Im going to say stop thinking about how much you burn when at the gym. If i was you I would start doing some heavy lifting 3 days a week (a full body routine, or some kind of split, whatever you feel gives you more motivation in the gym). Personally I like the 5x5s that are out there, and do cardio on days that you arent…

Not even if it cures all cancers, hiv and aids, for only one pill a day for the rest of your life? Didn't you know it was the secret chemical that scientists have been trying to hide from you?............. I hate supplement companies

Personally I would eat at maintenance and attempt a recomp or eat at a very small defecit <5% as you stated you wanted to run faster and for athletic reasons, this way you have more chance of building a little extra muscle and reducing body-fat without loosing any performance in the gym. Sick of seeing this, your trainer is a moron who obviously knows nothing about nutrition. post your height/weight/age/sex and how many hours of what exercise you do a week and we can help more.

Im guessing your not a pro body builder, dont sweat the things that make up the small percentage of difference, eat what you want aslong as youve hit your macros and micros. EDIT: only be concerned about the things that make small differences if you are like, going to compete at a pro level or something.

There's still a ton of arguments on if metabolic adaptation even exists, I know there are currently a few studies happening that will prove interesting on this subject. At Op you will find lots of reading around nutrition etc here: http://www.myfitnesspal.com/forums/show/3834-eat-more-to-weigh-less
