show me and correct my form on the lifts. I still go to see him once a week as he varies my accessory lifts.
  • bumpity bump
  • Swimming, and walking/jogging in the water have been good for me when I first started back on the road to fitness. I walk miles each week too.
  • I'm happy to help... even though I dont post too much on the forums, I'm usually around... I can have room for 2 or 3 newbies that have a lot to lose... preferably women "of a certain age" LOL From my profile About Me: Wife of more than 25 years, mother of 4. Working almost full time as well as being a mum has left no time…
  • Mine was less than I thought it would be... especially as I felt so full. The whole day including my nice big helping of Advocaat was just around 2000... (only ate Christmas dinner, then Christmas pudding was for supper) It will be worse today as today is a day for snacking, and thats where I struggle saying no!
  • I started my current gym in October last year... I was unaware that the gym were running a promotion online "1 month = 50% fees" or somthing like that.... I WAS treated like a resolutioner/temp member when I first started... and it stung. It took some members weeks to WANT to talk to me, even though I smiled and tried to…
  • a month ago I couldnt deadlift 100 kg... last monday I hit the 105Kg a month ago I couldnt squat (unweighted) *kitten*-to-grass, yesterday at the fridge trying to find something to make for dinner for the kids, I went straight down without thinking about it... next step is to be able to get down that far with a barbell LOL
  • Ah but its not just the resolutioners that mess up.... there were a small group of young men messing at the gym last week. I really thought one was going to get badly injured when they put both arms and legs on the suspension trainer and got their friends to swing them back and forth. My gym has been getting busier…
  • Huge congrats to you. Its got to take guts to get up there and lift in front of so many people. I'm so pleased for you. Like so many others, it was ladies like you that inspired me to start to lift, so thanks for continuing to inspire!
  • A trainer at the gym was talking to me last night and said that he wished he could get more ladies lifting... too many of them think it turns you into someone with huge muscles and really bulky. He's not sure how to convince them that its not going to happen! Every night I go lifting I walk home from the gym with a grin on…
  • Wow, I would've thought it would burn more that that. My daughter trampolines, and despite being very fit, she is quite worn out after her trampoline class!
  • I do swimming, water jogging, aqua aerobics, I also use the hip abductor/adductor which my trainer told me strengthens the muscles around the knees. I also lift heavy stuff now, all under the trainers guidance (he knows of my knee issues, and plans our sessions accordingly) If the gym has classes, I would advise talking to…
  • I'm still a relative newbie at lifting, but I go for full body workout 3x a week. One of those 3 days is with a trainer and he pushes me as hard as I can go on deads, squats and bench, plus some accessory stuff thrown in, but its always a full body workout. Whether I will eventually need to go upper/lower body splits I…
  • Thanks for your reply. I am in calorie deficit, but I started out very obese, now I'm just overweight, and itching to be "normal" weight. I've been doing some resistance work on the machines right from the start of going to a gym more than 2 years ago... transferring to heavy lifting earlier this year. I'll ask my trainer…
  • Thanks for replying :) I'll look into those two lifts. I already do a little bit with kettlebell swings, I really ought to up the weight tho
  • Thanks for your input! I'll look at all these to supplement what I am doing. I do struggle with OHP, but then I suppose I used to struggle with the three lifts I currently do, so I better practice more.
  • Thanks for your input! I'll look online for some form videos for barbell deadlifts. My trap deadlifts are getting close to 100kgs now, so I think once I hot my personal goal for them, I'll look into moving over/starting with the Olympic bar.
  • Thanks for your input. Sometimes the trainer will have me superset the bench with a dumbell row if I'm not going for a new PB. Is the dumbell bent over row the same thing/work the same muscle groups? OHP I'll do sometimes with him too, but not often. I'll see about adding those in on my lifting without the trainer days.
